"The village looks like a welcoming place to live"....does it though? I mean, does it really? Its just every documentary I see about North Korea makes it seem like it is about as attractive a place to live as Afghanistan or Croydon. Why even have a military to defend these places?? Show me a video of the North Korean riviera...or just somewhere in North Korea that doesn't look like a barren, frozen desert...

Not exactly about North Korea, here's an interesting piece of info: The founder of Hyundai was born to an impoverished family of peasants in what is now North Korea. In 1998, he sent 1001 cows to his hometown in North Korea as a repayment 1000 times over for a cow that he stole in the early 1930s to afford his train ticket to Seoul and escape from poverty.

I watched a documentary series on NK a while back and it was a laugh a minute. Not comedy laugh, but laugh in absolute disbelief. There were so many things they spoke about where you're like, "Are you fucking kidding me?". My favorites were:
    - The full scale war with the USA/South Korea that almost broke out because of a single tree that was being cut on the border
    - NK wanted to co-host the 1988 Olympics with South Korea and even went ahead and built sports facilities BEFORE the Olympic committee gave a verdict on the application. NK gave the committee a tour of the facilities even, and after spending a fortune on these structures, they were ultimately denied their co-host application .
    - NK kidnapped a famous South Korean acting couple (one could say the South Korean version of Brad and Angelina), brought them to North Korea and forced them to act on North Korean shows. They eventually managed to get out after a few years luckily.
    That country is just.....something else

I'm telling you my biggest fear ever is not just living in north Korea but just visiting there. F that. Just the one story alone about that one American student who went and got prison time for a crime he didn't commit and then sent him back home noticeably thinner and all black and blue and in a coma. The north Koreans are a great annoyance to the Americans as their politicians adhere to their own values which differ seriously from the America’s idea of what is right an what is wrong and refuse to accept the American’s politics or government so have to suffer constant criticisms but as they are able to successfully defend themselves from foreign blandishments are constantly the targets of entreaties to defect to the south by America which so far has seen very little success thus is frustrating.
