When it comes to bringing in and manipulating images within Silhouette Studio, I really like using the Layers feature to A. Keep a copy of the original image and B. Keep copies of the resized / cropped / traced / detached fragments if I ever need them again. Using layers allows me to simply hide them, and they won't clutter my workspace, and won't print or cut. For that, however, the Studio needs to be upgraded at least to the Designer version.
Hi! Great video! Can you give tips on how to do this for items that are larger than the 12x12 cutting mat? I was wanting to sublimate pillow cases - which of course don’t fit in the cutting mat. 😊 thanks for sharing all of your wisdom!
Great question! In this case, I would measure the pillowcase and then draw a rectangle in the software to represent the size. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey Joy, you sure can. You can save your files from Silhouette Studio as an SVG to be able to open in Design Space and cut on your Cricut. Hope this helps! ---Becky ruclips.net/video/U_aXLOZ1D1Q/видео.html
Hi Becky, this tutorial was awesome!. I tried this, as I want to add templates for onesies and t-shirt (trace the outline of the picture I uploaded) and keep in my library. I trace everything fine, but I want to be able to use the template to insert backgrounds and crop in the image of the template and it does not work .. I hope I am making sense. Any advise? I am doing this for sublimation. Thank you!!
Hey Gee Lee, I'm not sure if I follow what you mean. You are tracing the shirt and want to fill it with a pattern background? If so, Crop should work, just make sure you only have the two things selected. If you have too many items selected, I believe it just deletes it all. Hope this helps! ---Becky
If I got a template for a blank that I ordered, how do I put my design on it. For example I need to put a background color on it, then a picture on top of that. When I put the color on the template it covers the whole box instead of just the template.
Hey Dawn, I personally use the Business Edition, but recommend everyone to start with the basic edition and work their way up, since not everyone needs all the features provided by the updates. Hope this helps! ---Becky
I'm afraid I don't understand. Without marking out the dimensions of the bag, how do you know how big of a logo to cut? In your template, you only matched the relatively size of the logo to the relative size of the bag.
Hey, great question! The reason this works is because we are able to use the cutting mat as a sizing scale. So because the cutting mat (inside grid) is 12" wide, and we make it 12" wide (after cropping) in the software, then we know that the size of the bag is a true representation of the real-life size. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey Paulette! You certainly can, as long as your scanner output is measurable (like a letter size sheet). Anything you can use to size the photo will work the same way. Hope this helps! ---Becky
I do, Shella. It's a great way to size your designs and if you need to create a full-coverage design, you can trace the item you are working with. Thanks for watching! ---Becky

Could you scan the item and save as a jpg then bring in to silhouette?
