You definitely hit the nail on the head with this video. It’s great to see you using pvpoke and explaining it. The issue I have is knowing a decent safe swap when building a team 😅 it’s good that you can grab one out of thin air…maybe next video you can expand on finding a decent safe swap for your team using pvpoke.
Great vid! Something I'll add is a neat way to figure out pairings if you have a specific mon in mind you want to use. For example, the swampert-skarmory core is well known, but why was skarmory chosen? Step 1. Look at pvpoke rankings for great league swampert, you'll see it's top 4 biggest threats are Trevenant, Altaria, Scrafty, and Medicham. Step 2. Take those 4 mons and make them into a "team" for great league in the team builder section. Step 3. Look at the potential threats. You'll see Skarmory, wigglytuff, and pidgeot as a top contenders. Skarmory is more flexible, bulkier, and despite air slash being a trash move it's the best pairing for swampert.
Another good use for the matrix tab is "I have a pokemon but I dunno if the IVs are good enough" or "I have a bunch of IV spreads and don't know which one to use for this team or this cup". You can set up a bunch of the same pokemon (with different IVs) against the same chunk of pokes (e.g. Open Greate League, Halloween Cup. etc.) and see how they perform. One anecdote I have from this was that I found out I actually wanted a much higher attack golbat on a recent team because of the matchups I wanted it to win. Rank 1 golbat actually performed a lot worse than even a 15/15/13 golbat against what I wanted it to be good against (covering my other two pokemon in a specific cup). I ended up not having to spend dust and candies getting another Golbat ready. It was very enlightening. It also shows you how little IVs matter for some pokemon.
This was very helpful. I like the idea of thinking critically to make your teams. I was able to make a team that I enjoy using (stunfisk galar, altaria, and croagunk) that I just got a 4/5 win streak. I'll make sure to use the tips in this video in the future when making teams, but thank you for such an informative video!
I think you're definitely the best youtuber for Pokemon Go PvP.. Sadly I deleted my old account and now I'm on new one lvl 33, very limited PvP but managed to get ,to 2400 in 250 battles.. I got very interestined in PvP to be honest but grinding to make good Pokemon is big wall I think.. I'm trying to find strategy and niche and play only that
Great video here but do you have / can you make a video on the basics of team building? I understand PVPoke and what you’re talking about here, but there are some things I still don’t understand like what makes a good safe swap? What are AAB style teams and what other styles are like that? I have other general questions that I still don’t yet understand even though I’ve been doing GBL quite a bit for a decent amount of time now
Not sure but I guess AAB is the grade on pvpoke they didn't include the consistency since it's not a huge factor.. A-coverage A-Bulk B-safety.. just my guess.. just try to check the score card against the meta and also the potential threats you'll be able to create a good team.. try to check this team on great league on pvp poke skarmory medicham and g-fisk I think it has a AAB grade for consistency bulk and safety..
My understanding of it is that it's the grade of how your weak to a particular Pokémon. "A" means that you're strong against it. "B" means that you're weak against it. "C" means that you're neutral against it.
Great vid but I would like to see more on how to read the simulations, like at 18:45 for example. All those little circles & squares can confuse people who’ve never used this function before.
There's a legends on it's.. I the solid colored circle 🔴 means the pokemon dominant win and the outline circle ⭕ is was a close win.. try to check the training it's like you're playing the pvp based on the team you build..
Yeah the safe swap conundrum is the main difference GBL has over traditional Pokémon battling, you can know your checks and counters but alignment is such a strong position with the 1 min switch lock... You can definitely take out A9 with a Return, if it lands it can result in a simultaneous KO, personal experience heh. Sableye OP
Can anyone explain ABB style teams or other style teams. I’m not familiar with the lingo and have yet to find a video that explains the different style teams
An ABB style team is one that typically is double weak to a certain typing or pokemon in the back (the "B's") and then has something in the front (the "A") that covers that weakness. A good example of this would be something like Nidoqueen (A) Scrafty (B) and Umbreon (B). The goal is to swap out aggressively (if nidoqueen loses the lead) into lets say your umbreon to try and draw out the fairy type or other counter that the opponent could have. The opponent swaps into their fairy to counter the umbreon swap because why not? It's locked in their and they win the matchup in a landslide. Your umbreon tries their best but ultimately loses to the fairy type. Nidoqueen comes back in and cleans up the fairy. Now scrafty can run free against two pokemon that are likely weak to it since they had a fairy pokemon to cover that weakness to Scrafty. It is a very aggressive high risk high reward strategy that can be very rewarding if you have a good idea about what the meta is that day. Dan does have some videos from last year covering different team building strategies you could watch for more info.

Yes I do this too and it is really useful to know what to build
thanks for showing the matrix section, that was very cool...

thank you mate... such a great tutorial..
I really enjoy the battle/train feature so you'll be more familiar with your team before using it on the actual game..

PvPoke has a breakpoints section too. I'd like to know more about how to use that.

So Rankings Overall, as I thought.
