I completely agree, I am so over it! I try I really do, but it’s the same stuff over and over again! I much rather watch more fulfilling stuff, but I really don’t want to hear about how his daily life…he’s become a mature collector, chasing passion and not the addiction anymore…that’s the sweet spot!
That is because the fun has been washed away for profit, greed, CT scanning, product being taken out of the hands of collectors by LCS's, box breakers and Ebay flippers. Everyone cares so much about value and forgot how to enjoy the simple fun of ripping packs. Not everything revolves around the almighty dollar. You choose not to enjoy the hobby....
Breakers getting loaded boxes, CT scanners to see what's in packs and boxes, Kurt's Card Care, fake autographs, counterfeit cards, trimmed cards, sports card show thefts, new overpriced products that focus more on the gambling aspect instead of collecting. Other than that, it's a great hobby!
The breakers loaded boxes part people aren’t using their brain cells. The rest I agree with. Breakers open the vast majority of the product, they’re going to get the vast majority of the big hits. Extremely obvious simple math
When values of cards aren’t trending well, and other things like crypto, stocks and even Pokemon cards are flying… it’s hard for sports card folks. The FOMO isn’t there now. Collecting over investing is the season right now. This can change. Pokémon was struggling last year but right now having the biggest bull run other than 2021.
@ I am hoarding sealed Pokemon. 😅 Never has one box not gone way up. I’ve put a quarter million into boxes so far. And adding. Also… Pikachu wont break a leg or Charizard wont wave a gun around in a club.
Dennis goes through some interesting thought exercises, which is why I watch. If Dennis were my son, I'd advise him to sell all his high-end cards now while he has offers on them and just keep a binder of his favorite cards as a kid for when nostalgia hits. This is based not on how I think the market will do but more about what Dennis has said. Dennis has a family and seems to be a rock in his community and we need people like that to hold others up.
When I returned to the hobby earlier this year, it was because I had picked up some vintage bootleg Yu-Gi-Oh! cards off eBay, purely from nostalgia because I had those as a kid. Then I started to pick up where I left off when I was last in the hobby, which was collecting Dallas Cowboys cards for my PC. But as the summer came and went, I started to gravitate more and more toward Yu-Gi-Oh!, and now it's almost my exclusive focus in collecting. I related to when DPZ was mentioning collecting more of what he grew up with, and I found myself doing exactly that as the year has progressed. I've collected less of what I'm unfamiliar with and more of what I grew up with and tertiary items around that. I think going into 2025, as the hype continues to die down and prices continue to drop, people will gravitate toward what they actually enjoy versus "big plays" and speculation.
I like Dustin as a person and truly appreciate his work ethic and consistency. But agreed, I stopped watching because of all the clickbait algorithm headline stuff. Im ok with him monetizing, but it’s too hot take all the time. I wish the hot take stuff was like once a week. It’s almost like mainstream media - I just started to ignore many of the videos. I hope Dustin takes this as constructive criticism to help improve his product.
@ thank you. Keep making the videos, you are a leader in the space and help set the tone more than you probably even realize. Especially in the YT media landscape. I’m sure there’s a balance somewhere between it all. Hot takes get clicks, but at a certain point people the drama turns folks away. I think we are there. We enjoy hearing a mix of everything between the player picks, the “plays”, the big picture, upcoming events, your personal updates, collecting strategies, new products, etc… let’s cap the drama a little. If you do, I know I will come back and along with several others. The length of the videos is perfect and your consistency is unmatched. Thank you for taking this constructively
I really enjoyed this video.. good content… I am having trouble finding good content that interests me… my previous comments were kinda negative… but I really enjoyed and watch all this video.. thats getting rare for me to watch it all...
I watch less card content but I’m just as active buying and collecting cards as I ever been… moving into more expensive cards so less cards but more money spent on the hobby….I’m now into bigger big name vintage cards… always was but even more so now..
Dustin keep doing what you’re doing. But DPZ just always seems down. Maybe he needs a real break from cards for a good year. It gets tiring hearing him say everything sucks
For me I've lost some interest in card content because I am more a collectibles guy than just cards. Like I recently tried to purchase a issue 1 near mint thrasher magazine but he wanted 1.35 k so no deal. But 2 days ago I was able to acquire a grail collectible if mine a afa 89q Megatron figure. I'm really been looking at graded toys alot more recently.
@@TheSportsCardDad merry christmas and happy news years back to you.. hope u and ur family had a great time !!! 2025 starts.. time to put our heads down and buy more sports cards !!!! :)
Card prices are so low now im buying more than ever! It's still a much healthier, cheaper and fun hobby than doing drugs and/or blowing the money at bars and resteraunts 💯
The Dip in the card market has me less interested in sports card content. Now I only focus on cards I want long term with no rush to own them and keep my goat cards that I own long term like a 401k investment regardless of the current market conditions on the card market. Also, I'm not thrilled with Fanatics taking over in 2025 I think? Don't forget since SCR went off air the card entertainment has died out, no offense to DPZ & SPCD.
The sports card market dwindling means that most people have recovered from their Covid lockup and are now doing normal things instead of card collecting. 10x the hobby? More like .1x the hobby
u said having the 5 best cards u want seems so BORING… I collect invest in about 500 cards of the best players in ALL sports.. do u know how fun it is to buy and collect those cards… I’m having a blast… even pokemon..I’m a 500 best cards collector in all sports and entertainment and game cards.. it is SO FUN...
DPZ from what I know is just a griffey collector… I find that SO BORING considering all the great players on all the different sports…. I collect many big players… to limit my collection to just griffey does not sound very fun in the hobby… ur playing in less then 1% of the hobby cards.. I dont know anyone else that just collects one player.. it makes no sense to have FUN in the hobby..
Yes we are Dustin can collect his stranger things, go to Taylor’s swift concerts and make videos about Geoff Wilson that have already been made, Dustin sports card dad do you ever do anything different, your interests are lame for god sake , show some enthusiadm
I’m with dpz, if it’s not a breaking news video all the daily content creators are making the same videos over and over and over. They bleed into one another, nothing original.
I keep my instagram follows to a minimum - so I only see content I want to see. And I don’t like the short-form content because it feels like an attention grab for clicks. I enjoy the long form content from Adam Gray (Across the Hobby), Stacking Slabs, and the Crossover. Sometimes Precious Metal Gents. Everything else is noise to me.

Money RUINS EVERYTHING
💯!

Are you selling your sealed pokemon positions? Holding? Or buying more? Just curious, I picked up a few booster boxes

i actually do watch my buddy Dustin, and i do this for fun and free

The real collectors will still be collecting as usual while we watch these grifters come and go! 😊
Second half of the video saved this episode 🎉
Once Your collection Gets Cherry 🍒 Picked. It's Not As Fun..

sorry i am coming across that way, not my intention. I am still very much into collecting. Just seems the content isnt as attractive.
It was a mission statement - Jerry McGuire

none taken but you are correct. a little drama keeps things interesting
Bring back the Brad cake videos!!! This is what the hobby needs right now!!
The sports card market dwindling means that most people have recovered from their Covid lockup and are now doing normal things instead of card collecting. 10x the hobby? More like .1x the hobby
maybe steady slow growth
What’s up….

We need more drama
You guys are wildly off the mark yet again.
I’m sure ‘average joe’ has all the answers….😂🙄
