I was about to give up on soldering my setup then I came across this video, so helpful. Thanks John from Texas
Thanks for this series! It's absolutely perfect for someone like me who is a real beginner but who wants to know what they are doing before messing things up. Cheers!
just finished my tone pot this guys good i was able to correct a bad grounding job just heated the area up and used my saulder sucker then i scribed the pot or scratched it like he said . then i tined my solder and the iron to t he pot at the same time then i put the ground wires back on i only got the pickups left to do and one pot to ground then i am don after i do the volume pot walla capacitor was easier than k thought thanks radio shop
instead of crab claws for tinning the cap, just put the cap in your alligator clip helping hand stand...thats what i do. great video series, subscribed, thx from Las Vegas!
I saw some people put tone capacitor between the wiper and the back of the pot ,instead of what you have shown here..is that okay?
What’s the difference between soldering one leg of the cap to ground and linking the volume and the tone pots with the cap in a Les Paul guitar?
It’s possible it’s just a better grounding option. I had a fender telecaster that had a hissing it unless your hand was on the bridge that was a bad ground issue probably a cold solder joint. I also had a telephone that constantly had static or crackling in it until one day the teck came out and I know the guy he had me run a ground wire right from the phone hook up post outside right over to the ground from my electrical box outside about 25 ft away. For some reason in Pennsylvania there seems to be a high resistance in the ground it could be that there’s a lot of granite or sandstone in it wet I don’t know but they require you to put two grounding rods 6 feet apart to be up to code for your house and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. So I’m just saying it’s probably just an issue like that if you can ground all things together you’re probably better off or maybe it’s a more bulletproof set up. One thing for sure Company‘s been in business a long time both Fender and Gibson are great companies and they wouldn’t be doing it if they didn’t think it was necessary I love Fender I wrote them letters before and I was surprised at the responses that I got back they are super company and have really done a lot for our industry. 90% of the amplifiers out there were stolen from their original design but the thing is they made amps guitar strings you name it they had everything possible to do with this industry. I also give Harley Peavey a lot of respect too, because he did the same thing to compete against Fender and Gibson and he built quality stuff at a decent price that many used to get their garage band out there going etc. we used to stack those old CS 800 power amps for 2400 Watts. We had a party on a 60 acre farm once and the cops come out about three or four times and the last time the guy says I called my wife and I can hear your band over the phone lol then he claimed it was miles away😂 The good old days when we were young lol
I JUST LIKE TO ASK NOT SURE DOES CAP HAVE TO BE SOLDERD A CERTAIN WAY , LIKE IF YOU TURN CAP AROUND VISA VERSA , DOES MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE . LIKE POSTIVE NEGITIVE. OTHER THAN THAT GOOD TUTORIAL.
yes it does. really good question. every cap has a direction and if you put it in🎉 reverse you'll have slightly more hum or signal loss. The way to know the direction is to run your amp on high gain, tube screemer or dist pedal ON, and touch it on the tip and ground of the guitar cable. in one direction you'll hear less hum.
Can u tell the capacitor value for humbuckers and single coil, or if i have one humbuckers or 2 single coil pickup
Hello,Please if you show my capaditor, whatever the condenser is, you will enter the temptation how many volts or how many kilos I have.you make it pass
Are capacitors necessary for pots? Does it matter if you turned the capacitor around & solder it?
The capacitor turns a regular pot into a tone pot. Otherwise, it is the same as a volume pot.
The biggest mistakes I see is people using soldering irons not hot enough and way too much solder. I learned it's best to have a soldering pen with a thermometer adjustment.
Too Funny !! Not in this video a minute in noticing this guy is doesn't know what he's doing !! He scratches the pot for soldering to it !! Poor advice !!!
Absolutely nothing wrong with scratching the pot. Get your head out of your arsehole.
