- In 2008 I met the legendary tabla player Khamis Henkesh in Mohammed Ali Street. Cairo. He kindly invited me to his studio to check out his signature drums.
2012 UPDATE - Sadly Khamis has passed away and will be sorely missed. I would like to express my gratitude for the time he gave me when I met him the one time in Cairo which is documented in this video. A great drummer and hospitable person who greatly influenced many drummers and dancers. Hopefully the business will carry on and his legacy will stiil be present in Mohammed Ali Street. Видеоклипы
RIP HANKESH ,HE WAS THE BEST OF THE BEST !
This question is asked endlessly. The answer is you will pay what the seller thinks they can get from you !! Pure and simple. There are no fixed prices and what you end up paying will depend enormously on where you come from, what you look like and most importantly how you interact and do business.
Ahhhhh! Love Khamis! Thanks for sharing. :)
❤❤
Superbe vidéo.
khamis is the king
I saw many manufacturers of darabukas in Cairo and could only carry a few back on the plane and I choose Mohammed El Arabi's drums as being the best. I do have a Khamis Henkesh Sombaty brought back for me by a friend which is of very good quality.
Hi Gary - Good to hear from you - yep hope to catch up properly at next Drum Camp Re the video - thanks for the kind comments and actually I didn't end up buying one!!
i bet he asked for too much money which make no sense
After all of these years, just noticing he still has a cigarette in his left hand while playing all of this hahaha!
Nice experience... :)))
Hamish is the best darbouka singer ever
