    Subscribing to things (heated seats and air care climate) that were fitted as standard to fairly normal Golfs more than 10 years ago is crazy!

    Surely a mechanic would be able to modify the infotainment system to unlock these "features" ?

      yes but u wwoill lose ur garantee

      not really. these require communication with VW servers with a bunch of "true" or "false" checks.
      "if payment_recieved = true then activate [seats]", etc,.

      Very tru this comment everything goes thru vw servers

      @@de_stroyed Yes youre right, but disconnect the internet and modify the software and these checks wont go through right ? Its a lot of complicated stuff, but Im sure something can be done

      @ I doubt it, if there's no internet connection, it can't validate if you have the subscription. they lock this stuff down really hard.

    cant wait for cars to have a £1500/week subscription for the infotainment

  • @jakegwilliam

    Be interesting to see what will happen years down the line when the service hosting this subscription service closes down... cars will essentially become a rolling brick. Also be interested to see if this can be coded in/out and bypass the requirement to pay for things already installed on the car.

    Is this a golf R? Do they put the DCC option through this as well?

    Will this keep cars under the 40k luxury car tax by moving the cost post purchase and not at point of sale

    • @TheVWMechanic_official
      @TheVWMechanic_official  4 дня назад

      It’s a very good comment and for me it would make absolute sense and you could say the brand is looking out for the consumer

    • @Mark_1974
      @Mark_1974 4 дня назад +1

      @TheVWMechanic_official prices would need to remain lower though which they are not. Hitting 40k doesn't take much now. The New Tig' is a prime example.

      Massively agree matey the whole situation is backwards

  • @Carlos_Teixeira_Drums
    @Carlos_Teixeira_Drums 4 дня назад +4

    I think if we accept the subscription models on heated seats then brands will start to take the piss and like you said we will have to subscribe to turn signals 😅 etc .... I also think if it gets out of hand then we can get to situations where someone has a car and opens the boot normally but has the subscription option to open electronically for example. Then when something goes wrong with the boot mechanism the person will have to fork out more money to replace a mechanism that they never even used...I like the appeal but I don't trust the corporations and I would rather have the choice to save money and retrofit things that I want if the car doesn't have for example...just my opinion 😊

    • @TheVWMechanic_official
      @TheVWMechanic_official  4 дня назад +1

      I value your opinion matey and it makes total sense we will just have to keep an eye out and see what changes come about

    • @Carlos_Teixeira_Drums
      @Carlos_Teixeira_Drums 3 дня назад +1

      I know that streamline manufacturing and buy in bulk does help manufacturers save money but the reality is that cars keep getting more and more expensive ... Hopefully things will get better for both sides 🤞

      We can only help matey ….spare a thought for us technicians who are having to learn this on a daily basis just to provide a service to the customer which they deserve but we are getting no extra money and we are having to fund the majority of the tools out of our own pay packet

    My Touareg V6 from 2007 has all these features for free, heating seats, heating mirrors and heating steering wheel. She drives perfect, still maintained at VW and is a superb 4x4, the engine is a monster. The only thing that i had to replace in 5 years is the turbo actuator which was burnt suddenly

    If this subscription crap carries on we're gonna end up with A/C subscriptions because you live somewhere cold
    Either the manufacturer puts the feature in and enables it by default or doesn't get fitted at all NO DISCUSSION!!

    In my 2003 volvo i just hit a button and my seats are nice n cozy within minutes!
    Jokes aside though i think volvo did actually trial this and it backfired on them and they ended up not doing it... although iirc I think ive heard theyre thinking of doing it again if not already doing it? (Anyone feel free correct me if im wrong)
    I think this is outrageous and should be illegal... this is like buying a house and paying a subscription fee to be able to lock your doors or buying a car and you need to pay a subscription for the airbags or rear seatbelts to not lock up.. ridiculous. The car comes with the items but you cant use them?!

  • @johnnyalanbailey
    @johnnyalanbailey День назад +1

    You can literally buy the option for like £330 though. So it doesn’t have to be a subscription. Most people spec cars poorly and lease them/PCP and trade on so there’s loads of poorly specced cars on the road. Here, you’d just have to buy the option as you would from factory. I don’t see the issue. Pay £330 from new and have heated seats from the factory or pay £330 ten years later for a car that didn’t have them specced from the factory…
    This way people buying second hand cars can have all the options without having to spend thousands in depreciation, I think the only people annoyed are the ones buying these brand new cars on PCP/lease deals where they can’t afford the car and definitely none of the nicer spec options 😂

    I refuse to buy a new car, and I'd rather not drive at all than deal with this if all the older cars were gone or made illegal to drive!

  • @Horizon301.
    @Horizon301. 4 дня назад +1

    Heated seats wouldn’t necessarily be standard anyway on this car so giving the option later isn’t an issue in my view as many people just purchase based upon a budget and would like a feature at a later date. I think the unlimited should be nearer to £200 though myself as I doubt you would pay the full price of the option on list

    • @TheVWMechanic_official
      @TheVWMechanic_official  4 дня назад +4

      I agree they aren’t always fitted as standard but it’s just the beginning of the end for the car scene and trade

    Well this wouldnt be the first time i think bmw tried to it kinda backfired.
    But know theres a little standard the idea behind is if you bought the car second hand or new and wanted to get some extra features you cant afford at the giving type you could buy it.
    Also the resell value can be higher.
    (About the last part this was the explanation about a company why they sell automatic light assistant).

      The other thing i could do is data plan.

    Doesn't seem too bad to be honest. The Winter pack is £485 for the heated seats (although that includes the rear seats, not sure if the subscription does too). So actually, £330 to unlock it permenantly afterwards is ok.
    Also, if your building the car and the price is approaching the £40k mark then it would make sense not to order heated seats new, to keep under that trigger for the luxury car tax, and then just buy it later. At what looks to be a cheaper price too.
    And if your buyuing second hand, and the orioginal owner didn't spec it from new, at least the option is there.
    And I guess at some point, some clever people will figure out how to circumvent the subscription stuff, and just get all that stuff enabled.
