  • I've been seeing alot of videos online of people stating when they went to a Dominican Salons the stylists are seeking relaxer into the conditioner. Are Dominican stylists putting relaxers in the conditioner or is the damage coming from extreme heat damage?. In this video ill give my opinion and open the comment section for you to decide.

    Everything said in this video is speculation and for entertainment purposes only!. There have been no confirmed instances of any Dominican stylist putting relaxer in there conditioners and deep conditioners.

    I’m not a relaxer expert, but to me, adding to relaxer to conditioner sounds like a big reach. I think it’s probably just broken bonds in the hair. My best hair stylist to this day was Dominican and so was my worst. At the end of the day, there are many bad and good hair stylists across the board.

    • @TheCurlPapi
      @TheCurlPapi  Год назад +8

      It definitely is a reach but at the same time I’ve heard of some encounters that would leave you with your jaw on the floor, some stylist really be out here fcking up people’s hair. I was seeing some videos on TikTok and girls were really out here saying the conditioner smelled like chemicals and was burning but at the same time I’m like and you allowed that sh*t to go on your head and left it in? Who’s really to blame when all the red flags were there?. 💯 percent agree with you across the board there are good and bad stylist no matter the race, religion and gender.

    Señor you Went hard on this topic! I get it though & I agree with you 100%!
    When I was younger & I was getting my hair relaxed my mom would take me to the salon on a Saturday morning & literally spend all day there getting our hair done. When I tell you my scalp,ear,neck & hair would not only burned but sore as hell 😳😢
    So at a young age I started straightening & relaxing my own hair. I refused to pay someone to treat me & my hair like crap & be completely dissatisfied.
    & yes I know Dominicans are known for the “silk press” the straighter the hair the better type of hair! But times are changing & because of that our stylist they need to get with the program & re-education themselves on how to take care of our hair vs killing our hair.
    Thank you for your videos!!!!

      Every other video I’ve been seeing is people shitting on Dominican stylists I had to go in 🤣. No but seriously there are sooooo many “stylists” that are just in in for the $ and don’t give a crap about the care of someone’s hair (every industry has rotten apples) but when it comes to destroying someone’s hair SHAME on you hair is so such a personal and emotional thing for people and for “stylists” to just be out here not giving a f*ck is unacceptable.

    I feel some people are getting heat damage too but assume it’s from chemicals because it’s an easy excuse to use..also as far as a stylist of you can’t do everyone hair it’s ok to say I’m sorry I’m not experienced in this department and recommend someone else of you know can do a better job..cause really you can sue for this..I think a lot of stylists do this cause they don’t want to admit they aren’t capable of doing specific hair or styles

    • @TheCurlPapi

      This entire comment 💯. There’s so many stylist who that are just about the money and rather than send the client to someone who can do their hair properly would sit there and damage their hair instead. Depending your neighborhood or county the salon industry is big but small everyone pretty much knows everyone (well at least in bushwick where I’m from) the amount of times my mom has referred someone or has been sent a client by someone because of specific skill sets, that’s called really listening and knowing your capabilities.

    I went to a Dominican Salon, asked for a deep conditioner and smelled a strong scent. Most often they don’t speak clear English and there is a break down in communication. I got my hair braided a couple weeks later. When removing the braids the stylist noticed my hair was dead, it still had chemicals in it 4 weeks later!!! It’s now Been 6 months and my hair follicles must be permanently damaged. This is horrible service.

    Pero I don’t understand why they would do it. It’s not going to get them returning customers.
    Me parece absurdo. Feels more like sabotage than cost saving or anything else. No me puedes decir que relaxer is cheaper for the stylists than deep conditioner.

    • @TheCurlPapi
      @TheCurlPapi  Год назад +4

      Sometimes some stylists don’t even care for returning customers especially if they want to cater to a specific clientele. For some it’s work as fast as you can and a lot of Dominicans don’t want to deal with type 4 hair. The amount of times my mom has given trials and never hired someone for her shop because they said some reckless racist sh*t about a kinkier texture would shock you. In my honest opinion I really truly think it’s extreme heat damage but I’ve also heard and seen sooo much f*cked up shit that goes on in Dominican salons I wouldn’t be surprised.

When I get my braids done, it's like their priority is 100 percent the hairstyle looking good for their insta, and the health of my hair is of zero interest to them. @The Curl Papi I used to get my natural hair straightened 2 years ago but once the pandemic came I heat damaged my hair because the salons was close in NYC, once it open back up my hair got healthy again then I went back to relaxers. However, my scalp is too sensitive for relaxers so I big chop and went back natural for the 4th time. I have. 4c hair, I prefer straight because it’s more convenient and less maintenance for me. Also my hair grew a lot when my hair was straight natural and was healthy.

    I live in NYC and went to an excellent Dominican stylist for over 15 years when I had a short cut. While I never relaxed my 3C 4A hair she made sure my wash n set came out straight with bounce everywhere . Now that I wear my hair long and curly I haven’t gone back because it’s not her specialty. All that to say you know what Dominican stylists are known for so you know what it is. When I want my hair straight again I’ll go back to her. Now the relaxer issue that’s just a different level of shadiness.

    Oh my god!!!! I smelled it but I was so tired I didn’t realize until I washed my hair and it was really smelling like chemicals - like a relaxer - I have went to the same place so many times. I did not expect that at all. I was 5 years regrowing my hair naturally after I had the same tragic issue with devacurl in 2019 after 6 years natural again so now I am really sad and traumatized! I don’t know what to do because now I have to wait again years before my curls grow back again ! Like WTF ! Every time I washed my hair (5 times) since the blowout my hair are silky but when they dry it’s just a weird feeling. They should give me a lot of money back or free services until they grow back. I think it is ignorant and/or unfair to deem Dominican Hair salons as "damaging" or "deceitful" because of a BAD STYLIST. There are bad professionals in every area, specially when lots of them are not even professionals.
    Educate yourself before going to a salon. Read reviews, check out their qualifications, and yes Ask Questions. I don't go to any salons unless they're Dominican, or Boricua (Dominican Trained).
    There are so many people out there passing as stylists and know nothing about hair. All I'm saying is before defamating a whole nationality, make sure you are not going to a snake salesperson pretending to be a stylist.
