Love your POV on your knitting and choices of projects. I've been knitting for over 40 years and I learn something new from every Roxanne Richardson video I watch. She is just a well of fantastic knitting tips and tricks. She's a great blend of traditional and modern techniques.
Hello! Aw thank you so much for watching :) That's awesome that you are still finding something new to learn from her videos! I definitely agree - her channel is such a treasure trove of knitting techniques!
Thank you for your podcast. You are a natural in front of the camera and I am impressed with your knitting projects. I look forward to your next podcast. Thank you.
Girl, you seem like a professional! I never would've thought that you are new at this. I loved watching this video. I will definitely be keeping up with all of your videos as time goes on. I also love the patterns you've picked. They are things I would make for myself, which'll make me want to follow up with you even more.
Aw thank ya so much and I'm so happy to hear that! I am glad that you enjoy these patterns too :) Thanks again for watching and I look forward to making more videos soon!
I'm super impressed by all the research you did going into your socks and the sock surgery you did! Very impressive! When I started making socks I had a few that were off and just cast on new ones instead of fixing them lol
It really was surgery and I am fully aware that it's pretty overkill for socks haha - thought it was at least a good chance to practice a new technique! I was seriously considering just making a new sock too though haha
Thanks for sharing by your knits. Always good to see other peoples knitted projects! Enjoy how as a new knitter you go into depth. This helps other new knitters and loved your grafting hack on your sock…well done! Happy knitting and seasons greetings from Scotland 🏴.
Hello! Thanks so much and I'm glad to hear that :) It's definitely nice to have an outlet to go into detail about my knitting without boring my friends and family to tears haha!
I'm a knitter and. Cocheter and I can always learn something new. I was 7 years old when my mom taught me and my sister. I still can get ideas from other people. Crochet is quicker but I still love to knit too. I love the roll collar myself. Great job on all your projects and your choice of colors fit in at this time of year. Good luck with your youtube channel.
I love to knit socks! And they are super warm! Your socks look great! What I do to have less ends to weave in when I use a different color heel and toe is I join the yarns in a Russian join. When you’re a row away from the color change cut your yarn and join to the next color ( I really dislike weaving in ends!)
I love your podcast. Your knitting is beautiful with great choices of patterns and thoughtful consideration of the fibers you use. I love your enthusiasm with each project. I look forward to your future knitting!!
What a great episode! I love your sweater and how you related the colors to the winter landscape. I appreciated hearing about your process for the sweater and the socks; Roxanne Richardson has so many great videos. And, I love the wall hanging.
I get just as excited about socks. Even though it's small yarn it doesnt take too long and they are so warm. Love your knits especially the mittens! I crochet as well so feel free to share those and any other projects you like. Your thoughts and opinions and decisions proved very entertaining. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks so much! Yes, I am so glad to have discovered the joy of a hand knit sock. I'm glad you liked the mittens! I did crochet some christmas gifts this year, so I hope to share those after the holidays when the recipients have received them :) Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so much for watching! And me too!! She explains techniques so clearly and I love her demos - I feel like she's my youtube knitting teacher haha!
I'm super impressed with all your research into sick knitting - I wish I had gone about it that way. Instead, I learned to knit a dishcloth, made about five of those, then jumped right into vanilla socks! I guess I thought crocheting experience would make it simple (that wasn't the case, if you had any doubt!)
Haha, sometimes the best way to learn is jumping in the deep end! Agreed, I definitely had a huge learning curve going from crochet to knitting - it was a whole different set of fine motor skills that I needed to learn!
I just came across your podcast and really enjoyed watching. I loved hearing about your approach to your project and the research you do. How great it is to have all that knitting knowledge at your fingertips as you learn. I also loved hearing about the craft project you made such a cute, easy decoration! I am looking forward to your next podcast...happy knitting!
I really enjoyed your podcast and went back to watch first one. Yes, I would like to see how you made the Santa hanging. A short tutorial would be appreciated. Looking forward to see what's next on your needles.
Aw thank you so much! Here's a tutorial that's pretty similar to what I did! www.crystalized-designs.com/gnome-wall-hanging-free-crochet-pattern/ Some main differences: I used the half double slip stitch instead of double crochet, I sewed the hanging onto the rod with a cotton cord instead of making a "sleeve." Hope this helps!
wow, so glad i found you. Love the Noro yarn and sweater. also want to knit the Ingrid. thank you for sharing and giving a through, honest assessment of your knits.
I just found your channel and I would like to say that I appreciate your video/sound quality! You are also very interesting to listen to. Quite happy RUclips added you into my “suggested” list!
Aw welcome and thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear - I fiddled for a couple hours before my first episode to work out a decent video/sound setup haha, so I'm really glad to hear that you enjoy it! Thank you for watching :)
I appreciate the detail you gave on matching up your sleeves for the Step by Step sweater. I've wondered how people do that, secretly hoping there was an easier way.... wamp wamp It's funny you didn't originally think you'd like socks. I also didn't get the hype but I've been meaning to try making my first pair of socks soon and have been looking at the Summer Lee video series! Great to hear about your experience with it.
Thank you! Haha I totally thought that matching the sleeves would be easy... turned out, it was a bit fussy and so much splicing so I can see why many people don't bother. But when you want it how you want it...! Yesss go for it, I really enjoyed socks! Let me know how your first socks go!
Just came across you podcast and really enjoyed it. Love how you analyze and research your projects. Your sweater looks amazing. I also am impressed with the quality of your podocast. The sound and visuals were great. Will go and watch your first episode now. Looking forward to more.
Hello and thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it! And that means a lot, I wanted to make sure the sound and visuals are pleasant and relaxing to watch!
You are a natural at this podcast, and I enjoyed all your advice on sock knitting. I have knitted socks before but only done fish lips kiss heel, the gusset heel scares me ! I feel confident after your stories to try it on the next pair I do :)
Hi Brandi! Aw thanks so much :) Yes you should totally try it! I actually just got the fish lips kiss heel pattern recently and am looking forward to trying out that technique too haha. Always exciting to try a new construction, though I'm sure there will be a learning curve!
What a nice podcast. Your Noro sweater is beautiful. I love how the stripes match, especially across the top of the sweater and top of the sleeves. You did such a nice job. I love Noro yarns. Good luck with your podcast. Happy Holidays!
It’s so nice to meet you 😁. Your doing some really fabulous knits. I also love your crocheted Santa. I keep promising myself that I’m going to learn to crochet, but so far I haven’t. I’m trying to teach my 9 yr old granddaughter to chain, then teach herself online (how I taught myself to knit), then she can teach me. I love that idea. I bought an amigurumi as inspiration, so 🤞. But then I’ve had it for 3 yrs. I’m a new subscriber and look forward to following your journey with you. Happy Holidays. 🇨🇦
Hello and nice to meet you as well! Thanks for the kind words :) I actually learned to crochet before knitting, and thought that knitting seemed so intimidating! Maybe the craft that's learned first will always feel easier haha. I love amigurumi too -I've made some as christmas gifts this year and hope to share in the next episode after the recipients have received them!
Hello from Martinez, CA North SF Bay Area East Foothills. Yiqi, I really enjoyed your podcast especially the sock section. I'm learning socks as well watching 'CrazySockLady' tutorial doing magic socks. I'll be to the heel on the 1st sock 2moro. I'm also using contrasting band, heel & toe. My colorway is similiar to your autumn tones. I have had a huge learning curve getting used to fingering weight yarn- band had to be frogged 4 times cuz I kept dropping stitches. Now it's good and I'm seeing progress. Cant wait to knit the mate to this sock. Your Ingrid sweater is absolutely stunning! I can't wait to see it completed and you wearing it! 🦹♀Sheer inspiration!! Look forward to your next episode!!!!! Best, Carrie
Hello Carrie! Yay that's super exciting that you are knitting your first socks! I was the same way - I had to frog my sock cuff a couple times while I was getting used to the fingering yarn and thin needles, but by the time I finished my first sock I was so excited to knit the other one haha. Best of luck with your socks!! And thank you so much for the kind words!
Aw thank you so much! Winter can be a bit of a slog because it can be cold and dark, but I've been trying to notice the beautiful scenes this season brings too!
Omg hiii! I also just started a knitting podcast and currently live in the bay! Wish we met while you were still out here hehe :) MAJOR PROPS on your sock surgery. I love knitting socks so wishing you the best of luck with the Ovis socks
Hello hello! Congrats on starting your podcast too!! That would have been fun to have bay area knitting buddies - though I actually didn't learn to knit until after I moved away haha! And thank you - the sock surgery definitely felt like an ordeal but ultimately was pretty satisfying.
I really enjoyed all your details and your great referencing. I used to live in NOVA Virginia and now in Georgia, where we have no yarn stores. 😢. We travel to Virginia to see family and always looking for LYS along the way. What town is it in or name of your LYS . Look forward to your next one.
Thank you for your video. I also knit and crochet. I would love if you would share how you made the crochet Santa wall hanging. Would love to make for my wall and Christmas presents. You are inspiring me to get over my fear of socks. Maybe this summer. Making a lot of blankets right now for winter. Happy knitting!
Hello and thanks for watching! Here's a tutorial that someone else created for the Santa hanging which is pretty similar to what I did! www.crystalized-designs.com/gnome-wall-hanging-free-crochet-pattern/ A couple differences - the pattern uses double crochet and I used half double slip stitch because I liked the look better. I didn't follow the stitch counts but referred to the tutorial for how to add the chain stitch "scaffold" to weave in the beard. I also sewed the hanging onto a rod, instead of making a "sleeve" like the tutorial does. Hope this helps!!
Hello Yiqi, just watched your first two episodes and subscribed. I am in Montréal, Canada. Love your Noro yarn, the colours look great on you. I think the sleeves are fine the way they are, however if you want to ensure the stripes are an exact match between the sleeves and bodice, the solution might be to add a steek between the underarm and side seam. About the Caper coloured Shibui yarn, I think the Bough beanie by Claire Walls would look great in that yarn 😍 BTW, I have very sensitive skin too, but I have been trying to be more open minded about using merino wool and Alpaca as next to skin options. Just like you, I find mohair to be too rough for me. I look forward to your next podcast, Happy Holidays🎄
Hello Danielle! Thank you so much for watching and subscribing :) Oh cool, I had no idea that steeking can be used to match the sleeves and the bodice, I had only seen it for matching two sides of the bodice for a cardigan or something- thanks for the suggestion on the technique and on the bough beanie too! I am also looking for merino options and would love to hear if you have any favorites! Happy Holidays to you as well!!
@TangerineKnits To be honest, I don't have a lot of experience knitting sweaters, and I have never steeked sweater, but I would imagine that they can be used for any vertical seam. I would definitely research this before doing it, but your sweater is so beautiful as is, I wouldn't bother changing it if I were you. As far as merino is concerned, I don't have suggestions for now, but I did buy some skeins of merino/nylon fingering yarn at my LYS yesterday and it is very soft. There are three skeins of dark blue Artfil Belle, one skein of ochre Fibrelya and one skein of light being Fibrelya. I plan to knit Caitlin Hunter's Talvinen with it. Otherwise, Knit Pick's Simply Wool Worsted is very soft. It is peruvian highland wool, which is a merino cross breed, so this may explain why the sweater I knit last Fall with it sheds like crazy, I am hoping the shedding will slow down over time. Hope this helps. Have a very happy 2023!
@@daniellebissonnette3304 Thank you so much for the detailed reply! I'm glad you found some soft yarn recently :) I just looked up the Talvinen and it looks stunning! Hope you enjoy that project! Happy New Year!
I really loved the sweater you are wearing and the colors are so nice. Also the Santa wall hanging is adorable, I might have to make something like that for next year!!!!
Yiqi, thank you for reply and sending me a link for faux cable knitting. I tried to reply to your comment but it bounced back, so I thought I’d reply here. I could many tutorials by Petite Knits but not this one.
Thanks so much and I'm glad to hear it! For the Santa hanging, what I made was pretty similar to this tutorial www.crystalized-designs.com/gnome-wall-hanging-free-crochet-pattern/ - the main difference looks like the tutorial calls for double crochet for most of it, but I used the half double slip stitch. Otherwise mine just has minor variations :) Hope this helps!
So happy to have found you! I very much enjoyed all of your projects. Funny enough I just ordered a bunch of Arwetta in very similar colors. Would be curious to know where you bought yours, hard to find near me, mine came from Finland!
Thank you! That's so funny - great color choices, if I may say so myself haha! It's also pretty hard to find for me - I got them from an etsy store called Maruma yarns, I believe they're based in Latvia!
Your projects are so beautiful! And your sock knitting experience is so relatable. It's so true. If you're wearing one sock while you're finishing the other one, I see many pairs of socks in your future. :) When you knit them, did you decrease with the gusset back to 66 stitches or to 72? I'm so curious how you find the fit. My son has got some wider feet (they're so cute!), but I have trouble getting fit quite right...
Thank you! Haha yes I am super excited to knit more socks :) I decreased back to 66 stitches! I was concerned at first about the fit but I was trying on as I went and found the 66 stitches to be quite comfortable for me so I went with it
I am working on the Ingrid sweater as well, but struggled with the “X” Left single cable & Right single cable...i think that’s what they are called...but finally figured out how to make them (now that I put the project down for this month as I’ve been gift knitting - I may be challenged to remember what I did!! 😂) But I was wondering if you used a video tutorial for that stitch?
That's cool that you are also working on the ingrid sweater! PetiteKnit actually has a video on the mock cables on her website! There's a "video" section on her pattern page that includes many of the techniques she uses, but here's a direct link to her mock cables video if that helps!ruclips.net/video/q_5R5bkW9SU/видео.html
Hello, I so enjoy your fast paced podcast! For a beginner knitter, you are very skilled! In your first episode you commented on the itch factor….I too am very sensitive to wool and would someday like to try knitting the Step by Step sweater by Florence. Yours, BTW is beautiful and the colors are lovely with your skin tone and hair color!. Do you think Cascade 220, Merino that you used for your mittens would be a good sweater choice for someone with sensitive itch factor skin, esp. around my neck? Or would you have a better suggestion? I’ve never knit a sweater , so this would be a first for me. I look forward to your next episode and want to wish you a Merry Christmas and happy knitting 8n the new year🎄❤️. Gayle in MN.
Hi Gayle! Thank you for watching and I hope I didn't talk too fast ha! I used the superwash version of the Cascade 220, and both myself and my boyfriend (who also has a strong wool sensitivityl) have had no issues with it, even to wear as a hat on the forehead which is typically very sensitive to wool. I actually have not tried the non-superwash version of the Cascade 220, though I do plan to! I can wear some (non-superwash) wool sweaters next to skin, depending on the yarn, but to be honest, typically they are more comfortable if I wear a long sleeve shirt underneath. I haven't found wearing a layer underneath to be as inconvenient as it sounds. That said, everyone's skin is different so it's always a good idea to test it out! I have heard the suggestion to knit up a swatch and tucking it under your collar or something as you carry on your day!
I should also mention that I haven't knit a full sweater out of superwash wool but have read online that swatching is extra important because of how superwash can grow after washing, so I'll put that out there! Also Merry Christmas and happy new year to you as well :)
Aw that is so nice, thank you so much Carla! I actually haven't had an instagram in a couple of years - I am considering starting a knitting account but am not sure yet :)
I have some Miyabi yarn that I was looking to use in a pattern, I think the sweater pattern you used is perfect! What size needles did you use to get the required gauge?
Hello! So I actually did not meet gauge and didn't think I quite could - I tried a couple needle sizes to swatch (4 mm, 4.5 mm and 5 mm) and liked the 5 mm needle for the drape of the fabric. I think if I went too much bigger the fabric might be too loose. My gauge was closer to 18stitches/ 10cm, so I just sized up to get the measurements I wanted. For example my gauge was 12.5% smaller than the pattern gauge, so I picked a size that was 12.5% bigger than my desired size and knit that size. My tension might be different than yours though! Good luck :)

Hello from Asheville, fellow Blue Ridge Mountain knitter 😁! The sweater came out beautifully ❤️
Hello hello! Nice to meet another Blue Ridge Mountain knitter, and thank you so much! :)
Was such a pleasure to listen to your podcast. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching! :) I really appreciate it!
Happy I found you. Can’t wait to see more
Yay! Thank you so much for watching! :)
Fun Santa wall hanging. I knit and crochet. I’ll have to check around so I can make myself. Thanks for sharing.
That's awesome, knitting and crocheting are both pretty fun! I used chunky yarn and 8 mm needles so the hanging went pretty fast!
So glad I found your podcast! I love Roxanne Richardson, and have learned so much from her.
Thank you so much for watching! And me too!! She explains techniques so clearly and I love her demos - I feel like she's my youtube knitting teacher haha!

Enjoying your podcast! I would recommend trying fingerless mitts 💕
Oh thank you! I have become more intrigued by fingerless mitts lately, thanks for the suggestion!
Nice job!
Thank you so much!
Love the episode! Congrats!
Thank you! :)
I really enjoyed all your details and your great referencing. I used to live in NOVA Virginia and now in Georgia, where we have no yarn stores. 😢. We travel to Virginia to see family and always looking for LYS along the way. What town is it in or name of your LYS . Look forward to your next one.
I’m currently knitting my second Sophie scarf. I just finished my first one 😊
That's awesome! I'm super excited to cast on one haha
Your sweater turned out great, and you look fantastic in it. Very enjoyable episode
Hello! Thank you so much, it's super cozy! Thank you for watching :)
I really loved the sweater you are wearing and the colors are so nice. Also the Santa wall hanging is adorable, I might have to make something like that for next year!!!!
Thank you so much! And yessss go for it, the crochet version was pretty quick, especially if you use chunky yarn!
Try a video called Kathys tomato heel. It is so easy to do.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out!
Yiqi, thank you for reply and sending me a link for faux cable knitting. I tried to reply to your comment but it bounced back, so I thought I’d reply here. I could many tutorials by Petite Knits but not this one.
You're very welcome! glad I could help!
Just found ur podcast and really enjoyed it. I would love to make a Santa wall hanging if you can provide more details.
So many awesome creations! It's really interesting hearing about your process for each one too!
Thank you Katy! Haha I appreciate you bearing with all the details!
It's also pretty hard to find for me - I got them from an etsy store called Maruma yarns, I believe they're based in Latvia!
great job love your videos new subscriber.................... saludos amiga felicidades.
Thank you so much for subscribing! I really appreciate your support :)
Your sweater looks great!❤
Thank you!!
Try a bandana cowl ... or Hatdana
That sounds super cozy too! Thanks for the suggestion!
Your projects are so beautiful! And your sock knitting experience is so relatable. It's so true. If you're wearing one sock while you're finishing the other one, I see many pairs of socks in your future. :)
When you knit them, did you decrease with the gusset back to 66 stitches or to 72?
Another lovely podcast. So glad you decided to share your talents. Are you on Instagram?? The sweater you are wearing is gorgeous
@@tangerineknits This is great, thanks so much for sharing! I tend to be a tight knitter but having an idea of where to start helps a lot!
How many skeins of Miyabi did you use? I have 5 but I'm not sure how many more to get
Hello! I used just under 4 skeins and my sweater is ~120 cm in circumference and ~50 cm in length measured from below the collar!
🥰😍
