Good one Mark (and Alf). That was a lot of dirt! I like the splashproof receivers. They’re terrible at keeping water away but quite effective when it comes to dirt. I do use 27 MHz on some of my classics too.

Cheers Nordic RC Visions - as you can tell the amount of dirt surprised us both! Looks like I could benefit from some of those splashproof receivers - at the moment though I only have 2 vintage Acoms transmitters and have put a 27mhz receiver in all of my cars, just swap crystals and off I go! It would be very expensive for me to upgrade them all now =)

Mark Bryan RC Yeah I have 27 MHz in my Hoppers and Hornets too. Works fine. Although the new very cheap Flysky 2.4G transmitters/receivers and the likes are a bit tempting. No need for splashproof when the Acoms are working fine with all the dirt. Just empty it once a year :-)

I'm still using ONE... My second Futaba Attack STICK Radio, that I bought for my second RC, the Hornet. Wish I still had the car, but still have the Radio!

Hello Lads, I may have to try this myself. I accidently yanked out the wire on my Hpi Trophy Trucks receiver recently. I don't know what the receiver looks like yet because it's buried deep in the bowels of the roll cage, but I know it's a 27mhz Hpi one, and probably full of crud too ! I wasn't too worried when I did it because I intended to replace it with a flysky receiver, but now I've seen this, I may have a go. I've nothing to lose. I can also get some soldering practice in as well.
I noticed you were using a toothbrush to clean your circuit board. Sometimes these can be a little harsh on delicate electrics.
My choice of tools are an old shaving brush I got from a charity shop for 20 pence, which bristles are strong enough to remove a lot of muck, but still flexible enough not to cause damage to tiny wires and components. The other tool I use is one of my Wife's old Blusher brushes. These have really long soft bristles and are excellent for getting in those hard to reach nooks and crannies and are absolutely brilliant for dusting your RC's if they've been sat around for a while. Great video : )

Have a go my friend - as you say you have nothing to lose and could gain a perfectly good receiver! Just make sure the soldering iron is good and hot and clean it with a damp sponge (but not synthetic sponge - it will melt!). Tin each surface and wire with solder first and it's a walk in the park - good luck mate :-)

Hi Holly Hill RC - I didn't comment on the circuit cleaning brush!!! Sorry! Take another look at the video my friend - it's got very soft black bristles - you are absolutely right about not using a brush with hard bristles - and the shaving brush and blusher brush are great choices :-) Many thanks for the excellent comment!

Yet another Top Tip friends!!! 👏👏👏👏
In my unfortunate position, tips like these are absolutely Golden!! One question..... and I can't seem to find a good answer on the Interwebs - would this also be an effective fix for a 2.4Ghz Receiver Antenna Wire???
As far as protecting the Receiver... Here's a couple of tips for you!
    1. Whilst you have the circuit board out, "Paint" the entire Board with either Conformal Coating or a good, 2-Part Epoxy. Keep any coating OFF of the pins for the leads to plug into. Also, apply some to the Antenna Wire, at least 1cm from the Board.
[Dust Proof and VERY Water Resistant!]
    2. Buy a number of short Receiver Leads (male one end, female other end), preferably about 3-5cm long each.
Remove the Receiver Board, and plug all of the Leads into any pins going out (channel/Batt outputs).
Buy one Tube of RTV Silicone (Color isn't Important). Whilst holding the Wire Bundle, smear the RTV Silicone ALL OVER Every bit of the Board and Plug Ends. Slide the Case Top through the Wire Bundle, until it rests over the Board.
Apply some more RTV on to the Bottom of the Board (for a tight pack when Case is closed).
Fix the two Case halves together, tighten Screws (if no Screws, lightly clmp or rubber band the halves tight).
Let sit for at least 12 Hours. If needed, add tags to each short Lead, as to where they plug into.
After the RTV Silicone has cured (18-24 Hours), install, plug your regular Leads into the short Leads, permanently fixed to the Receiver - ENJOY!!
[COMPLETELY Dust Proof - ABSOLUTELY able to submerge in Water!!!] 🍺👏👏👍👍😎
I do the second one to my Wraith and any other Crawlers I have, or will have (only have 2 at the moment 😭😭). I go through shallow Streams, and the Rig COULD roll over.... And, at two Crawling spots, there's fairly deep bodies of Water at the bottom.
I've seen Rigs lose control, and tumble into the deep water, destroying the electronics! Something that I hope will NEVER happen to me. I can't just run out and buy expensive electronic components anytime I please. 😖
I hope that these might be of some help to you or one of your Subscribers!

WOW Carmine!!! What a detailed and informative comment! Thanks very much for the advice on waterproofing the receiver - I will look at doing one of mine, and I'm sure that some viewers will also find this very useful.
As for the replacement antenna on a 2.4Ghz receiver - I'm not entirely sure, but if you can solder another 2.4Ghz antenna in the same way then I can't see why it shouldn't work. Thanks again :-)

Ahh - there is something else we have in common!! Age and a desire to share experience! I'm always glad even if only one person finds some useful item from one of my videos. I am curious to know about your unfortunate position - is it like me that you are on a very limited budget and have other priorities for any 'spare' cash? My family take up the bulk of my little income :-)

Some of my Family has considerable wealth.... they have no intention of helping us.
I'm on Military Disability Pay. Had an unhappy meeting with an IED, in Kuwait, in 1991.... I was able to carry on for another 15-16 years, then my Body couldn't do it anymore. Being forced into Retirement at 47, SUCKS!!
Then, in 2006, my Mama became ill. I took both of them in, and did what I could to help both of them in my home.
In 2012, my Mama died..... then my Dad, 33 days later, from not much more than a Broken Heart.
Double Final Expenses was staggering, especially since my Dad was also in the Air Force, but a bonafide Hero and Badass! He was entitled to a Full Honours Burial at Arlington National Cemetery, along with me Mum. Paid.
Unfortunately, it didn't include the cost of getting them across the Country, and then we had to get 2100 Miles to the Funeral, plus make arrangements for Family.
By the time we got back, we realized that we were TAPPED. Life Savings, 401K, everything - GONE!
      THEN we lost the House.
I thought the worst was behind us, then in 2016, my 28 year old Daughter was killed in a high speed accident with a Semi (Articulated Lorry).
She was across the Country in North Carolina, with her mum (my ex). We were SO broke, we couldn't afford to get to her Funeral....
I'm STILL not over that!! That's a pain that I hope NOBODY has to experience. I'm completely gutted.
Then it got WORSE! The Great Exalted Obama didn't raise Military Pensions ONCE in 7 years!!!! Rent and Utilities and FOOD kept going up though.
I'm at a point, where I've lost nearly 115 POUNDS. Mostly by starvation.
At least I WAS a typically FAT American! But seriously, we're hungry.
I finally swallowed my Pride, and set up an account to accept donations for our plight.
I shared the link on my favorite RC Forum.... I was SUSPENDED for it! One or two good people shared the link on RUclips Videos.
We've received VERY little help as of now.
I feel I've humiliated myself for nothing.
For shits and giggles, I'll give you the link... Maybe you know people.
      paypal.me/pacbeltrr
Fortunately, I've got enough spare parts to keep my Hobby going. I sometimes think it's the only thing keeping me sane....
I don't like telling that story, and that's not even all of it. If someone told me all that, I might be inclined not to believe it!
I only did this, because you asked. You guys seem like a kind and good Family.

Question on my HPI Baja 5B there is no hole for the antenna wire to stick out from the receiver box, I'm not getting much range? its a 27mhz HPI remote, wire looks OK Your video isn't showing

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 года назад

Is the wire inside the receiver box, I assume it must be if there is no hole? If so I would drill a small hole in the box and extend the antenna outside the box, this should dramatically improve the range! :)

The receiver works fine until over a range of about 5 meters when it just goes all glitchy 🤔 I trimmed it to 35cm’s as you suggested in a previous comment, it had a similar range pre trimming when the cable was around 50cms..

Hi Johan - I haven't tried RJ11 cable but I'm sure it will work OK as the wires are a similar diameter - go for it! About 30 to 35mm long should do the trick :)

Sorry not that I know of, it sounds like you have a 2.4Ghz system and mine are analogue 27Mhz systems. The only other thing I can think of is to check the manual and reset the receiver and try to bind again. I had a similar problem a while back, and had to send the Receiver back for a refund.
