- For Zach’s side of the family, this will be the first grandchild. My side of the family this will be the 5th. We currently have 4 nephews so we will see if there will be 5 boys or 4 and a girl.

This made me so sad to watch. As a deaf person from a deaf family I'm not familiar with the feeling of missing out on all the conversations, and I can't even imagine not even being included in my own family's reaction to my pregnancy. I feel awful for Zach but i guess unfortunately that's just the reality for many deaf people in hearing families. The worst part for me is when you commented below that many in Zach's family are fluent in ASL, and they're still not using it to include their own son in their reaction to their first grandchild. Definitely a harsh meeting with reality for me watching this video.
Yeah to be honest it’s not easy for me. I of course still love my family. But it is my reality that English trumps ASL in my family. Before we were filming we were all signing, but even still there is simcom because my sister in law doesn’t know sign and then I end up still missing a lot.
But yeah it’s definitely a challenge
@@OurSignedWorld Hey Zach! Yeah you are not the only one. I always miss out the conversations with my family and my wife always have to interpret for me. It is an every day battle for me. Of course we love our family very much so we have our own challenges. While I was watching you in the background and went back to eat, my thought was "Just.... like.... me." We now have a 2 year old daughter. Congratulations to you and Court! Have you guys find out the gender yet? I hope we get together again soon! You both will be an amazing parent! Make sure you teach your child ASL. :) i know you will, my daughter knows ASL, English and German (my wife is from Germany so we have family there).

I felt the same way. Sometimes reality does suck.
Is that why you also record the reactions? I initially assumed it was so you could also be apart of what’s being said so you can catch all of it.
Ps I love you guys! I just had a kid and no one in my family is deaf but I’m going to school to be an asl interpreter and since my son is just learning to speak… I’m also teaching him basic signing. Your channel is awesome. ❤

I noticed that not everyone was signing, i know it’s hard for everyone to know sign but I can imagine it’s hard for Zach to figure everything out or does he wait for post editing???
Yeah it is hard. Typically if I’m not filing I’ll help interpret if they don’t sign or his mom will at his families home.

@@jessicashlager7193 His whole family knows asl. His mom and brother are fluent. His dad signs pretty well. But our sister in law doesnt know that much ASL
Why can't they sign and talk at the same time...to include everyone. I'm hearing ...i love ASL...don't know a whole lot but want to learn more. It just makes me sad if people are left out.
@@melissadoner933 It's actually really difficult. You're essentially speaking two languages at once, so you make mistakes very easily. Some people can do it well, but being fluent in both doesn't necessarily mean you can do both at the same time. I speak English and Japanesor saying the e but switching back and forth quickly in a converstation with multiple people gets super confusing and I end up making mistakes much easier or saying something in the wrong language.

I have 5 niece's and 2 nephew's and another little one due in March just found out that my sister is pregnant again on September 15th, she has a 2 year old boy right now, he'll be 3 the month before she is due with her 2nd baby. My Mom is Granny and my Dad is either Papa or Grandpa to my niece's and nephew's.

Congratulations to you both. Doesn’t zach deserve everyone signing so He can understand what’s going on? Makes me sad. My husband is in a deaf world and deserves to be involved always even around his family even if I am the one interpreting everything
Yes we are typically interpreting. Or signing. It was harder since I was filming
OurSignedWorld I read this one Facebook post years ago that changed my perspective written by a deaf man in a hearing world. Explaining how he rather go to a deaf event than a family reunion. It made me cry and realize a lot of things. Now y’all are having a sweet baby and that changes a lot of things. Teaching the baby to sign always when daddy is around and speak around you is a hard concept. My kids become frustrated but I tell them what if you were in a silent world and you couldn’t hear your words or anyone else’s. Your words are your hands when daddy is around. Being a hearing spouse is really challenging at times. But I turn to the lord a lot calling his name, Praying, singing verses, eating his word and I fellowship. I think that is why we have made it almost 10 years and also not believing the enemies lies. Using Jesus as my filter and filtering out the lies the enemy likes to feed us all day long.
