I think the knight check is unblockable. If the king moves, he'll either go for pawn or bishop. Then its 3 pawn + Rk vs King Rook. Its completely losing for blk.
You can tell by the body language and all the pieces on the board, but for future reference for the newer viewers, both kings were placed on white squares meaning white won (Magnus).

It's strange that Nepo will fold his internal state to Magnus, definitely a weakness. I think Nepo just does not have the emotional resilience yet. Defo one of the best, and a great guy who will come back stronger. And also definitely should of helped Magnus set that table up afterwards.
I knew that Carlsen would win this game just like I was certain Nepo would lose the playoff in the rapid tournament even though he is the better player, certainly in blitz. He cracks under pressure. A leopard cannot change its spots.
Thanks for the video! It confuses me a bit though that the chess diagram appears from the black perspective, would prefer it from the white perspective, since we are more use to seeing it that way. Just a suggestion, thanks!
It felt intuitive to me seeing it from black's perspective because when I look at the players playing, I'm looking at it from Nepo's pov because of how the camera is positioned
@Badi Michelin Nobody knows if Alireza is far from his peak. He might have peaked allready for all we know. Doubt it, but a lot of players peak early and falls. Btw, Carlsen crushed him.

At 3:27, Nepo should have played ...Ba3! His ...Bd6 move bit on granite with the pawn on g3. He later played ...Ba3 so he wasted a lot of time. If Magnus replies Bxf6 (like he did later in the game) ...Qxf6, RxR, RxR, Black commands the c-file.
Magnus made nepo commit his queen side pawn on the light squares so the dark square bishop cant protect it and then trade his dark square bishop for the knight and the rook does the clean up job after trading queens with doubled pawns damn magnus
at 7:19 Re2 by Nepo. I think Magnus was shaken at how bad that move was. I havent ran an engine or anything but wasnt just bailing out with Rxb3, Nxb4. Or am I miss calculating that line entirely? or Maybe its all winning with Rg3 by white Idk. Then at 7:46 just complete disrespect at viewers.
That line is lost for black after Rg3. Interestingly though I ran it with an engine as well and h5! seems to be the best bet. Point is if white takes then after Rxb3 Nxb4 Rxb4 and Rxc3, it is likely a draw because of the famous draw where the pawns are isolated which would be winning, but not far away enough from each other. Even if Magnus would be up 3 pawns, it would likely be a draw in that case.
He can't beat Magnus, because Magnus plays better defense. Napo doesn't know how to defend himself, his attacking style always costs him against Magnus.

At the end, you see the complete gulf in class between these two...Nepo storms off like a spoiled child with a face like a smacked backside that didn't get what he wanted...Magnus is putting Nepo's pieces back on the board!! Glad Nepo lost.
Ding Liren is the biggest threat to Magnus, but he doesn't win the candidates because he's not as good at preparing multiple opponents. This is according to Magnus himself.

at the end Carlsen arranges the black and white pieces, an example of humility!
I think Nepo missed a draw when Magnus played G4. He had Rxb3 with a time to take in G4 after the exchange with NxB4.
White has Rg3 in the end exchanging the rooks
Ah true. Might be losing for black then.
