  • This is my in-box of a rare what could have been Tiger I. The H2 was at least mocked up in wood, but I've never seen a manufactured one. This was a direction the Germans were debating going with for Tiger I but never materialized. The subject is an interesting one, but the kit is abysmal. At least compared to other Dragon Tiger kits in the price range.

Hello new to your channel here. I understand why you don't like the kit and I can't agree with it more on those points. But I am wondering how is the kit in terms of putting it together? for example do they fit properly? and are there any seams? Thank you!
This kit is on sale in my local store and I'm seriously considering buying it.

It goes together ok. The base kit is based on the orange box Tiger i used in my Wittmann's Kursk Tiger series. Have a look at part 1 of that, should show you how it goes together. The turret I haven't built so I can't tell you. Decent I assume.

Would you recommend this kit as the 1st armor kit? I mainly build 1/700 ships and 1/72 planes but would like to try this kit. Or would you recommend tamiya armor kits? For me, as long as it fits well and easy to build i am satisfied. Not too concern with the details since this will be my first kit and i wouldnt know much

turret looks like one of the vk 30 and vk36 prototype turrets considered. The previous one had the 2 rear pistol ports. And same huge oversized mantlet.

great review adam as usual.I think the main difference between the panther 75mm and the tiger1 88 was that the 75mm had a higher muzzle velocity than the 88.and you are right about dragon ,their molds aren't making money sitting on the shelf .I hope you are planning to do a kit review on the new dragon #6403 panther f.Its a neat kit, lots of photo-etch ,magic tracks, and then again as with dragon, some kits come with a metal barrel and some don't.The one that I purchased didn't.

+oddball Thanks very much. Is that the Panther F they just rereleased?

+Adam Mann Yes ,that's the one Adam.I bought mine on ebay from a seller in china for $45.00 plus shipping. The shipping was high but the price difference of what they are going for now in the states more than made up for it.last time I looked he had two left and was asking $55.00 for the kit.

+oddball Huh? They re-released a Panther kit that had Magic Tracks in them and did not replace them with awful DS-Tracks? What kind of sorcery is this? Are you sure they haven't taken out more than just the aluminum barrel?

+James V. D. Bosch The only item that was not in the kit was the aluminum barrel in the one that I bought first off ebay. The barrel that came with this kit is slide molded, which is doable.

You should keep it as is. It would look so much different then all the other Tigers you have on the shelf. You could display it between a Tiger and a Panther. Make it look like a Mom, Dad and offspring.

    Hi Adam
I have just purchased the 6683 looking at the tank and wondering would you say this tiger is a early or late tiger, some of the spures have tiger late on them but not sure so what would you say it is?.

    • @AdamMann3D
      @AdamMann3D  4 года назад +1

The H2 kit is based on an early. A later early, but an early. Dish wheels, feifel filters and so on. Some of the sprues say late because Dragon tooled their late first in 2005 and they reuse sprues if they are not needed to be changed.

Glad I chose to spend the money on the Modeller’s Guide to the Tiger Tank book, now, and I certainly shan’t be rushing out to buy one of these Tigers!
Anyone listening, Dragon? We are growing increasingly tired of your ever-more ‘cash-grabbing’ approach. You USED TO BE the ‘Gold Standard’. Now even the bronze is looking decidedly tarnished!! 😟😟

If I was a betting man, I would put money on Dragon losing their best mold makers(?) moving on to Meng, Takom or even Trumpeter. Their quality is a far cry from their kits of 10 years ago.

was not a real thing, well other then a wooden mock up, but it was what henschel tiger was supposed to look like, tiger original specifications called for 75mm squeezbore capable of penetrating 100mm at 1400 distance and 30 ° of impact
what happened was that Wa.Prum6 instructed henschel to do the chassis and rheinmetall for the gun but, since hitler ordered that the 75 squeeze bore was to be used only if there were sufficent stores of tungsten for the ammo, settled for the 75 L70
so how did the tiger got its 88? well essentialy while Rheim.. were thinkering with its turret/gun issues, henschel asked krupp for a modified version of its 88 turret designed for the porsche's tiger (essentially hydraulical instead of electrical power traverse) and they got it
so at this point we have henschel hull starting production with modified krupp's turrets, original plan was to have 100 of such tanks built and then switch to the h2 version, this would have given the time to RH to sort out all the problems, and not waste the effort of krupp, wich by now was tooled up for "mass" production of hydraulic turrets
why then it kept the 88? well improvements in the ammo led to 88 meeting the armor pen requirments and also it was determined that krupp's turret could mount the 88 L71 (origianl plan was that by the end of 1942 tiger could be produced with that weapon)
so essentially the interim solution krupp's 88 was kept over the Rh 75 because improved ammo let it met the requirments, and germany army belived that it was easily upgunnable to a much better gun should the need rise without significant retooling, and so by mid july 42 the Rh turret development was dropped

I DML doesn't wake up their company will die which is really sad, one day one of the best kits on the market and the next just a lazy cash grab.
