In California Airbnb owner who were renting short term against the rules and made 4 million in profit. Is being sued for 15 million. Good for them. Greed4what?.
It's obviously raking in money for them, in service jobs, in restaurants, shopping, hotels, cabs, etc. They should redirect their anger because their government has let them down by allowing 10,000 units being lost as a cash grab. Rent has doubled where I live in the past ten years. And this ain't no tourist town. Food prices, heck the cost of everything has skyrocketed. Don't worry Barcelona. Theres some very important things people are ignoring 1. The money that is "coming into the city" is closer into going into the pockets of landlords who benift more from tourist rentals than local people renting, and many of these landlords are not even living in spain, they are foreign buyers from spains economic crash in the 2000, so this money is not even being fully taxed for the benifit of the public 2. The money brought in from tourism should not be the main source of income for a city, so once people can live in the city they were born in, it is then the responsibility of the government to create a stronger economy in the country. The ego of these english people in the comments believing that they are the reason spain is not a 3rd world country is genuinely laughable
When tourists stopped coming, they will be begging for tourists to come back, as restaurants, hotels lose customers and fires employees, airport start to dismiss employees, retail shops lost tourists dollars,,,,,etc. Tourists don't take your resources for free, they pay for them

Tourism isn't really the problem, it's short term rental apartments run amuck. It's a scourge here in the U.S. as well.
