- Get ahead of 99% of students in sixth form/collage within the first 3 weeks of sixth form.
You know how to choose your A level options, you can do this. I wish i knew this before sixth form started. Starting year 12 was so scary but trust me you can do it.
The UK Education System can be a confusing one to traverse but its doable, don't be afraid to ask questions to teachers or advisors etc, this way you can get your head start in sixth form.
Feel free to ask any questions in the discord.
Insha'Allah we all do good :)

My mum is currently a med student and has worked in their admissions department during her time there. VERY IMPORTANT: all medschools in the UK will NOT value maths at all over any other subject. There is no advantage or even point in doing maths for medicine unless you want to regardless of your degree. Medschools would rather you did a non-stem subject as your third and get an a* than see you scrape a B in maths because you only chose it for medicine. The idea that medschools require or encourage specific third A-levels over others is a complete myth and sadly one common even amongst education professionals. As long as you are doing chem and one other science A-level you are fine!! Do not let anyone gaslight you into thinking maths is important for medicine!
Unis require chem bio and maths or chem bio and physics
@@ammaababio890not all of them
Most unis require Bio and Chem and then another 3rd subject.
It depends on uni requirements.
@@ammaababio890 all unis are slightly different but at their core they require at least two ‘sciences’ one of which being chemistry. Some (not many) unis however will consider maths as a ‘science’ meaning you can have it with chemistry and any other a-level and still be considered. So you are right if you only did chem and no other traditional science sometimes you would need maths but if you go into college aiming to do med, i wouldn’t recommend choosing maths unless it’s something you rlly like because it isn’t ‘preferred’ as many say :)
Bro you just obliterated my will to do fm and I wanted to do it cause i liked it 😭 and to keep my options open for other stuff since I always loved maths
you need bio chem and at least math or another STEM subject for top unis
Im going to watch this on the 14th of June where I finish my exams, hopeing you will help me out for year 12
go for it
Idk. I wouldn't entirely say 'some a-levels are pointless' which you implied. All A-Levels are hard so all unis will take them, unless you're going to Oxford or somewhere high. And when i was year 12 i got C C C in my mocks and when i applied in Year 13 for an offer of A A B they still get me an offer (i am predicted A A B now). I do Law, History, RS and they are all difficult and equally valuable. It's the fact you've acquired a-levels not the actual A-level itself. Obviously do the one a-level you want to do at uni tho
Not necessarily true just cause a uni says they won’t look at the subjects doesn’t mean they won’t look at the subjects
I get what ur saying all alevels r hard but some are much harder then others and unis know this
@@SelfImprovementCheatCode ? That makes no sense what you said. If they say they don't care what a-levels you do, they don't care? Yes of course some A-Levels are harder but my point is no a-level is useless. Lets say i wanted to do Biology at uni i would do bio at a-level and maybe maths and something random or just bio. You don't need to pick all 3 of your a-levels for the course at Uni. My friend literally does RS and is doing physics at a top uni in uk
Guys! I am planning to apply for economics for Cambridge but my A levels are maths , physics , chem and cs. Ik its a slightly weird combo but I got 95 % raw marks in all of my 4 levels for yr12 mocks. Is my weird subject combo a disadvantage for me ?
@@ayaanpatowa87 usually not doing further maths is a disadvantage HOWEVER you do
Physics which is just as hard as further maths
So while you are probably at a slight disadvantage I’m sure that this won’t be as big of an issue due to your combo

It would be great if somebody could give me some tips🙏

id swap one of them for econ caus ur gonna be writing essays 24/7 otherwise
Yo bro i chose bio, chem, maths and econ as I ain't fully sure on whether to go down a finance or medicine route. However i see a lot of people say that further maths is vital for finance in top unis and I was wondering if that's true? Nice video btw, very helpful 👍
eh not really
for econ they really want fm but for finance no
but its better to study econ, if u wanna have both open do maths fm chem bio not maths econ chem bio, econ they care more abt fm then econ at alevel

Would History Psychology and Business be a decent combination if i wanted to go into law?
Id swap buisness for a different essay or non essay subject like econ
maths music and geo for me. cant rlly get more random
weird but fun
I wanna do bio chem and sociology, although a bit random it fits all the dentistry requirements I’ve looked at as that’s what I wanna do. Is that alright?
yeah, just make sure that you get that A* in either bio or chem because that's what unis are looking at rather than your 3rd subject. ofc you should still take sociology seriously as well but just make sure you're prioiritising the other 2 because they ask for A*AA (usually), A* being in either bio or chem and not socio
Yeah go for it
I wanna do medicine so I’m thinking of doing maths chem bio but for my fourth I’m debating between history (I did for GCSEs and am naturally good at and always got 9s in mocks without trying too hard) and psychology (never done but it sounds interesting links with medicine in a way and it’s essay writing which I’m good at English literature and language so I think I’d do fine)
I asked my history teacher who wants me to take it and she said yeah bc I’ll look well rounded and seem like I have a lot of skills but I’m still unsure
if you havent done psychology in gcses it would be hard for u in A lvl, at least initially , however if you are genuinely interested in it and committed to learn it wouldn’t be that bad (im interested in it and picked it for gcses and a level). theres just a lot to cover and case studies to learn which are most of the grade.
keep history
Don’t do maths unless you really want to. Medschools do not value maths at all; this is a complete myth. Way too many people disadvantage themselves doing badly in maths when they didn’t want to do it when they would be better off doing rlly well in a non-stem related a-level. Medschools will still like this especially because it shows interdisciplinary skills.
I chose bio, chem, maths, and eng lit because I want to keep on doing a language while also learning about more mathematical stuff😢😢 is that a good combo?
real ik someone doing that exact combo ur gonna be fine

Good luck man, you can do it
i've picked maths, physics, and chem for a level and was wanting to do further maths too, but school say they need 10 people to run the course? (they've run the course with only 2 people before though so idk what changed?). i don't really know what to do about it other than ask about it again on induction days and see if anything changes :'/
maybe try emailing the head of maths in the school/get in contact with him and try to explain that you really want to do it (at least after the induction day if you still don't get any clear answers). it may be a bit scary to do but honestly there is absolutely no losses for you if you at least try to show passion for the subject. if not (ik easier said than done) but maybe try to attend a different school if you want to do fm THAT much. otherwise, if you still can't do it, universities will take into consideration that fm was not taught in your school if you try to apply to courses that recommed/require fm.

inshallah u do good
start on day 1 yeah u will be ok keep maths man
you can always take both maths and pscyhology at the start, feel it out at the start then drop one of the two. i did a similar thing with pscyhology/philosophy and ethics (in addition to maths/physics) when i went to 6th form a few years back. I dropped psychology halfway through my first year and it allowed me to take further maths (only as level) in my second year, which personally although didn't really matter as a qualification helped me out massively in the long run when it came to doing maths work at a degree level (depends on what you do though, not sure about maths content in pharmacy). I would (from personal experience) try out maths and see how it goes with psychology, i think it is much better dropping a subject halfway through having at least tried it than not taking it at the start and regretting not choosing a subject that you could have potentially liked. hope this is helpful!
would you do anything in the summer to get ready or nah?
AS content of ur hardest subject
As an old fart currently in uni, if I could go back I'd say use summer to think about what steps you wanna do after uni rather than just learn exam content - as long as you're diligent during Y12 you shouldn't need the summer to do well in exams. Think about degrees, apprenticeships, starting supercurriculars, get prepared for the other stuff you'll need to get into uni or into a job other than exams. Grades are very important ofc but you need more than that to succeed - I think focusing on the other stuff will get harder in term so start that now if you wanna do smth.

I chose physics, maths, further maths and computer science because I enjoy them and want to go into engineering (keeping my options broad for now), am I cooked?
nah based combo buyt most drope one of fm or physics in that combo
@SelfImprovementCheatCode In my school, we aren't allowed to drop subjects once we enter the course. Would u recommend me dropping one beforehand? However, the good thing about my school is we cover all of normal maths in year 1 as a full a-level and all of fm in year 2, only if we take fm though.
@@FireAnt745 i would do maths fm cs (slight bias because thats what i do) for computer science most unis want further maths not physics, if u wanna do engineering drop computer science
@@SelfImprovementCheatCode Do u think it's possible to do all 4?
Yes but it’s unrealistic to get 4 A*s in that unless ur insanely smart naturally
Opinions on Sport alevel?
Pretty bad
is politics English biology a bad combination?
Nah
@@SelfImprovementCheatCode ok thank you I was worried cos whenever I say im doing that people look at me like that choice is gonna ruin my life
What kind of extracurriculars would you recommend? I play sport, many instruments etc. But what are some extracurriculars that universities like?
play a sport and an instrument thats all well and good

@SelfImprovementCheatCodeMan I want to become a Software Enginner but I choose a Biology and Chemistry and Maths and English and IT I didn't know I had to choose things like computer science and physics to do it but the problem is I didn't choose it at GCSE level so I can't choose it now so what do you think I can do to get in univeristy with my subjects?
Not true you don’t need computer science gcse for alevel
