The Style:
One guitarist stood out for me in the mid 80's - Alan Murphy. An amazingly talented man whose session work graced many contemporary records. He came to my attention as a hired gun for Go West: an amazing band with killer pop songs, top drawer musicians and a guy on lead guitar who was doing something so different that it demanded attention! Not only could Alan burn, but his vibrato use was just so different and it totally integrated into his sound. Sadly Alan passed away at a terribly young age and as such we only have a short body of work to marvel at.
The Solo:
The solo contains many of the hallmarks of Alan's style. Lots of scoop and dive vibrato techniques, fast runs and interesting melodic and rhythmic devices.
Sad Footnote:
The solo material here was derived from a course produced by the amazingly talented guitar teacher Dave Price. Dave was the same age as me when he sadly passed away after a short fight with cancer. He was a truly gifted guitar player and teacher and his RUclips channel is still a rich source of material to learn from.
