  • Meet Britain's smartest teenager, who is aiming to complete 28 A levels - after getting 34 A*s in her GCSEs.
Mahnoor Cheema, 16, has already completed four A levels in just two months.
And she's hoping to study for at least 28 in total - which she believes would be a record.

28 A levels is an outrageous ambition for this young prodigy, but it’s also a bit disturbing. Does she take some time out to enjoy just being a teenager? That study schedule is absolutely ridiculous. She could qualify 8 or 9 students for a Russell group University entry, all by herself. It’s one thing to learn stuff about for fun, but all this talent could benefit others like those less fortunate who could do with a mentor and boost of her mature and shining self confidence. It’s one thing to tell folks how *different* and how clever she is, and another thing entirely to reach out and make a genuine *difference* with her extraordinary talent and help those in need. Draping herself in degrees and academic honour in medicine and Neuroscience research is a great ambition, but not needed to begin that journey, the needy would appreciate that support right now 🙏🏽

I wanna say good for her, but even having 4 rather than 3 A levels doesn't provide an advantage, some unis even viewing it less favourably.
Like I don't get the rational from an applying to uni standpoint, why not just quickly (for her) do 3 - 5 , and just start undergrad and degree level content that would be far more challenging which is seemingly what she is seeking through this.

One of my contemporaries in school became a Chemist and then an Academic ( Professor ) of Chemistry at ( I think ) the University of Glasgow. The last time Isaw him was at the Volunteer Arms in Barton on Humber, North Lincolnshire and I naturally asked him how he was doing. "Very well" was his reply. He was contemplating job offers in the US but eventually decided to remain in the UK. He also told me that he was going to spend his spare time completing his education by reading the Arts. This lass is able to do both at the same time.

Very true, I doubt her interview abilities. You need to be emotionally intelligent, not just inquisitive and high IQ. Doctors need to be able to interact with their patients and be empathetic, not just sympathetic. Her aims are Oxford, Harvard, mit, etc. Big names + med, however it seems like she is chasing titles. Med in the UK is the same everywhere, the NHS could not care less about what uni you went to for med, it's literally one of the only courses in the UK where all the unis relatively sit on the same line and it really depends on how you learn (early clinical exposure, pbl, etc). If you wanna do med you're better of smashing the bmat (well it's been scrapped) so smashing the ucat and interview, GCSEs and a levels are only part of a checklist, they aren't a deciding factor and honestly many unis don't care beyond the first 3 a levels. Plus where will she fit her volunteering, EC's (research, books, fostering a genuine interest for her subject, which has already been finalised as med so soon), unis will see through this. Title chasers vs people with a genuine interest. I just do not understand the point apart from recognition from other people. Perhaps it may help in American applications due to loads of APs being beneficial. However, there is literally no point, why not do 4 a levels, smash out 4A*s and dedicate time into searching for what you *actually* want to do. Then dedicate time to your ps (so EC's, etc) and smash the entrance exams. That would guarantee a spot at the top unis if her aim aligns with that. Honestly what she's currently doing is long winded, success rate is questionable and honestly overall silly.
