I painted my office/craft room/guest room in a dark, mossy green. I hanged a lot of pictures (gallery wall) in one of the walls, and shelves full of books (that I actually read and didn't buy just for the color of the cover) on another one. The room is sort of vintage-dark academia and I absolutely love it. It's warm, cozy and inviting. At first, my grandkids were saying that they were afraid of going in there, but every time they come, the whole "clan" gathers in that room. They sit cross-legged on the bed and talk and giggle for hours. I love that room!
Love a dark moody vibe. White and beige is soooo boring.
I color drenched my sitting room in burgundy and added moldings all around the walls earlier this year. My husband and I love it so much. Every time I sit in there i get the most relaxed feeling, I never want to leave it. Everyone that comes to visit LOVE it too.
Yesss, love to see it! I'm glad. Burgundy is IN. It's SEXY!! AND SOPHISTICATED TO ME.
I'm so happy to hear about better looking motion sofas.
You can barely even tell they are motion!!
@@KivaBrentunfortunately any recliner is so bad for your hips, ottoman is the way to go.

But, they're really good for blood circulation.
Hopefully they're lighter than older ones lol. - A Furniture Delivery Driver
Posting with a newborn is straight BEAST MODE!! But please take a break, we love you and will be here when you get back from maternity leave ok congrats mamas! ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dark green and navy blue are going to be fire next year.
Blue is my favorite color and it appears in every single room. I must subconsciously like green, too, because it’s a popular color in my home.
I bought matching bookcases for my office. It had to be functional because I love books. I creatively arranged them and sprinkled in decor. When I showed a photo to a few friends they thought it was from a catalog! It was a proud moment for me. 😊
I'm getting into 'blue'. I can't remember the last time I had blue decor. It started with wallpaper. Blue and white portugese 'tile' wallpaper as a backsplash in my kitchen. And the color drifted into the dining area and living room. And a touch in my bedroom. So now I've got some beige, blue and white going on. Really enjoying it :)
I'm in the process of blueing up my place, too. I was flipping through a magazine once and came a across an ad for a very dark navy blue bag and decided my place needs to be blue. Interestingly, my favorite color is red 🤷♀️
@@sugarhigh55 I was into burgundy and orange for well over 15 years.
White walls with splashes of blue in accessories for me. It’s relaxing for me
I think warm white walls are classic. My friend bought the motion sofas that look like classic sofas. He has to tell guests that they recline as they dont appear to do so. He bought them about 7 years ago - very pricey but classic and wil stay in style for years to come.
I enjoy navy accents. My personal accent choice is copper (on the brown side, not new penny color) which goes with navy or brown. Enjoy your viewpoint and your humor. Thanks for wonderful content.
The motion sofa that looks aesthetically pleasing is right up my alley! Comfort and good looks…what more can a ♉️ ask for! I love your videos Kiva! ❤
Also I LOVE a deep moody space. Give me all the burgundy, navy and forest green drenching
I color drenched my siting room burgundy. Put blue wallpaper in my entryway and have Forrest green accents all over my living room. We would get along so well😂
Color drenched my bedroom in deep emerald green. LOVE it!
Motion sofas!! Yes … never thought I would want one either til I sat in a friend’s. I agreed on a non-motion one for now but my next will absolutely be one (that green one is goals ❤)
Congratulations to you and your wife on your bundle of joy! Babies are a blessing!🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!!
Yep, we just moved into our forever home, and it's all white dove, baby! Ceilings, too. The doors and trim are baby fawn, which goes beautifully.
Sounds so pretty!
Thanks for sharing your trim color.
Love white and fawn!!!!!!
So so grateful you said white was coming back. I just bought a new house this summer and had most spaces painted either Greek Villa or Navajo White (which does tend toward yellow and it was freaking me out until I moved my stuff in, thankfully now is back to reading white). I’ve been watching all these design and decor videos and have been kicking myself I didn’t color drench anywhere, but hearing you say white as a backdrop for art gives me a huge sigh of relief because I have an extensive art collection and I honestly want people to see the art I have all over and come away from my house knowing I’m an art lover. Thank you for validating my choice to leave the walls as backdrop to what is truly important to me.
I remember a family member swearing by Navajo white in the early 2000s, glad to hear people are still using it!
White paint comes in so many different hues. It can be fresh, it can be warm. It reflects light. You’re right that art looks good against a white backdrop.
So do other colors.
Counterintuitively, bringing back white paint could bring back more color in general. I’ve had enuf of the japandi stuff in desaturated tones and beige everywhere.
Such a great point!!
Plus white walls can be touched up easier. No trying to color match
I’ve always loved a soft white. It allows my decor and artwork to shine. It feels good.
The mini art will last about as long as a mini snickers bar in my hands..
😂😂😂 Yes, mini mirrors is NO for me.... No, and thank you! 😂
Soo, burgundy, pretty, but in small amounts. I've been so anti-blue for so long, it's gonna take me a bit. This is my 1st video with you. You speak so fast! 😄 I first thought I couldn't keep up! But, it's obviously a reflection of how fast your mind works and how well you know your stuff! Thank you!
I chose for my new construction home white walls. The reason I did was because the house I sold had gray walls. For me, it’s makes it easier to change decor. I don’t have to worry that my paintings won’t work or my couch will clash with the walls.
I just had my family room, living room and up the stairs painted in Swiss Coffee and I LOVE IT!!
I am in love with the idea of the motion sofa.😻😻 I am completely doing one in my family room. It’s all about comfort for me so I’m glad that it’s going to be trending in 2025.Kiva thanks for the tips for 2025😻
The soft blue and white reminds me of the bathroom ascetic from the 90s. 😂
I can’t believe you talked about burgundy 😂 a few months ago, burgundy started speaking to me but I knew it might just be a “nice for now” thing. So to satisfy my craving, I got a burgundy car (lol we were getting a new ride anyway) and I did all my Christmas decor in burgundy, rose gold and “shimmer.” It’s really doing it for me this season!
Book cases are the best! Anyone one comes into my will "know" me by the types of books in the book case. From natural health for my family and pets, "The Joy of Cooking" because I love to EAT, astrology, Feng Shui to the plant encyclopedia or "Weird New Jersey" and butterflys. The books in the bookcase tell a decades long story.
Your predictions seem to be on point with what I’ve been seeing elsewhere, Kiva! I’m always looking at colour trends, and organic modern is still popular. It’s not my taste, but if you look at colours of the year for 2025, Pantone went with Mocha Mousse (to some controversy) and Benjamin Moore went with Cinnamon Slate (which unlike real cinnamon, has whispers of violet), but it’s all warm neutrals. You mentioned burgundy, and Behr’s colour of the year, Rumours, is my favourite of the three. ❤ I was all into Benjamin Moore’s Raspberry Blush and Pantone’s Viva Magenta, and then they both quieted down the following year with Blue Nova and Peach Fuzz, respectively, which I understood but admittedly was slightly disappointed by. You mentioned white as well: I do love white in design … not yellowy cream, just plain, untinted white. It feels so free and crisp!
Joy Trend is absolutely a thing, and it’s not just funky or mini mirrors. I am absolutely for it! My style borrows the saturation of glam, the colours and metallics of Hollywood Regency, the geometry of Memphis Design, and the aesthetic of minimalism. Suffice it to say, it’s a mix of a lot of things, but it’s my mix, and Joy Trend is the licence to do just that!
I understand the appeal of Cottage-core, and I’d probably find it cozy if I were staying in a hotel or guest room that was decorated that way. I don’t think I could ever decorate a room that way, though; those days of living on an isolated prairie homestead are behind me!
Great picks, Kiva!
Painting my bedroom SW Naval with copper accents in the lighting and a paprika plaid rug, it's moody, a bit masculine and so cozy with a faux fur throw. Not in love with a burgundy room, reminds me of the 90's, accents are fine.
I agree!! That red makes me feel so uneasy!!
Kiva can you do a video on small informal dining spaces?
For sure!!
We eat in our kitchen. Don’t know what to do for lighting. Need the overhead for ambient light, but want something nice for dinners. Have a dimmer which helps, but need a fixture.
So glad brown has made a comeback.
Ah Kiva - I had to open this as you had such a funny expression for your opening shot!!!😂❤
I love burgundy! I’ve used it as an accent color for years. I’m super stoked that it’s finally back ~ I need new towels and have had a hard time finding the right color. 😂
I absolutely love burgundy. There is no more of an elegant color than burgundy and my plan is to add pieces of burgundy to my home in the near future ❤
In the NW stark white reads cold so a slightly warmer wall color is my fav. Red in all variations and black have been in every room for 45+ years. My small l-d-k is in beige/ camel neutrals but pillows, throws, accents, table runners, and some art change quarterly. Navy, dark red, and forest green are long time basics. Mainly green in Paisley and Amish quilts in main bedroom. Den/guest/craft room based in navy with the most print and color. Collected ethnic textiles and family art are everywhere and mini mirrors are integrated in both gallery walls (stair landing & l/d rm,). Live long enough and you are ' on trend's! Great video!
Paisley. For those who *know*.
Burgundy was popular in fashion this year too. I bought a burgundy purse. I love the pop of color with all my neutral tones and of course greens. Now I’m going to look for burgundy candles since my house is neutrals with white walls. Thanks for the idea.
Im in my sixties and I've had all of the trending paint colors in my home over the years. I went white a couple of years ago for the first time. I love it!!! So there will be no brown, green, wine colors on my walls...I will use colors in accessories and decor throughout if I want to. ❤😊
Blue truly is a calming color. It's calming to my eyes
Always appreciate your point of view! Thank you, KB! ❤
I painted my entryway Cinnamon Slate because it was the color of the year and I figured, why not? I have regrets. But I'm stuck with it a moment because my partner warned me I wouldn't like it and I argued that I would. 😂
You do know you can buy another can of paint and repaint the entry, right?
@@roslynjones5886they don’t want to repaint it yet because that’s admitting their partner was right!😂
I was very enticed by this color as well and was thinking of painting my new kitchen cabinetry this color😬 Thanks for sharing I will now give it some serious thought! Can you share if it’s just too dark or once you had a whole area painted with the color it comes off differently? Would love some insight.
@MyshelLeAnn it's a beautiful color, and with the right style, I think it would be perfect. It's sort of a chocolatey velvet lavender. It's dark but not too dark. It doesn't feel stifling like the black walls in part of my house do. It's moody and cozy. My problem is I've been collecting street art of years, which are bright and loud and clash horribly with the mid-tone background. I imagine it would be so amazing with an academia or more earthy style. Hope this makes sense.
Grab some large canvas or repaint them from the thrift store, frame wallpaper or do some diy artwork to cover a lot of the burgundy. You get to be right & wrong at the same time
Extremely tired of white and grey. Already went through 2 different blue phases. Going to sell off my blue things. I'm going moody green color double drench in living room. I'll get my burgundy with accents in my bedroom and judiciously ...... in my kitchen !
Great video. Thanks so much. So informative with no filler.
Thanks so much for watching!! 💕
I am a woman of a particular age, and I am redoing my family room and I believe in a comfortable sofa this is why I am getting the motor sofa, comfortable stylish and will last me a lifetime. I am so happy Kiva that you brought the power sofa to the forefront 😻
Yes. Would love a video that discusses the history of design styles and considering that when choosing a style.
That green motion sofa is GORGEOUS! It's a crime it's on available to be delivered in Colorado. Any alternatives???
I just painted my bedroom a pinky red color that is so warm and relaxing. I had a blue room before and it was not my favorite at all. This new color is wonderful and having pops of blue goes very well with it. I have the combo of red and green but it's not Christmas. I really think red is based on the tone you use.
I’ve been thinking my apartment needs a refresh in paint. Walls are beige right now and it feels boring so I’m going with white! 🤗
I love indigo , deep blue, it's so exotic and looks amazing with my bohemian decor!😊
Regarding the trend of small mirrors, I want to emphasize that this is likely just a passing phase, and I’m glad the video mentioned that. These mini mirrors do have their place, though. For example, a small tabletop mirror could work nicely on the edge of your bathtub if you have a surface that extends from the tub to the wall, or as a vanity mirror in smaller spaces like the laundry room or even on a kitchen surface. But let's be real: They're not the most functional! So, it's best not to go overboard with mini mirrors.
If you're thinking about adding bright red to a room, I'd say use it carefully. It works really well in a living room since it’s a space meant to feel alive and energetic. But, keep in mind that bright red can be a bit much for some people, and it’s also a color that can make you feel hungry, so it might not suit every vibe. For your bedroom, though, you’ll want to go for something much more relaxing; soft beige or warm browns will help you wind down and promote a good night's sleep.
If you’re set on red, you might want to try shades like cranberry or burgundy instead of a bright red. These are a bit more refined, and you can use them as accents, like on your dining table with table linens or in your rug. You can keep the walls neutral with white or subtle wallpaper... Something calming to balance out the energy. The key is to let each room's color reflect its purpose: bright and bold for the living room, calm and soothing for the bedroom.
Now, when it comes to furniture in that red living room, you don’t want it to clash with the walls. Stick to neutral tones like beige, light brown, or gray; they’ll balance the red out without competing for attention. Personally, I think browns work especially well. They remind me of the 70s, like the iconic interiors of the Ewing family home on Dallas in the late 70s. Warm, earthy browns just have that comforting, timeless vibe that works beautifully with bold colors. Wood furniture in medium to dark tones like walnut or oak is perfect for this look. If you want a bit of contrast, black or charcoal gray can add a chic, modern touch. And for small pops of color, gold, silver, or even a deep blue or green could work as accents in your cushions or décor. Just keep it grounded with those warm, rich browns to keep the space feeling inviting and balanced.
Yes to original art! And white paint! We just painted our open concept downstairs with SW West Highland White to showcase our art collection!
Yes I always enjoy your videos. I think that vintage handmade furniture is always relevant. Since I'm an artist, I have an art studio, & my home is filled with paintings. Original, & one of a kind gives identity a place, & makes home a calming, comforting space. Thank you for sharing your insights!
Love your esthetic. There’s a DIY gal who’s very talented on RUclips, cottage style, but everything is pitzy! Little this, tiny that and she uses sewing lace to make pitzy bows for things! Lace is for sewing! They even have edges! I dislike chachky, and oerhaps my mild asthma may be respinsible to some degree, but…who dusts all that teeny stuff clutter?! Love large paintings, large mirrors, love our white walls, love our olive green and deep burgundy livingroom rug, two pillow covers in pleated olive green from Amazon, they’re amazing….so…although I appreciate seeing vintage ( I lived it, lol…I’m 75!), it’s not for me. Subscribed, liked. Thank you!
Heyyy first time seeing you with makeup! 💄 I love your lip color❤
Love white paint until it's dirty. Have to keep high touched areas cleaned. Cottage look hard pass. Red and burgundy love the color for clothing, cookware, pillows but not for my walls. Great tips
I inherited my mom’s house with wood paneling which decided to keep up and refinish. Navy Blue will be my color choice for the sofa. Lighter shades of blue and white as accents
I’m with you on the Mini mirrors, what is that about?! Happy about moving furniture that doesn’t look like it belongs in grandmas house. I’m only now getting into gold, so… it’s going to be golden for me.
I love white paint. I had my entire house painted in 2022 in a Sherwin Williams white.
Me too!!
Yep! Benjamin Moore white dove all throughout our home and ceiling! Just one month ago.
What are good white colors
I love white as well, would welcome suggestions for warm whites. I love supporting local artists, had not made the white wall/ art gallery connection, but makes perfect sense.
Also- congratulations on the new baby!😊
Every where I have ever lived has been painted Behr Ultra White for the exact reason Kiva cites. I love my art. 😂 I can’t tell you how many gallons of that paint I have purchased. I now live on an island and have it shipped to me. 🤦🏻♀️
Rather than burgundy, I would choose a deep, moody blue for a powder room. That would blend better with the blues and the bit of green that permeates the ‘trest of my house. If I want a unified, considered feel to my home, I wouldn’t introduce a strong, jarring colour that wasn’t reflected anywhere but that one room.
I don’t have recliners but I’m so over the sectionals! Maybe bringing the traditional couches back🖤🤎
I love the drenching and bold colors trends.
As long as the grey is on its way out (on cars, on clothes and inside homes), I'll be happy.
I love burgundy, I agree- proceed with caution! I have a burgundy couch and accent wall (all other walls black) in my basement living room - and I get a lot of compliments - but not a color in a primary space.
I love my off white interior. I have a lot of art and I also like light airy. We did a total renovation and my off white is a warm white. We did the outside in midnight blue with white trim so the house doesn’t look like it’s going to float away like a cloud.
Do you always talk so fast? I like what you have to say and the examples are great. Thanks for this content. 😊
Congrats to you and your family. 🎉
Thank you!!
I am all in on blue; in 2023 we had to completely repaint our home after flood damage and I had the "opportunity" to choose all new paint colors. I like bold and swapped out my moody eggplant walls in my great room for moody SW Endless Sea (navy-ish) and Sea Salt (greenish neutral for major areas, halllways and some bedrooms). The other main rooms are Mountain Stream (kitichen), Aquitaine (primary bedroom), and Fresh Eucalyptus (bathrooms). I like Burgundy but. probably won't use it in paint - maybe in accent pieces. 🙂Thanks for another fun video and things to think about!
I inherited burgundy leather a Chesterfield couch and chair so have it in my family room. I have compliment it with dark blue and tan with a rug that ties it all together. Trying to figure out what to put on the walls.
Grass cloth in a natural color?
I think one of the wisest things you said was to keep in mind the type of house you’re in when decorating/designing.
Crimson and cream, red and white when done transitionally for 11:03 holidays Christmas Valentines add a touch of brilliance’.
Never thought I'd be drawn to brown, but that dark brown bedroom called to me. I'll have to think about it and throw it on a mood board for a while and see if it sticks.
I have always loved recliners but hated the styles. Years ago, I found a La-z-boy sofa wall recliner that really looks like a couch. I atill have it. I recently bought an electrically controlled rocker recliner, and I was thrilled to find the modern style, newly released model, in the La-z-boy store. I am not into those huge motion sectionals.... they need big rooms! They take up too much space.
Thanks for the video. I don't follow trends. However, I've used red, burgundy, gold, white, black, chrome, glass, wood, etc. over the years I've lived.
I love burgandy with neutrals. It adds spice to liven things up.
YES to the reclining lounge chairs that don't look like traditional ones. I'm saving up for a Nick Scali one as they are not only recliners they also have a flip up headrest. So it's only highbacked when I want it to be and the rest of the time it's a much more attractive low-backed sofa.
Love your 2025 predictions your awesome
I would loooove a video about the history/backstory of some of these design styles! Especially because some of these feel a bit ......... deep south, if you get me...
I have a beautiful leather sofa with electric recliners and I LOVE it , soooo comfortable
I think instead of cottage or modern vintage, I think that it is a little more reminiscent of colonial style with a bit of a twist. I think that it is the color palette of the photos that you shared.
When it comes to silver, I urge everyone not to overdo it. Silver is a calming color, and I recommend incorporating it into designs in its subtle, matte form, rather than using shiny, metallic finishes. This metal should be used thoughtfully, as relying solely on silver in a room can create a cold atmosphere. To soften its industrial feel, pair it with warm tones. I suggest opting for items that feature silver leaf, such as lamps, chairs, and decor, and reserve silver for the bedroom, where it promotes calmness and restful sleep.
In the kitchen, silver can work well, as many appliances like microwaves and refrigerators already have an industrial metallic look. To balance this, introduce warm colors and complementary materials like tiles and wood. In the bathroom, silver alone can feel uninspired, so consider mixing it with warm gold accents, especially since silver already appears in plumbing fixtures like pipes and sinks.
I have Scandinavian style sofas in a deep navy blue! I bought them 3 years ago and decided I was going to buy what I wanted regardless of what was trending at that time. I love them!
I can see myself going for burgundy cushions or throws. Painting an entire room burgundy would be too much for me. Loving your burgundy ornaments.
Even when I was younger I had a thing against white walls. Just can't do it 😂 to me it needs more warmth and color. I'm loving the burgundy trend at the moment so I can buy pieces at a better price ❤
My dining room is navy with cotton whisper wainscoting. My bedroom is navy, as well. My bathroom is fire.
I love the modern victorian style. I think it's going to be popular too, also considering shows like bridgerton being very popular right now influencing people.
Love burgundy, especially deeper, chocolatier, wine-dark burgundy.
Just bought my first new handbag in 25 years cranberry patent faux crocodile with a metal clasp 💅
Hi kiva, my house is all painted in white.
I love decorating with burgundy/blue. Tyvm for the video i enjoyed it so much !!!.
My bedroom has been chocolate brown for 25 years, I think I'm over it. White is an option
My Mom painted everything Navajo White for my entire life, except for her Orange ,Gold and Avocado phase that i was too young to remember 😬😂 early 2000s she finally added light sage 😉😂🥰
Yes, help us figure out our design style.
Love the brown it feels cozy and to me, not on the walls.
Thank you Kiva. This one was really fun!!
I’m not into the blue and for red/ burgundy I’ll stick to Christmas. I am a brown and green and beige girly through and through. I love tropical British colonial interiors. Lots of wood, woven items and tropical plants mixed with some worldly vintage elements.
I find I'm drawn to the same colors in art that I am in my home generally and so I find choosing paint colors to be easy.
In my living room I have white walls with black base & doors. Don’t regret it at all. My bedroom is a deep moody green color that I love so much! I admit that I do have a tv in there however, the way the tv pops off of the green is fantastic. Way better than the greigh/plain white.
Love colors on walls & ceilings. White never went away where I am. Since going into paint stores, as of '18, every time I was in there, another customer was next to me trying to choose a white for their interiors. The back of our basement home theatre is BM Peatmoss, which BM classifies as a brown. It's in the brick-maroon category, but with undertones of grey and violet, keeping it from going too warm. It compliments the hues in the brick fireplace down there, and keeps the fireplace from overtaking the room. I'm photophobic, and blue is the most physically painful color range for me, so I'm very picky of the blues in my house. The master bedroom, which is on the SW corner of the house has walls in BM Pearl River, and ceiling BM Wedding Veil. The master bedroom almost feels like one is inside an igloo, which with all the light and heat that room gets, is soothing. The only other space w/ blue and white combo is the main loo, with BM Vapor on the walls, and BM Blue Bonnet on the ceiling. A secondary bedroom has a really warm white ceiling, but it translates as a muted pale yellow (BM Milkway.) I'm trying to find an earthy turquoise for the basement bathroom ceiling, which I'm going to pair with a soft light brown that has an art deco vibe. The search came to a hault this summer, but will resume this winter.
Our 1960's ranch was an inherently mixed metal space from the get-go. The kitchen & bathroom cabinet hardware was copper, the faucets all chrome, and kitchen metal trim satin stainless. The doorknobs are a soft bronze, except for the chrome knobs in the bathrooms that matched with fixtures in those spaces, and the doorbell is brushed brass. We are going to be updating things in a number or rooms, and have no clue how we are going to metals or mirror situation, but it will have to include storage space, so no basic mirrors attached to a wall. Do want to keep some of the vibes from the original aesthetic, but we shall see.
Just built my home… used sherwin williams greek villa… perfection imo 😘
Just fell in love to the wonderfull paintings of elena kotliarker -brought one in my home- there is my "pop of red" inside - normaky i am not ino red - but her paintings were love at first sight.
Burgundy is my favorite color…. So I’m here for it… and just like that my bedroom is now trendy …
I really am so excited for the moving sofas I hate leather so much ❤❤
How about peel and stick mirrors, because I don’t want a heavy mirror up any more
These are my favorite types of videos.
