Glorious and I are presently anchored at Goleta Anchorage just under the facilities and buildings of UC Santa Barbara. A very protected anchorage and no rolly-ness at all. A much better option.
That's fun... and yeah, once out the gate headed south when I'm on the hook it was 50-50 whether my boat would settle in and not be rocked to death... Clipper Cove!
We do love the calm of a night on the hook at Clipper Cove - our second home! Can’t imagine living on the hook in Santa Barbara anchorage - like a rodeo ride!!
@@TwotheHorizonSailing I was on the hook in that anchorage Sept 2019 for the Ta Ta and it was very smooth the days there. Got out to Smugglers and had one smooth night and one howler and took a beating. Anyway, back in a few weeks and will be out to Clipper for some therapy. Love your videos More please
@@DanaSmith we love to see that you are following along on our adventures! We were so so lucky with our weather while down at the Channel Islands this year, but we’ve heard some crazy tales of the Santa Ana’s blowing through.. definitely not a place to learn how to anchor!
Not a word about Santa Barbara city or waterfront, really great place to spend time... nothing about rounding Points Conception or Arguello, must have been very calm?... nothing about hiking around Morro Bay, and you missed a visit to one of Cal's best cities, San Luis Obispo... no sea stories at all headed up the coast? Is that the same coast I've beat my head against multiple times?
Thanks for the detailed questions, we love hearing from our viewers! Sounds like we could've added more info on each anchorage, hopefully we can remember that for our next cruising adventure. We did learn a lot on this trip, which we detailed to more extent in our blog post: www.twothehorizon.com/post/san-francisco-to-santa-barbara-adventures We were super lucky to have very uneventful passages through Pt. Conception and Arguello (both going South and North on the way back) mainly because we timed the crossings to pass through those areas late at night or early morning. We walked around the little town of Morro Bay briefly, but we mainly stayed there to rest and then continue our way North. As for San Luis Obispo, we will have to make it there on our next trop South, since we've heard nothing but good things. Although we didn't get as much sailing in as we would've liked, we really lucked out with no wind at all, giving us a very un-exciting trip back up the coast - hence the minimal footage of our glassy waters and boring nightwatches. Cheers, thanks for watching!
Awesome! Welcome aboard! We are releasing part 2 of our mast refit tomorrow (it came out for Patrons yesterday) but we also plan to make a more detailed video focusing on our dyneema DIY rigging, since there’s been interest from our viewers. Stay tuned!
Yes, we motored mainly at night, especially when passing point conception. From Morro Bay to Santa Cruz we left around midday and got to Santa Cruz early morning. Morro bay to Santa Cruz was approx 20hrs, 120nm. Santa Barbara to Morro Bay was 19hrs 20min, 111nm.
@@TwotheHorizonSailing how long did it take u guys to go from Santa Cruz to SF ? thanks. overall the whole round trip took how many days? SF--SB--SF is indeed my mid term goal too. thanks for the info !
Santa Cruz -SF is usually around 12-13hrs. We’ve gone directly from SF to the Channel Islands (San Miguel) in 2days almost exactly, but we normally take 2-4days to make the hops back up the coast, stopping in Morro Bay or San Simeon, then Santa Cruz then SF Bay.
Nice video

Good to know, maybe we will try that next time!

Subscribed because of the mention of full synthetic rigging.

Cool trip! What were your sail times from SB to Morro and from Morro to Santa Cruz? Did you motor at night mostly?

What were the dates for your passage north?
It was mid October if I remember correctly
Morro Bay, Full of "Grungy Fishermen". That's a bit mean spirited.
Quite the contrary, I love that Morro Bay is still a fishing town! That's what gives it it's personality and charm.
