I have driven the same 1993 Miata every day for the last 20 years. Three weeks ago I sold it to buy a 2008 Pontiac Solstice GXP with 21K on the odometer. It really is like a Miata with three times the power. The Solstice is a wonderfully balanced machine.
Purchased an 07 5 sp. with 9,200 on it for 12K about 6 years ago. It now has 26K on it. I did the BTune for an increase of 40 ponies, then added the DDMWorks brace package and while it still looks the same those 2 mods had huge returns. Driven hard in the mountains always creates a smile that is hard to hide. One of my best fond moments was sitting in the passenger seat and watching my wife floor it to jump around a log truck hitting 95+ on a 2 lane highway in N. Georgia. That little evil grin was priceless!!!! Question: Why did Pontiac create these type of cars sooner???
@@tedschmitt178 True, In 2001 Bob Lutz returned to GM and sold the idea to Wayne Cherry (VP of design). Bob's idea was turned down by numerous previous companies with numerous excuses. It only took 4 months from starting to make sketches to a running Solstice concept displayed at the North American Auto Show in Detroit! That's American ingenuity! A challenge was issued to every member of the NA design group and the lucky winner was Franz Von Holzhausen. I only know this stuff from other YT videos and "The Pontiac Solstice Book" by Gary Witzenburg which BTW is an awesome book especially for collectors. It would be cool if GM brought back Pontiac to make more cars like the Solstice.
Unless Pontiac could have it’s “Banshee” answer to the corvette that it always wanted, I think they should’ve kept the Solsitce as a conventional Grand Touring roadster/Coupé, and the Fiero as a true rear-mid-engine sports car.
Beautiful car. A shame the original owner requested an automatic. Any man who orders a roadster new from the dealer and checks the option box for an automatic, when he could’ve got a manual, deserves to have his testicles taken away.
I agree. They should sell for more. Especially the GXP models. If this had been a manual transmission car, it would have sold for a tad more but still undervalued cars.
I'm a huge fan of the Miata / MX5 as well. I won't argue. I'll just say that this car is very unique with a limited production. That alone makes it pretty special to me and should to others..
There is simply NOTHING about this car that will ever make it a collectible. It's a mass produced vehicle, it's cramped and the GXP with the turbo does give it additional performance ponies, but, ya gotta remember this is a defunct brand. And MOST GXP's have been ridden hard and put up wet. I was actually looking at these before I bought my Hard Top Convertible Z4. The Z4 far surpasses anything this thing could do by a country mile.
I worked in engineering on this car for GM in past years, and the more time goes by the better looking it gets 🇺🇸
I couldn't agree more. I wasn't enamored when they came out. I preferred the Saturn Sky. Time has changed me...
Indeed... Beautiful car.

Welcome to the small smiling club. Now add the BTune and frame brace kit and prepare to be amazed. Those 2 items add a lot to the car.

@@2wrdr wish they would've made a hard top version with more aerodynamics
Amazing how an S2000 with similar miles goes $35k, while these are about $10k.
Would so love to have one of thee little Pontiacs. Just an excellent 2-seater sports car coming in the twilight years of Pontiac.

Because Bob Lutz wasn’t on the scene sooner.

Such a shame we didn't get this in right hand drive form in the UK under the Vauxhall brand.
I need this
Opel counterpart was simply called the GT (2008)
That's it. Thanks!
Lo quiero!!! Como lo puedo comprar ?
Hmmm I have a blue redline blk top 15700. Miles.
Needs 3 pedals :)
Is this vehicle still available?
Indeed it is! Check out orphancargarage.com

Why are these things selling so cheap

This car might have been made to compete with Miata but it can’t hold a candle to that car.

10 times the car than that of a Miata
I think both vehicles have pluses and minuses. I would choose the stylish 2.4 Solstice, despite the Miata's overall practicality.
Maybe, but the Pontiac is WAY better looking.
@@walterbrob , that’s subjective. I think the Miata is better looking but your entitled to your opinion.

I have to agree. Its never going to be a collectible. Buy one now at about 10 grand and drive and enjoy it.
@@revtimewest Test Drove one and it was so cramped I said NO F'KN WAY.
