@UChUrmP7XPTJRTMX6_z_guPw Get fucked up this day? LoL. You don't know nor understand how good LaMotta is. He is more known for his chin but LaMotta in reality had far superior skills than most world champions from 154 to 175 today. If we can only make the prime LaMotta fought today's champion from 154 to 175 (yes, including Canelo and GGG), I am willing to bet my house on LaMotta.
Another thing about LaMotta was that he had an incredibly tough, tough career schedule as to WHO he fought. The guy fought top 10 contenders, all time greats, and tough complete fighters throughout like: Sugar Ray Robinson, Jose Basora, California jackie Wilson, Fritzie Zivic, Lloyd Marshall, Bert Lytell, Tommy Bell, Robert Villemain, etc. That type of schedule was among the last of a certain type (when fighters had to fight against many other fighters with craft); the last gasps of the Golden Age.
One of my all time favorite fighters! Definitely underrated defensively in my opinion, yes he did take punishment but he also rolled with a lot of shots. Hopefully this highlight successfully showcases that.
+haNZAgod True. I suppose many people, myself included shouldn't assume that just because fighters like Lamotta can tank some heavy shots means they half to to get to their opponent. The solid chin helped but it was when it was coupled with good defense that it did the trick.
I always thought Lamotta had underrated boxing skills from the reelz I've seen of him. hrs known as the "Bronx bull" n a brawler , but he wasn't, he boxed with pressure.
kevin portillo I thought this. Compare his style to say Hatton who just bawls forward with very little head movement. Lamotta is actually quite cagey and has a low bent over stance perfect for rolling under punches and had a great jab. Firing double, triple jabs often
Man no one gives him credit on his defense and boxing skills. They just label him a brawler, probably because the fights that stand out are brutal wars. Jake Lamotta is one of the all time greats as far as toughness goes and skill. This video is eye opening to any casuals who didn’t know Lamotta’s defensive prowess’s
He was more of a swarmer type of fighter or a volume puncher, he wore you down with body shots to the inside and he had a great jab he was able to score with in the (Saint Valentine's Day Massacre) against Sugar Ray Robinson.
Man my favorite fighter of ALL TIME. Wish I could've met him before he passed. Gotta give props to you for finding various footage bro. Shit is hard to come by
What bothers me most is that I can't seem to find video of the fight where LaMotta defeated Robinson. Everyone makes such a big deal of their last fight, which Robinson won, but it's like no one wants to highlight the time Jake beat him. I sure would love to see that fight.
John Ribner Well it's because that fight took place in 1943. The earliest surviving film of Robinson, is from 1946, and they're really bad quality. The rest of the film either never existed, or was lost in time.
I watched that fight on a cable channel that shows old boxing fights. The quality was not good. The fight was awesome. It was a war. Robinson can't believe he can't knock Jake out.
LaMotta and Robinsons series was like Marquez Pacquiao in the every fight was a banger and arguable who won, the 5th fight was considered a robbery by most observers and the St Valentines Massacre is such a legendary performance for Ray because he dominated same as how Marquez Pac 4 is so legendary for topping off an ATG series
It must've been so nice having no fear of getting punched; knowing you had both the skill to dodge and reduce damage, and the chin to take even the hardest shots anyway. No wonder he could afford to fight like a wild bull.
Said7792 DK fighters of LaMotta s era who made it to the elite level had loads of all around skills the workingman's schedule, coupled with the frequency of difficult matchups made these guys sharp as razors and well versed in the nuances of the science
@@somethingrandom7026 agree. No one should take away the W credit from LaMotta just because he's 15 lbs bigger than Robinson in their rematch. It's not like Robinson is not used to beating other boxers who is as big and/or bigger than LaMotta.
@@ralphdupas6179 Ray threw punches at Jake in the 6th fight and he made Ray miss every punch he had good defense, Jake was also washed up and exhausted bc he lost weight too fast before the fight.
Voted! I like the music! You could see Jake doing just what he said, he was "riding" with the punches. He made these other fighters look like novices or good fighters who grew desperate. They got so focused on trying to hit him, they left themselves open. He laid back and they eventually walked into his trap. He's like the Det. Colombo of boxing!
Now this video has class! Due to LaMotta's ferocious punches, people tend to forget how he rolled with punches. I haven't seen all these fight clips, so could you tell me what fights there were taken from. What's the song btw?
+Benisentertained From memory I believe some of the fights used were Norman Hayes, Sugar Ray Robinson, Bob Murphy, Billy Kilgore, Laurent Dauthuile. Song used is: Moderator - Trouble
Duran's best days were down at Lightweight so I tend to match him up with the best around that weight but it still would have been an excellent fight though I'd have to pick the all time great Middleweight over the all time great 135 lber in that one.
Unlike the De Niro movie Raging Bull , He slipped punches. In the movie they made it seem like he liked to get hit. You Just Can't trust Robert De Niro!!
+haNZAgod Do you think La Motta`s defense getting low underneath Sugar`s punches was the only defense that could work vs Ray while coming forwards? Calzaghe for instance is also a brilliant pressure fighter because he slipped punches so well coming forwards but I feel Robi could have caught Joe with a lot of counter right hands because he didn`t get underneath punches. Robin Reid replied to me on youtube saying Calzaghe had no answer to his counter right hands, but I think other great pressure fighters would have caught Ray a lot more than standing off I think maybe. 11 months ago.
For those of you wondering what defense he is using he is using the old Philly shell the one u see mayweather use is different ...it actually seems like an effective technique
All those vicious wars he was in, and he still lived to almost 100. He was built to endure and survive. One of my favorite boxers of all time.
He'd get fucked up these days though aye, at least back then he was a "good" fighter. lol
Well, party, because he also had a very good defense. Much better than he was given credit for.

RIP Jake LaMotta.
Mike taking all that wisdom in
Yep, and watching films of old fighters in his spare time.
Did he bathe in butter or olive oil, those punches were completely sliding off the Raging Bull himself. Amazing.

Poetry in motion, pure pleasure to watch him being able to dodge and still apply pressure
Awesome video!!! His defense is so underrated!!!!
Hell of a job. Thank you for your efforts. This highlight is very educational. Great song selection as well.
106 fights in 13 years. He fought some big names multiple times. Sugar Ray Robinson,, Fritzie Zivic. He's made technical than most think.
