The funniest thing about all this is those wings don't actually make any downforce. During testing the downforce made by the wing upset the car's balance, so Lamborghini decided to just put a neutral wing on the car which doesn't make downforce or lift. This means the only thing the wing does is increasing drag lol
@@bora9491since the Countach already drives like a barn, that’s exactly what they went for. Coolness they could sell plenty with the Countach, and they did! Track performance? Not so much.. A Miata goes way better and faster through corners than the Countach.

Some dreams need to stay dreams. As a kid I among all my friends lusted after this car. Always loved it until. 23yrs old and I get a call from a family member who bought one. Red. He wanted me to drive it from Maine to Florida. He was away on business and knew my love for the car. I'm stupid excited. I fly up and get delivered to where it is. Then my dreams rapidly deteriorated. The salesmen told me about rules I have to follow and quirks and ... Yeah the rearview thing. Still excited I get into it and start it up and take it into a neighborhood doing laps around until the transmission oil warmed up because if I didn't bad things could happen. Shifting this thing felt like a tractor. About 30 mins it took it was winter and super cold outside. Finally all warmed up I slowly hit local highways for a bit and gingerly merge onto interstate. Of course I nail it. Holy moly the power. The engine sound, the vibration the tight steering with no power steering.... About 2 hours in I realized I'm no longer liking this it became massively uncomfortable. By my 3rd gas stop I'm over it. Everytime I stop someone is approaching me.. I just want the trip to end. Finally make it to Florida where its hot and the AC although fully working didn't do squat. My back was killing me my butt was numb. My left leg tired from all the shifting. My arms tired because steering at anything slow took a lot of force. Trip from hell. I look at the Lambo differently now
And another fun fact is that it serves no purpose, it doesn’t add any downforce, it’s been designed to only be cosmetics and doesn’t affect the car’s aero because of its inclination
Never understood how regulations can be in place for cars not to have their rear windows views blocked by anything, when vans and lorries do not have rear windows at all, and it's perfectly fine.
Not only does the rear wing make rearward vision impossible (it was already awful), but it’s actually aerodynamically bad. AND it was an option that Lamborghini charged $5,000 for. The pure looks of the early Countach’s can’t be beat.
Countach was designed without a wing. It doesn’t sit well with the 70’s design language of the Bertone studio, which wanted clean lines. See Lancia stratos zero by ghandini. It was fitted with a wing only when it’s looks started to feel outdated.
I owned a 84 black carbureted one it had better visibility through the back window but nevertheless she still had to sit out the back side door to be able to back it up nevertheless the car was really fun to drive it was a tank though it had only 15 inch wheels I didn't have it catalytic converter because it was a European for the European market and I only paid $80,000 for it
I've always been anti-wing for the Countach specifically. I know people grew up with the poster or whatever. I grew up with the Countach being the "Exotic" in the N64 Rush games and tge Infernus in Vice City. Those didn't have the wing, so that's the shape I fell in love with. I had 2 Hot Wheels Countaches, and I always preferred the yellow one without the wing or flares over the red one with both.
Originally, countach meant "contagion," dating back to the 1630 plague that struck the city of Turin. "Il contagio" (the contagion) was called "ël contacc," which likely turned into the exclamation "Contacc" as a cry of despair or as a warning to stay away.
Indeed that was the origin of the Word but the car was named that way in another context: in modern times in "piemunteis" language countach became an exclamation of wonder, or Surprise, the story goes someone in Pininfarina factory exclamed "countach" when seeing the prototype maquette, like when you see a good looking women or car or anything stunning
I thought the story behind it was that some rich guy wanted Lamborghini to keep the wing on the countach because it looks cool. Lamborghini however said that the wing isn't necessary since it's extremely aerodynamic as is and adding a wing would only make it slower. The guy didn't care and told them to do it anyway and there you go
There was a very low one owner Countach for sale in Australia a year or two ago and the rear wing was still wrapped and packaged in its box , never fitted
A countach is not complete without the wing. I dint know why but if you remove still looks interesting but doesn't look fascinating. Quite strange but this is one of few designs that makes you feel you are living in a dream. Later you can arguing something else but you've experienced an alive dream. I was told one time that the Wing reduces the top speed 10 kilometers
Technically no, but for safety reasons, don’t go those extra 10km/h to prevent losing front tire grip

No to mention the wing added next to zero downforce, because countach didn't need it, it was tail heavy anyway, it was there mainly for the looks.
