Great Content! I just found out from watching the Kanye Netflix doc that No id showed Kanye the chipmunk sound. He was also the one who showed him how to produce
ayyy thank you very much, this one is a lot older so I feel like the older ones arent as good as the videos now but im glad youre still enjoying them! That has gave me a bit of a boost in confidence about the older videos so thanks my friend✌️
The scream in Fire is from the ORIGINAL song sampled- "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haa!" by Napoleon Romannumeralwhocares; it's the "HA!" at the end of the name being said.
Wow youre absolutely right, I was aware the drums were from that song because thats how its labelled on Whosampled but damn it definitely is the "HA!" at 0:39 too for the vocal one shot. You absolute king💪 thanks for clearing that up, I owe you one my friend!
Never too late to the party my friend! And they are definitely very similar screams, I hear what you’re saying for sure. But if you go to whosampled you can see the drums and scream are actually the same track💪 thanks for the comment!
Compression confidence is a phrase that was told to me by a mix engineer called Stan Kybert, I talk about him briefly in the PS1 reverb video. So can’t take credit for that phrase but the moment he said it I knew I would be saying it for the rest of my life haha Also I think you’re the first person to point out the phrase “compression confidence”, im glad someone else other than me thought it was cool haha thanks Jeff✌️
Amazing stuff as always bro. Love the deep dive on something a lot of people might not even notice in Kanye's stuff! Those vocal one shots add so much. Editing on point too haha. Also love how you use almost all stock Ableton effects and free plugins. Just goes to show how powerful all that stuff is! I'll be sure to check out those sample packs too! Sick stuff!
Thank you bro, means a lot. It’s funny you say about the stock and free plugins too, I only decided recently that I was going to try go down that route to make the videos as accessible as possible. So I’m glad it’s been noticed😂😂 and definitely shot me a link if you do make anything with the pack, I know for a fact you know how to put it to good use haha✌️
Watched just 2 of your vids and I'm already in love with your content Bro! This is good stuff, love what you're doing!! I've always wanted to see good content about the signature sounds of producers I look up to and this video is 🔥!
Thank you very much dude, comments like this are super reassuring that I’m doing the right thing so I really appreciate that! Hopefully more videos you’ll enjoy coming soon my friend✌️
ok this video really shows how the pack is a great addition to the vid, they complement eachother completely. I understand your point even better:) good stuff, good content
That’s cool man thank you. It’s a fresh game of balancing every time I make a new video. Some end up more balanced than others. It’s a fresh challenge every time. Thanks for the comment my friend✌️
Flashing lights is a great song for sure! I hadn’t thought of it in terms of one shot vocals, to me it was more just a normal woman singing and then delay added to “lights” but I guess you’re right, it could be considered that way too, thanks for the comment my friend💪
Great content! +1 meatball sub. Appreciate the time you've put into to planning the video, editing (and humour), and linking (free) plugins! Keep making high qual videos.
Aw dude I could cry with happiness reading this comment haha definitely 99% of people don’t realise how much effort this video stuff is! Like it’s presented as happy good vibes but the behind the scenes planning a video, recording and then editing is a depressing mountain to climb every single time. So literally thank you so much my friend, it means a lot💪
Damn thank you dude! Instant sub type of channel is such a compliment because they are rare for sure😂 love that so much, welcome to the channel my friend💪
great video and great breakdown of Kanye's signature thing, but I would also add that Kanye's signature sound is that his songs dont' sound like the era they're in, while also sounding modern at the time. And that's what Kanye is, he's not only melodic trap, pop, boom-bap,... he IS MUSIC. he IS ART.
Sooooooo true and so well articulated my friend! What you’ve just described would make for a great video essay. Love that honestly! Thanks for the comment and contributing to the Kanye conversation💪
IMPORTANT KNOWLEDGE: Since the advent of multitrack tape in the '50s, we've only heard tape saturation on individual notes of individual tracks (which may be an unexpectedly loud vocal phrase, a piano, a whole drum subgroup in one channel in the late '60s AND the bass guitar!, or even a whole section of an orchestra back in the '50s), NOT across the whole mix of a commercial release! AND if ever tape saturation happened it was often accompanied by valve saturation from the desks prior to solid state. Valve saturation is a more common sound than tape saturation. Tape saturation was utilised for effect in some 2tr mixdowns/premasters, but wouldn't happen at mastering stage. Just at tracking stage. So to emulate it properly, it shouldn't be a uniform effect over some audio, but only kick in on the peaks in level of the audio. And I'd use the distortion of valve saturation instead! 😉🎶🕊️❤️
Looks like you’re checking out all the videos! Love that my friend💪 and yea you make a good point but I’d argue it’s even more complicated than the way you’ve just described it. Unfortunately I couldn’t describe it very well in written form so that might have to be a point of interest for another day on the channel. But either way thanks for sharing this great information!, there’s a lot to be learned from this✌️
@@drewgrit_ Being of the industry & coming from that magnetic tape & analogue desk & pre-amp era & also witnessing the advent of MIDI & digital audio, I'd say there is no argument & it is exactly how I described it & no more "complicated"! I'm 50. 😉
Hahahaha thank you so much my friend! Really glad you thought it was funny. I miss doing more silly stuff like that on my channel, I need to get back into it. Thanks for the reminder💪
Haha thank you so much my friend! I don’t really hear that very often so that’s nice to hear😂 also mad thing is I think I’m losing my voice, I’ve noticed over the past month or so. Here’s to hoping that doesn’t take my voice away lol
Thanks so much man, when I made this video I thought it would get a bit more views because it’s about Kanye but obviously there’s a million vids on Kanye so it’s just a small fish in a big pond haha I was so naive😂 so honestly I really appreciate that you’ve checked it out, legend bro✌️
Go to google, type "kanye west waves credits" move to pictures and you should see it, its on HipHopDX i think thats where i believe i got it from. I would put link here but youtube doesnt like links in comments apparently but hope that helps my friend✌️
Thank you so much dude, I put a lot of effort into this video had high hopes about doing good numbers because it’s on Kanye but it didn’t quite live up to it. So a message like this is amazing and makes me feel like it was still worth every second. I owe you one my friend💪
That is very true, he does do a lot of remaking samples with a producer called Ken Lewis, I believe that’s to do with copyright. It’s complicated but they can still use a sample if it’s not the master recording they are sampling. If that makes sense but yea maybe that is what happened! But also in my head I’m like “that’s just a generic phrase, why would he have to get that cleared?” Who knows tbh but yes great point, thanks for the comment my friend💪
You might be right like yea, I’m just not happy until I can backwards engineer it to sound exactly the same and prove how it’s done😂 I might give what you said a go, or even feel free to try yourself, that’d be cool too dude!
@@drewgrit_ Ill might try and give it a search after, I like Kanye sound and vision but I don't have a formant shifter like Soundtoys Alterboy or Waves, Ohhhh I can take the free trial !

Thank you so much my friend, that’s an amazing compliment🙏 too kind!
I know im pretty late to this party, but i think the scream in "Fire" is from Kendrick Lamar's "U".
