Just got my Clifton 9 GTX and wasn’t sure how they’d handle snowy Finnish weather, but I’m impressed. The grip is amazing, no slipping at all. Perfect for winter conditions👍
i own cliffton 8's but irish weather has taken a toll on them. waiting for the hoka cliffton gtx to arrive in the mail, this review has me very excited!
Hey man, I'm living in Ireland too. How have your Hoka GTXs been? Do you like them? Do you notice the breathability between normal clifton and gtx? Have you used them during the warm weather yet?
NB 880 GTX are another option, my current go-to, wondering why many road gtx shoes tend to be black with reflectors... I'd love a yellow /orange pair (for being seen purposes) anyone know any?
Good to know about the 880 GTX. Good observation on GTX road shoes being mostly black. It seems like they would sell a lot more if they were available in other colorways. Hoka does make these in one other color which looks far better than my black pair!
Do your feet feel any hotter or warmer because they're less breathable than the non GTX variant. I plan on wearing them for work as an aircraft mechanic and I go in and out of the hangers often and I cant decide between the two.
I live in a warm climate and can definitely feel a difference in the breathability between the two. It really comes down to if you think your feet are going to get wet. If you're not running in them, I don't foresee the breathability being an issue in the GTX.
@@its_Matt_B_ thank you for your input. Think I’m going with the non gore Tex version since weather is starting to warm up and I hate to have a hot shoe on for 8+ hrs a day
The GTX version doesn't really help if you're running in the rain, because they'll still get wet from the top down. They will be a good option if you run when it's wet out and they'll keep your feet dry. Do you sweat so much that your sweat soaks your shoes? If so, stick to the regular (non-GTX) version.
Subject: Inquiry Regarding PFAS Usage in GORE-TEX Clifton 9 GTX Model Dear HOKA Family and Customer Service Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inquire about the materials used in the Clifton 9 GTX model, particularly in relation to the GORE-TEX technology employed. As PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have been recognized for their potential adverse effects on health and the environment, I understand that GORE-TEX has introduced ePE membranes as a more environmentally responsible and PFAS-free alternative. Could you kindly confirm whether the Clifton 9 GTX model utilizes the PFAS-free ePE membrane, or if it incorporates the standard GORE-TEX membrane, which may still contain PFAS? This information is critical for consumers like me who are mindful of sustainability and health-conscious product choices. I appreciate HOKA's dedication to quality and innovation, and I trust that your transparency on this matter will continue to reinforce your reputation as a responsible and forward-thinking brand. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response. Best regards, James B.
I really wanted to like the Clifton 1 when it came out in '14. It didn't suit me so I exchanged it for a Newton (remember Newtons?). My current waterproof trail shoe is the Lone Peak. Thx, Matt.
I had to look up the Clifton 1, and I see it was rereleased in 2018. It’s surprising you went from considering the Hoka to getting the Newton. They seem like polar opposites. Although I haven’t run in any Newton shoes, I always think of them as being low stack and very firm.
@@its_Matt_B_ The believe the reissue was '18 but the original was '14. Nonetheless, I was wearing Newtons as the time, and bought in to the Clifton hype.
I'm looking for a well cushioned waterproof shoes for everyday wear. I tried Asics gel-venture 9 waterproof, but its sole seems to be a bit harder for me, which gave me foot pain. Could you please suggest a good pair of waterproof shoes for me? Is this HOKA clifton 9 gtx would be a best pick for me? Thanks in advance ❤
This is the only waterproof shoes I have, so I can’t make any make any recommendations other than these. Still, these are very comfortable and I would recommend them!
I was and still am a big fan of the Nike Pegasus Trail 4 Gore-Tex. Up here in eastern Canada through the winter we get a lot of snow, slush and ice. The traction on the Nike has been better than expected given the reputation of Nike trail shoes not having the best grip. Although I am looking for something a little more plush that might offer some weather protection so I might have to give these a try. One concern I had was with the EVA midsole and how that reacts to cold temperatures. Some shoes I have used in the cold winter months in the past really turn into bricks when it gets really cold.
I think they’d work well for what you need them for but unfortunately (or fortunately) I don’t have access to the type of temperatures that turn a midsole to bricks! 😮💨
I require two things, wide toe box for my Morton’s Neuroma and arch support. Have narrow feet with high arch. Is this the shoe for me? I have been wearing Altra Lone Peak with additional inserts.
I'd say it's worth getting and trying on (if you can get free return shipping), but I don't think it'll work for you, especially coming from the Lone Peak. This is just slightly narrower than the normal version.
Hey. I have seen that you have already tested a lot of Hoka shoes. I currently use the Bondi 8 all day long. I do this for unfortunately very unfortunate health reasons. Bondi 8 has a soft sole and extremely good cushioning. This is important for me so that I can walk. If I wear the wrong shoes, I have so much pain that I can't walk the next day. I am looking for a shoe for the winter or in the rain. They should be waterproof and as warm as possible and at the same time as similar as possible to the bondi 8. Do you have any tips for me? Thanks for your help
@@EiskalterEngel82 Hi! I think these Clifton GTX may be worth trying. I do find these slightly firmer than the Bondi, but not by much! It may be worth buying them and trying them around the house before committing to wearing them all day! Let me know how it works out for you!

@@EiskalterEngel82 I can give you recommendations all day for well cushioned running shoes, but I live in an area that is warm and doesn’t rain too much, so I don’t get to test many waterproof shoes.
This doesn’t seem like a tough question. Do you run in wet weather? Choose the C9 GTX. If not, the next question is between the regular Clifton 9 and the 1080v13. 😆
I'm sorry, I don't know. I have nowhere to test them in that situation and there is no advertising suggesting they're made for that. I suggest taking to some of your co-workers to see if any of them wear Hokas; they rubber on these is the same as other Hokas.
For me it fits TTS but I do notice it’s a slightly tighter fit than the non-GTX version. I would say it depends on how your normal shoes fit. If they’re generally a little tight, or they simply fit just right, it may be a good idea to bump up a 1/2 size.
Hi. I buy them in size 9 US , 27cm, my first Hoka. I made a return and buy 9.5 (27.5) , what do you think? the half size is gonna be to much in length and in the same time the bigger size is not gonna change to much the middle tight?
I don't think it's better. I actually prefer the Clifton over the Bondi. Do a quick search for CLifton vs. Bondi and you'll see all the spec differences.@@bisogrg7800
@@bisogrg7800this isn’t slip resistant, however, i was just on the hoka website today and they just came out with an all leather & waterproof “bondi sr” that is indeed slip resistant as well. bondi is actually more comfortable due to more cushioning than the clifton.
