I got one of the first ones in 2006. I never had a moments trouble out of, I mean nothing. Thank you to all who worked and took pride in building these cars. You are part of Pontiac's great history. The solstice is one of my favorites. Great little car!
Video of the last car made at GM's Boxwood Road assembly plant in Wilmington, Delaware on Tuesday July 28, 2009. It was a 2009 Pontiac Solstice convertible. I had many employees sign “THE PONTIAC SOLSTICE BOOK” that I donated and later gave to the buyer. The car received many signatures from employees as they built it. Usually in places hidden after assembly, like the trunk lid, or not. The engine/frame area received the most. With the car raised after the front fascia was installed it's beautiful body lines glowed. The hammer was used to adjust the mounting bracket to specs to fit fascia properly. The plant held tours for Solstice and Saturn Sky owners. Now they returned for their last plant visit, now known as the Farewell Tour. They were invited to come in and see the last one being made as it started down final line. Many sat in it. To show their appreciation they handed out free T shirts to the workers. It was a special moment that we'll never forget. I donated the Solstice Die cast model and had employees signed the box it and gave it to the Solstice new owner (a GM employee). I had bought four of these silver Solstice models a month before not knowing what color the last real one would be. The outside tripod group was Quality Department personnel getting ready to re-do a photo shoot around the last car. They removed the seat covers, window sticker and lowered the top to replicate their picture with the first Solstice in that spot. The 2nd time it came down care line the signatures were deemed too much and some were removed. On its 3rd and last time down care line I went under it to capture details before it went out the door for the last time. Finally outside, I rode shotgun with the Bob for its last ride, parking behind four coupes. I watched him shut it down, got out and remarked it was a good run. The next day I happened to see the shipping drivers arrive to get that last Solstice and a coupe. Before getting in one driver is heard saying, “ no need to hurry now”. And they drove off into the shipping lot, the sunset, and our memories. On June 21, 2014 I was blessed to be the guest speaker at the 9TH ANNUAL 2014 NASSM (NORTH AMERICAN SOLSTICE SKY MEET) in Bushkill, PA. where I first showed this video. The special relationship the owners of these cars had with the employees at Wilmington who built them was wonderful. I do own a copy of your Solstice book as well! Fantastic video...thanks so much for sharing it! I am the proud owner of a red 2008 gxp convertible. When I ordered it I told the dealer to option it out with everything offered....so glad I did. It has been garaged and has never been on wet roads or out in the rain....currently has just over 2800 miles on it. I love my Solstice!

This video was posted 7 years ago, and it's still making the rounds on various social medium platforms reminding folks of Pontiacs demise. Luckily, there continues to be Solstice & Sky enthusiasts who drive and maintain these great cars for people to see, and for people to go; What is that?
In Aug 2023, I bought a lightly used 06 with 20K miles which some lady had traded for a new Buick. I bought it sight-unseen, no test drive, no pictures, nothing. The car was originally sold in Massachusetts and was someone’s nice weather toy. It’s now MY nice weather toy.
The base vs. GXP are almost 2 separate cars when viewed from performance. The base looks the part, while the GXP is the part and has even more after a couple cheap mods. Same can be said about the Sky vs. Sky Redline. The Sky is more modern look. I love the looks of the Solstice as it more of an old school roadster look. I might be biased though as there is a black GXP in my garage with the mods. :)
What a shame to see these not being produced.I have wanted one for years now and someday will. Can't beleive no one bought the rights to the solstice/sky,there is a lack of any good looking roadsters in the lower price range. These baby's looked like mini vett's and now all we have is the ugly Miata's......
It's a shame Pontiac was one of the better GM lines I would have got rid of Oldsmobile or Buick before Pontiac really cool you made this video on the last Pontiac Solstice I was impressed with everybody's attitude
Sad to see Pontiac go I've owned 2 a 63 Bonneville convertible the only convertible I've ever owned & 67 Le Mans both where great automobiles & I've owned a couple of Buick's & I now own nothing but Chevrolet's I've always been a GM guy. But I think my days of buying new ones is over last new 1 I bought was 2008 still runs great . I just can't believe there not making Pontiac's any more or Oldsmobile lot of automotive history there.
Thank you for posting this. As part of my newest series, I will be sending people here. This was truly a sad day for not only the plant, but also for the brand.
I live in New Castle where the plant used to be. It’s sad because it’s gone now. I remember when I started in High School they gave a chosen few a tour. It was a wonderful day seeing cars being built. 😔
Here I am in May of 2023 watching this and had to pause it only 1/4 of the way through - the part where the 2 workers attached the trunk lid and someone announces in the background, 'LAST CAR!' Not gonna lie, has me a bit emotional. Not only because I have the 1st year of the Solstice- 2006 - but seeing the end of Pontiac altogether. Pontiac was a very unique brand that came out with very unique vehicles. Non generic, u like today.
I'd like to see Pontiac return as an all electric sporty/sports car division of GM. Reality is electric cars can be really fast and exciting to drive. Anyone who has played with electric motors knows they can rev themselves into oblivion. It's time to have some real fun with electric cars because they will soon be our only cars.
The problem with electric cars is that they don't have enough range to go on a trip, they take 4 hours to charge up the batteries, and they lack sound, soul, and character.
I have a 2007 mean yellow solstice gxp. Love that car. Looking for a yellow Sky redline, because the only thing less practical than a car that has enough trunkspace to hold two footlong sandwiches is having two cars with enough trunkspace to hold two footlong sandwiches (each). Really, I don't see myself ever selling this car. I still get comments and questions about it, the design holds up ten years later looking like a brand new model. Thank you for making this video.
We used to joke at the plant in saying that it has a carpeted fuel tank. I saw many good people diligently assembling the Solstice, Sky and the Opel and Daewoo variants.
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2009 SOLSTICE GXP! IT IS BY NO MEANS SLOW OR "LACKING POWER ! " MY 09 YELLOW GXP IS VERY FAST (OVER 340HP) WITH A FEW MINOR UPGRADES. TO BE ABLE TO OWN SUCH A BEAUTY, I CAN OVERLOOK THE "BAD CRAP" YOU SAID ABOUT THE INTERIOR. IVE OWNED CAMAROS WITH WORSE INTERIORS THAT FELL APART IN A FEW YEARS. COMPARED TO MY 13 TR OLD SOLSTICE GXP!!! I SHOW MY CAR (UP UNTIL THE VIRUS THIS YEAR) WITH MY CAR CLUB IN ILLINOIS, THE "MIS-SHIFTS" AND GOT 5 TROPHIES IN 2018 AND 1 LAST YEAR, (ONLY DID 2 SHOWS!) In Aug 2023, I bought a lightly used 06 with 20K miles which some lady had traded for a new Buick. I bought it sight-unseen, no test drive, no pictures, nothing. The car was originally sold in Massachusetts and was someone’s nice weather toy. It’s now MY nice weather toy.
Love the video, love the kappa platform. I'm the proud owner of a 07 solstice myself.
RIP Jazz
years later i am still wanting to see a Solstice Coupe
A friend of mine has one! Not very many made.
What a shame to see these not being produced.I have wanted one for years now and someday will. Can't beleive no one bought the rights to the solstice/sky,there is a lack of any good looking roadsters in the lower price range. These baby's looked like mini vett's and now all we have is the ugly Miata's......
I also have an 07 gxp love the car nice job people.Ill never sell it
It's a shame Pontiac was one of the better GM lines I would have got rid of Oldsmobile or Buick before Pontiac really cool you made this video on the last Pontiac Solstice I was impressed with everybody's attitude
Me: **Saws Pontiac’s Last Solstice**
Also Me: I’m Gonna Miss You Jazz From Transformers 😭
Yeah
Pontiac still lives 😎
Thank you for posting this. As part of my newest series, I will be sending people here. This was truly a sad day for not only the plant, but also for the brand.
Very cool this video was made. I can't help but feel sad, it's like someone died.
I have a 2006 Pontiac Vibe, yup I know its a Toyota Matrix, love my Vibe, I will always miss Pontiac.
I live in New Castle where the plant used to be. It’s sad because it’s gone now. I remember when I started in High School they gave a chosen few a tour. It was a wonderful day seeing cars being built. 😔
Such a neat video. Glad to see the proud work of these people documented.
This is nice to watch.
2007 GXP owner and absolutely love it, cancelling the Solstice another stupid move by GM.
"Kansas city Montana" 🤣
I have an 08 silver one and it's in great condition. 116k miles on it. Great little eye catcher when im out in it.
Jerry Lee Kersey it’s Toyota engineering. That drive train will easily get 300k plus miles.
Here I am in May of 2023 watching this and had to pause it only 1/4 of the way through - the part where the 2 workers attached the trunk lid and someone announces in the background, 'LAST CAR!'
Not gonna lie, has me a bit emotional.
Not only because I have the 1st year of the Solstice- 2006 - but seeing the end of Pontiac altogether.
Pontiac was a very unique brand that came out with very unique vehicles.
Non generic, u like today.
Can’t believe they are not making it anymore it’s 2018 it’s first time I am looking at it and I m in love with this car
Pontiac Excitement !!
Bought a 2008 base in blazen orange last year. Has 120,000 miles and running great.
I had a 2009, GXP 5 speed turbo. Loaded, Black. Loved that car. Lost job in 2013 had to sell it. Sux.
this is sad to me this many years later
GM SHOULD BRING BACK Oldsmobile and Pontiac!!! The two cars GM built I actually LOVED and GM killed them both!!
Best workers in the world. I retired from there in 2008.
Such a nice car , sad it’s ended but happy I got one
I Love my 2007 GXP Solstice with 56K miles , if it ever dies I am buying another
Does anyone else find it odd they are using a Ford truck at a GM plant?
Probably just an employee vehicle...
It's Kansas City Missouri, not Montana. I believe the plant is actually in Kansas City Kansas just FYI.
My bad. I was rushing around trying to tape this segment.
Makes me wanna cry
No wonder why my 07 gxp has 114k miles and is still running strong :D

Awesome Pontiac That Deserved A LS Motor From The Factory
I SHOW MY CAR (UP UNTIL THE VIRUS THIS YEAR) WITH MY CAR CLUB IN ILLINOIS, THE "MIS-SHIFTS" AND GOT 5 TROPHIES IN 2018 AND 1 LAST YEAR, (ONLY DID 2 SHOWS!) SAY WHAT YOU WANT, IF THEY WERE STILL IN PRODUCTION, ID HAVE A NEW ONE AS WELL!
