Well. Karajan is Karajan. He is really bringing to shine each beautiful and magnificent detail in this majestic composition. Strauss, well, unsurpassed in the 20th century. For me far the greatest of the great composers in the last hundred years.
He is like a huge old bird of prey, flapping its wings and hovering over the orchestra, squeezing its claws, in these pupils there is an evil reflection, that is, a mixture of anger and horror, as Brodsky said. This is the autumn call of the hawk. This is a triumph of will!
So at 36:30 RS chooses to use fast notes in the double bass... that don't work. Why didn't do 2 16gh note triplets, ascending and leave the turn in the middle of this mess out. No one plays it right and I'm left thinking I need to speend 10, 20, 30 grand on audio equipment that will probably not resolve it either. Muffled parts (viola especially) drives me nuts. I think that some rich person out there should donate very hi end equipment to me so I can listen to this, and Mahler. I feel like I'm behind a translucent glass, despite seeing the score, so much is still missing in todays home audio. Besides, who benefits by denying a music lover, their music?
@@EndikaEche Please don't ask peculiar questions. Karajan lied about his Nazi past. This wasn't well known maybe about 10 years ago. But now, in Germany 2024, this is well known. And I think, in Basque for example, this should matter, from my history knowledge, or not?
Thank God for the composer Strauss and the conductor Karajan!
We will never forget Günter Wand and Anton Bruckner.
One of the greatest pieces of music ever written!
*_Inspired by one the most famous philosophers interpretation of the most influental man in history, Zarathustra._*

He was the last great composer in my opinion. Brings a whole new kind of weight to his 4 last songs. The last of a grand tradition.
Thank you, Friedrich Nietzsche.
Fair enough, but Richard Staruss also did a good job hum?
❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉 Giuseppe

Did the camera start shaking at 1:53 ? Like an earthquake? AMAZING........
I guess thats because of very long zoom and no anti-shaking in the old camera haha.
Grazie, Maestro Karajan, per questo Dono! ❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉 Giuseppe Perego Monza 16.2.1962
Fantástico: o romantismo, a estética musical e a filosofia numa só obra.
So romantic, thrilling, rich, complex. I go to impossible places in my mind when I listen to this. Thank you.

A conductor that actually reads the score. Bravo. The opening rhythm of the "ta-da" is played incorrectly most of the time.

Das muss der Sonnenaufgang gewesen sein.
Either this vid is way out of sync with the audio or my sense of timing is FKD.
I was thinking the sa.e thing !!
I prefer his 1974 recording.
Everyone does

Not as good as Karajan's 1973 DG recording, but better than the 1983 digital remake.

No women present in the BPO at least we have moved on. Great music however.

Isn't this a bit fast?
Richard Strauss left Germany because of the Nazis, Karajan stayed and became a poster boy.
Preposterous statement
oof
90 % of the time focusing on the conductor. I couldn't stand it.
Are u sure we looked at the same video🤔
I'm sorry, I can't really appreciate Karajan. What can I say..., he was a Nazi and lied about it. That's a fact.
You lived at that time ? What did you do against the nazies ?
@@EndikaEche 😅sorry, but I didn't get what you mean. Just use Google or Wikipedia if you want to know. And if not..., why asking?
