I have another "pro" tip to add for the Brew Group Cleaning Cycle... Urnex has a "Cafiza" coffee cleaner powder in a 20oz container. This is much more economical than buying the Gaggia tablets as the number of doses in the container is a lot and cost per comes out very low. The big caveat is how best to use this powder. If you try adding the powder down the pre-ground coffee chute, the same way you add the tablets, I found it near impossible to do so without having some of it get left on the grinder chute/grounds which would then need to be expelled by wasting a shot or two of fresh grounds to get rid of it. Even if I tried making a funnel out of paper, this proved inconsistent and sometimes still ended up with powder bits on the grinder chute. My tip for using the powder for the brew group cleaning cycle is to simply pull out the brew group and add the powder directly into the grounds area, then replace the unit into the machine and run through the brew group cleaning cycle. Since you've already added the powder/cleaner, just ignore/bypass the prompt to add a cleaning tablet and then proceed through the entire cycle. Once the cycle has completed, again pull out the brew group and rinse in the sink, as often I have found bits of powder remained in the unit even after the cleaning cycle completed. Done. Yes this is a bit more work than using the tablets, but if you wish to clean your brew group often, as recommended, ditch the tablets and get the much cheaper Urnex powde. I bought the Urnex Cafiza 20oz container from Whole Latte Love in the US (no affiliation) per their suggestion when I had called in with some questions regarding machine maintenance and a couple tech issues. I wouldn't suggest straying from the Gaggia descaler solution (for a different maintenance process) which is used to run through the machine's internal pumps and hoses, but since brew group cleaning is just that unit itself, there isn't a concern about the machine' internal part compatibility, etc.
To use with a travel mug you just push the spout in, you don't pull it off. Also just keep a small shot glass under the spot when it is off to catch the rinse water when the machine comes on, you can just toss the water in the sink and set the shot glass aside while you prepare your beverage and put it back when you are done. Most Gaggia units do this, my Titanium did the same.
Great presentation. Better than reading the instructions. Thank you.
Everywhere I have seen you run the cleaning cycle with the tabs through the bypass doser. If you soak the brewgroup in soap, you have to relube it.
