I used to walk around reading meters for work. When I’d forget my daily earbuds I’d swing by a corner store and grab a set of cheap earbuds. After $8 there was a severe drop in quality as the price went up. The longest a pair of cheap headphones lasted was two days.
I like to occasionally remember the day where I bought $14 Reese's pieces earphones at a CVS for giggles and on the walk home it literally broke in my ears. Almost like they exploded or something 10/10 would buy again!
8:22 This is why I use any Good Headphone like JBL or Sony with a $10 Aux Microphone, for some reason those cheap tiny mics work better than Gaming headsets mics.
I always knew this day was coming, Dank trashed the basic Sonys I've been dailying for the last 10 years. My only regret is he did it before I could upgrade, which I've been meaning to ever since he did his headphones beginners guide but money and priorities haven't lined up yet lol
Before you upgrade, also take into account the Moondrop Chu. Phenomenal sound for $20, and arguably better than the KZs Dank recommends (I have the Chus and the KZ ZS10 Pros and I prefer the Chus). Other reviewers, such as Crinacle, have also practically worshipped them.
It's always interesting to see the quality difference between budget price points. Seems that higher price points in this case means more 'aesthetic', but often at the cost of functionality / quality(?)
Manufacturers can get away with it because there's near-0 consumer knowledge on these products (mainstream reviews under 50 bucks are rare, often non-existent), but you can find gems in those price ranges sometimes. KZ, Moondrops and even Sony themselves make some good or great audio gear in those prices, but you have to find them / hear about them.
Those blue sonys were my absolute go to favorites for YEARS before the iphone got rid of the headphone jack. They fit super well for me (I hate the squishy headphones), they're durable enough to go through the wash several times, and they sound decent enough for what I used them for (mostly youtube videos rather than music.) They withstood my abuse for years and for that I give them props.

Edit 2: anyway yeah if I recall, when I was at school there was a known best option for cheap supermarket buds, I do think it was the £10 JVCs well over and above the £25 Sonys. Good to know Sony’s underperformance hasn’t changed lmao
My mom is still using the pair of jvcs from when I discovered them and we all got a pair back in the 2010's, LOL And it's still blowing away every dirty bud she tries to replace it with
I tried to introduce her to modern ChiFi and the $9 TRN that she tried is the genuine best sound she's ever heard in her life! for about a week, and then she's back to slumming the dollar stores because sticking with ChiFi buds is too strange an experience for her
The microphone on the $4 set sounds way better than $20 microphones I bought back in the mid to late 2000s. I remember owning a set of really really cheap grab and go headphones that I actually liked better than some of the more expensive ones that I've heard.
For about the same price as those $43 plastic disasters, you could get a MSI DS502 Gaming Headset, and have a massively better time of it for the money. They're even made to fit on a human head over human ears! The $4 pair of buds was real surprise to me for how okay the mic was.

Dang, I love this stuff, helps me appreciate Australians accent way more, and the laid back and fun content is spot on! Keep on "Exceeding my expectations!"
I used to walk around reading meters for work. When I’d forget my daily earbuds I’d swing by a corner store and grab a set of cheap earbuds.
After $8 there was a severe drop in quality as the price went up.
The longest a pair of cheap headphones lasted was two days.
I have dollar store ones from traveling and forgetting mine over years and still work fine. I give them away.
Two days?! I have cheap headphones from the 90s that still work, heck even plastic speakers.
I like to occasionally remember the day where I bought $14 Reese's pieces earphones at a CVS for giggles and on the walk home it literally broke in my ears. Almost like they exploded or something 10/10 would buy again!
4:58 actually like how they look like that transparent macs from late 90's
8:22 This is why I use any Good Headphone like JBL or Sony with a $10 Aux Microphone, for some reason those cheap tiny mics work better than Gaming headsets mics.
I’m so happy watching him blow up my favorite childhood headphones. I bought a new pair of those Sony’s every two months since I was like 16
Oh my god all I had for like 15 years was $10 Sony buds. They broke every month and my dad would just exchange them lol.
9:38
Ah yes, ENHANCED BASS
I love the mic tests. Excellent vid as usual.
I'm starting to think he comes up with these stories so easily because THEY HAPPENED
Ah, I love heading down to the market and getting me some S tier $4 dollar ear buds!
We have often had the "egg bag" but this is the first "bag egg"
The treble with the heroics made it sound like they weren't plugged in all the way.
The CCA CRA is good too.
@@IAmToastyGhost The Chus are wonderful.
I like the budget earbud style Sony in ears you can get at the supermarket, sound way better just because you can get a good seal on them
@@UnbelievablyBased Guessing you're talking about the MDR-EX15LP
oh yes, new dankpods upload to make me happy and fill the empty hole in my heart
EXCEED stocks after this video: 📈📈📈
That is a true gamer mic. This is what that kid that shouts at you in lobbies has
Those blue sonys were my absolute go to favorites for YEARS before the iphone got rid of the headphone jack. They fit super well for me (I hate the squishy headphones), they're durable enough to go through the wash several times, and they sound decent enough for what I used them for (mostly youtube videos rather than music.) They withstood my abuse for years and for that I give them props.
Same. They were my basic earphones if I couldn’t get a pair or sennheiser Mx365s.
I know it’s a good day when I see a dankpods upload within the first minute
Nothing gives me more joy than hearing an Aussie dude destroy the living hell out of earphones😂
Oi mates, we've upgraded from a lowly egg bag to the mighty egg with the 4 buckaroo exceeds mates
The Sonic B makes it back to the show! I remember those buds with no maganets from the Cashies Special.
What i've learned from this video is that the difference in audio for headphones under 100$ mostly depends on how they fit.
And open back / closed back headphones can give you better, wider sound vs closed back bigger thumpier base
Dankpods seems like the kind of guy to bring food to a supermarket and try to eat every item within 10 seconds regardless of how grotesque and difficult it is just to terrify children on occasion

He's not jerma
Hahah now I see why you edited-out the insertion of the duck into the egg bag…. that ending was hilarious
Edit: oh crap I had totally forgotten “egg bag” wasn’t in my vocabulary before I found you (at like… 10k subs or something? The Australia Day Special had just come out I think..)
Edit 2: anyway yeah if I recall, when I was at school there was a known best option for cheap supermarket buds, I do think it was the £10 JVCs well over and above the £25 Sonys. Good to know Sony’s underperformance hasn’t changed lmao
My mom is still using the pair of jvcs from when I discovered them and we all got a pair back in the 2010's, LOL
And it's still blowing away every dirty bud she tries to replace it with
I tried to introduce her to modern ChiFi and the $9 TRN that she tried is the genuine best sound she's ever heard in her life! for about a week, and then she's back to slumming the dollar stores because sticking with ChiFi buds is too strange an experience for her
"LOOK, IT FITS THE DUCK" - i lost it there
Watching your videos always makes my day and the jokes you make and the crazy stories during the microphone tests always make me laugh! Thanks dank ❤️
6:07 I really wanted him to blow these up
I've had these before and they are horrible XD
On my vast experience of supermarket buds, I was able to tell just by the looks that the XCDs were the best.
Love the headphone/earbud videos
8:15 I know it’s cheap and everything, but I remember when I lived out of one of these as a kid so seeing this actually makes me super giddy
Thank you for blowing up the sony's, I drive them for work so it's one of the few smells from your channel that I can enjoy myself
Dammit Dank, I think this may genuinely be the best and funniest video you've ever released.
It's time for the WWE - Walmart Watered-Down Earbuds!
Damn the Exceeds really here nailing the low budget headphones game
woah, i now know that instant feeling of fear and dread when the earbuds you are using appear in a dankpods video. That was scary.
The microphone on the $4 set sounds way better than $20 microphones I bought back in the mid to late 2000s.
I remember owning a set of really really cheap grab and go headphones that I actually liked better than some of the more expensive ones that I've heard.
I really need to hear this character through a high end crispy microphone

7:22 My mobile has a headphone jack, and it was release in 2021 ! if you like music just don't buy the phones with the apple on the back
Bro my old S10 and s20 don't have headphone jacks
@@johndaly8267 Yeah, this way you buy their galaxy buds, manipulating the people who buy from you is very nasty, as always apple started it

dankpods never fails to make me watch the whole video
For about the same price as those $43 plastic disasters, you could get a MSI DS502 Gaming Headset, and have a massively better time of it for the money. They're even made to fit on a human head over human ears! The $4 pair of buds was real surprise to me for how okay the mic was.
Whats hilarious is i've been using that same model of moki's for a while now and i've been enjoying them too.
