  • Deck of Worlds provides open-ended worldbuilding prompts for creating imagined lands, local lore, and story-driven maps to explore through creative writing and tabletop RPGs.
    I wanted to do a bit of zero-preparation, totally improvised storytelling to show you the alpha deck in action-in this case, with a bit of rainfall ASMR in my garden.
    I meant to show you a single micro-setting, but as often happens with the prompting system, the cues invited questions about how the setting interacts with nearby areas, so I decided to a second related setting on the spot.
    While the alpha deck is a powerful tool the final will be even better, featuring punched-up prompts written by a team of talented international writers from a variety of creative disciplines!

    I came to this channel for the story engine but I'm hooked now to the idea of the deck of worlds!! I'll hopefully buy both soon. Very creative!

    The great thing about this video is not only does it show off what one can do, it drew me into the world and whenever you read out the possibilities I immediately thought of what I imagined, what I would choose and how that would work. Just watching is already fun and helps the creativity :)

      This is why I love having guidelines for collaborative worldbuilding! It taps the brightest of those creative sparks you're getting when you read the prompts with my best ideas and you get a really dynamic, inspired, multi-perspective world as a result!

    Brilliant job Peter! This was really fun to watch and see how the cards flow together to create such amazing story ideas, and I cannot wait to get my decks and put these cards to use myself! And yes, would love to see more videos like this :-)

      @@StoryEngineDeck it's awesome. It's really cool to hear the gears turning in your head also, to get an understanding on what words you're thinking to get the creative process flowing. Like when you described the weeping mountain and how the ice melted. I personally was thinking of the rain season drops off an overhang shaped like a crudely made face.
      Honestly I think a series of these videos would be awesome.
      Maybe Instagram stories, 30 second prompt making... Or weekly RUclips videos showing a quick 10 minute prompt?

      @@GretSeat I definitely want to do more! I think this could be a fun series!

    I love this Mountain that Weeps storyline. I can't wait to get my deck!! Great video. Thanks for making it. I'd love if you all made more videos of other people using the deck so we can see how different people use it or connect their ideas.

      Thank you! The Mountain That Weeps ended up being the show-stealer here, I think!
      And thanks for your suggestion! That's part of why I'm doing the postcard series and making those micro-settings freely available to all backers. I want to show what writers and artists working in a variety of styles chose to do with their prompts as food for thought for people using the deck!

    Nice, is there a sci-fi version as well?

    • @StoryEngineDeck
      @StoryEngineDeck  Год назад +1

      Yes, we have a sci fi expansion you can find on our website!
      Also, the main deck is designed with prompts that aren't genre specific and that can be repurposed for sci fi, it's just that fantasy tends to be the default genre people read them through.
