Richard has been giving talks on non-duality since 2005 and has written four books about it, including the much-loved little classic ‘I Hope You Die Soon’. His fifth book, ‘Confessions of a Seeker’ is about his many years as a spiritual seeker but it also includes chapters on free will, consciousness and religion. It is sometimes extremely funny (one reader laughed so much she had to stop reading it in public places) and sometimes profoundly serious.

I should love to spend an evening in a pub with Richard, knocking back a couple of pints and sharing some good laughs, and perhaps a game of darts. So accessible as an apparent personality in sharing this non-dual message.

And since I'm in a rare humor today, I can't help but to notice the outfit and think of Richard as The Godfather of Nonduality. Sorry if anyone's feather's get ruffled....back to lurking....

Loving these series. Your attempt to describe in words “That which can only be pointed to” is both enjoyable and much appreciated from the illusionary me that still appears to exist and understand it, and of course can’t see it. lol 😆🙏

Gosh, the apparent me which never existed, finds a sort of fascination arising from and as nothing, for no one to notice.

Best description "I" have come across so far! Weirdly as you were describing the "past" I totally got it and my characters history became flat in its appearance.. then you said about it being 2d instead of 3d. Forking excellent and resonated perfectly. Your space analogy too, so clear! Beautiful, wondrous, best clear experience I have experienced in this area to date thank you

Such an amazing video lesson / explanation and not enough views / likes. Thanks
    1) It is possible to measure the beginning and the end of a moment.
It is possible to measure time > do you know these things? ( it looks like a stupid question but it seems it needs to be asked, since you phrase those ideas... )

Saying "There's only this", then describing "this" as "what's happening" has a lot of holes in it. Particularly if you're also saying there's no such thing as time and space.
Many Non Dual types phrase it as "there's only what's happening", but think about it.. There simply can't be any "happening" can't even be spoken of without time and space.
For something to happen, it has to start and end. It has to occur. A thunderclap happened.
There was silence, then the thunder occurred, then stopped.
Thunder "happened", but without time and space, no thunder. (no happening of anything)
Alright, people will say, but these things only happen in the moment, in the timeless now.
Fine, but that's still like a window looking out of a moving train at what's "happening".
Philosophers call this play of changing form "dream like", but Non Duality's position is like stating "There is only the dream".
It's stuck in enjoying the play, with the view of non separation.
Of course this is infinitely more enjoyable than the view of separation! but uh... where exactly is non separation to be found?
Only in the dream, in maya, in the illusion, samsara, the matrix etc.
Ramana Maharshi, and centuries ago Gaudapada, put forth that this never even happened.
    There is no creation.
There really is no time and space, therefore nothing CAN happen. This kind of thing points to outside, or beyond the dream.
The Godhead or Parabrahman are words that point to that.
Non Duality is good to wake you up from the first dream, but it can be seen that it's a second dream to wake up out of.

Really enjoyed this insight. I posed a similar question as a separate comment, but will reframe it here- do you think the concepts of subjective vs objective reality can help simplify the above challenges around space and time? IE, asserting that there is no space and time from the subjective perspective makes sense, and does not need to conflict with what science asserts as more or less "objective" reality. From my perspective, these endless arguments around "it's all an illusion" vs "uh, no it's literally right here" can be squashed with this simple distinction.

A happening is story told under the presumption of an external objective event experienced by a subjective separate entity named "me", "self" or the body. No thing ever happened

We know that time doesn’t exist at the speed of light. So we know it’s possible. What if conscious operates at light speed.
I think mine operates at snail speed.

Hey Richard I believe you (referring to your body/mind) might be able to understand where this comment is coming from. I don't find the pointer "what is happening" to be very useful. The traditional usage of the phrase appeals to the physical senses. I found the pointer "there is no you" to be infinitely more helpful since it appeals to the "you" sense alone and that is the crux of the matter. The former, from the perspective of the body mind, just opens up more questions about what does "what is happening" actually mean. Physics has a huge and growing account of this but this seems beside the point from the perspective of helping "others" to grapple with the essence of this sharing. Just a comment. I'm not dogmatic about it.

The non dual assertion that spacetime is an illusion is not as crazy as it sounds Richard. Physicists have attempted for decades to reconcile Einstein’s Theories of Relativity with quantum mechanics without success. Both of these ideas, have to modified or extended in some way," according to Arkani-Hamad from the Institute of Advanced study at Princeton University. Arkani-Hamed is a highly cited scholar in theoretical physics said." Because of the existence of gravity and quantum mechanics, we believe that the concept of spacetime is doomed and there are many simple thought experiments that tell us that space time is doomed.”

I enjoyed this video having had a 'moment' of awareness myself. As it is said in the Tao '..he who speaks (of it) doesn't know, and he who knows (of it) doesn't speak'. Simply because it is beyond the mind. And Jesus said the same thing '..it is beyond understanding..' that is beyond the mind. It is virtually impossible to express it to one who has not that experience. Better to do it the way Richard is doing it, on a video. That is why so much emphasis is put on meditation, when the mind could transcend itself. Simple, but not easy.
First video I have seen of Richard, wont be the last.

Hi Richard, I really enjoy your videos a lot. I find them deeply honest and still warm and kind. In regards to space etc....maybe you can find the "time" (no pun itended) to discuss the idea whether "Paris, or Munich or the moon exists when one is not looking at it"...or maybe you have already discussed it and I have missed it? @@richardsylvester

"Time and space are an illusion." Do you consider this to be a statement about subjective reality, objective reality, or other?
