I liked how you went through every step. Very helpful for beginners. As a German Mechanic I would suggest putting new Coolant after 2 liters of water while the drain plug is still loose. Once you see the new Coolant come out of the pipe then you can tighten the plug so there's no Water remaining and fill till between min and max in the end don't forget to vent the air out of the cooling system. Just warm up the car to 90° till the radiators turn on, the thermostate opens up and only then the second cooling circle opens up and sucks in more coolant. Make sure to refill the whole time so the cooling system doesn't run dry. I wouldn't use water for flushing the system because it doesn't has any lubricant in it. Normal water can build lime which can damage the water pump. If water pump is dead the car overheats and could cause Major damages. Sorry for my poor English. Anyway very helpful video.
Thank you for your kind words and great tips on refilling. This is more on the emptying that refilling as I will cover that in a separate video when/ if I put a new engine in. I really appreciate the feedback buddy 👍👌
😂 because some reasons in the past 2 years, I’ve been changing the coolant 4X so believe it’s now she has quite healthy antifreeze but I totally used G13 -- nice vid-
I found that only draining from the bottom of the radiator does not get it all out. Removing the pipe attached to the oil filter housing drained even more out, to a combined total of around 3.5L of coolant.
Great video very well explained, just quick question I want to lower my TT mk1 1.8 in your experience are coilovers the way forward, just want the car to look better ,Thanks
Hi and thanks for your support and kind words. Regarding the lowering, coil overs are a popular way to do it. With anything, lowering your car with compromise ride comfort with the need for a stiffer setup to cope with with the reduced body roll, etc. something to factor into the decision. Looks vs comfort. It’s a tough call!
Hi Andy, Great video! Q: i did the same. All to the book. couldn't get more than 3.5 litre into the system. This even after running engine for 20 min. Heater on. Heater working fine. Isnt the system 5.5 litre? What could be the cause? any idea's? Thanks! Roy
Could be a few things Roy. An air lock could be holding some of the coolant still. The Rad might be full of crud or have a blockage. It might be worth removing the hoses and blasting the rad through with a hose to see if anything comes out. Thanks for your comment and watching the video! 👍
Hi Andy. Its strange. I have no cooling problems and cabin heating all good. I flushed because I wanted to change a plastic 3 ways plastic flange thats located just in front of the hockey puck. Nonetheless this makes me mad. Which tube do you suggest i pull? Low radiator tube? I watch all your video's. Good stuff:) PS. My car: Coupe MK1 225 BAM 2001, 159K KM.
Again, I"m bowing to the East. Thank you Andy.
Thank you vic
Brilliant at least someone done a video on how to do this properly & detailed ! Thanks!
Thanks man! I really appreciate your feedback and comment!!👍

I did this about a year ago to fit the new Coolant bottle but good to have a reminder, another great tutorial Andy

That is a good point. The removal of the cap should release any air lock or vacuum holding on to the water
Nice video Andy 👌
Thank you Peter!

Do you need to bleed or burp the coolant system to get the air out when refilling it?
Yes. Leave the cap off and get it to temperature. I will do a separate video on refilling 👍
@@andychargerplease do the vid on refilling !
How much coolant does it take ?
5.5 liters
