Slick move hiding the head unit behind the iPad. I have never seen anyone do that. They usually throw it in the glove box, or under the seat. Very good use of space.
SIIIIIIICK!!!!! I know what I'm doing to my sonata next!!! It looks amazing and flawless!!! I cant believe how good it looks... I think it looks better than the factory touch screen head unit. Wow!!! Good job!!!
Scott Schramm. You did what I was dreaming about doing for the last few years. What I don't get, is why there is no manufactures taking advantage of creating a docking station for autos? I know they can't do docking stations for all the tablets but they could make them for the most popular brands.
I agree, I wish they would make something universal but I assume there would be too many regulations due to safety so its easier if they just build their own crappy system so they can lock down the features.
Scott, the commands on the ARC for ballance and for sub work at all? On mine works only for front... have pac interface too.. I’m gladly if you assist me my what’s +55 55 984021045 from Brazil thanks
Correct, the PAC only takes in the front left and right signals but then duplicates them to the front and rear so if you move the fader to the rear, you'll only hear the sub play (if you have one connected directly into your head unit) However there is a workaround if you need to adjust the level of sound between the front and back. You'll need a PC and PAC's configuration software. Connect the PAC module to your PC and within the software you can adjust the fader and also an EQ if you want. I messed around with these settings but found the defaults actually sounded the best.
I have a Bluetooth controller on my steering wheel for my car and then a blue tooth to aux connected as well, makes a nice option for having music in a car with no steering wheel control or native BT built in
Yeah I had one of those BT steering wheel controllers when I first started out because the factory BT didn't support track changes and whatnot. Then I upgraded to the Pioneer with the RadioPro interface and now the OEM steering wheel controls work perfectly
Scott I talked to fifield and had the same kit made. It should be here tomorrow. Only difference is that I chose a pioneer head unit with no CD player. Hopefully this will mean I don't have to cut anything like you did. I have never installed car stereos or disassembled a dash so I will likely reach out to you if it's ok. Also bought the two PAC spdif and 4.2-HY11 units. Don't know what else I'll need
John Phipps I got all the parts but I haven't started taking my console apart. I'm definitely feeling a bit worried about having to cut parts behind the current console or screwing something up
Could you give a breakdown of which apps you used and how you set it all up? Including the turn off when the car turns off. And maybe show split screen options. Thanks
You will need to have a jailbroken iPad for most of those features. Activator is the app on Cydia which allows most of those functions. I was going to make a video on this exact topic and do have some video already recorded but haven't had the time yet to download everything and edit it together.
That can be done without a jailbreak. Just go into the iOS settings and under Facetime there is an option that needs enabled on both the iPhone and iPad and then the calls will be shared.

I’m in the process of installing a iPad in my 64 Chevelle and was wondering if I put the head unit in the trunk can I operate everything through the arc software or will there be a lot of adjustments to be made in the trunk? Thanks
I hardly ever access the head unit or the ARC app only because 99% of the time I'm using the iPad and steering wheel buttons to control. I pretty much never use the FM radio or CD player. I also never adjust the settings now that I have the EQ and everything dialed into my liking.
I like the fabrication and the install. But you should make a video about the app and the radio. Why you chose the Pioneer over an Alpine, Do other radio manufacturers make apps like Pioneer Arc?

I am not sure what I will do when I decide to sell the car. I have all the factory gear so I could always revert if it needed, but like you said, I think this would actually increase the value of the car, but only for a private sale. That’s a bummer. Do you hook it up to an amp, or straight to speakers? Any time alignment tweaks you did to your system? I currently use an android headunit, but it really is a mess sound and stability wise.

I can't change the volume with two fingers like you did.... I watched some videos on this.. And some said that it works and others said that it doesn't.... Can you help
I think only cretin head units support volume control. If you search for the app on the App Store, they have a list of the models and what features each one supports. Personally I find that never really use the ARC app for music playback, the double-finger twisting for volume is more of a party trick to me, I just use my steering wheel controls instead.
Absolutely excellent job my friend I love the video I have a very quick question I have the new iPad 9.7 inch 2018 model will this work for that model and if so please let me know where I can get all the materials thank you so much buddy.
The newer 9.7" iPad should work just fine as they are the same size as the iPad Air 2 that I used. Here are the parts you will need: PAC RP4.2-HY11: www.crutchfield.com/S-G5EAUBPWQcg/p_541RP4HY11/PAC-RP4-2-HY11-Wiring-Interface.html PAC RPA-SPDIF: www.amazon.com/RPASPDIF-RP4-2-HY11-RP4-2-HY12-RP5-2-HY11-RP5-2-HY12/dp/B01E4YXPM2 Dash Kit: www.ebay.com/itm/GPS-Navigation-Housing-Finish-Cover-For-Hyundai-SONATA-i45-2011-2014-/120940986929
Do you use Maestro or Idatalink to retain the steering wheel controls? I have a 2012 sonata and the only thing I need is the adapter to retain the steering wheel controls
its not bad just because the UI beats apple car play and android auto since you have a full tablet experience. it looks like a great mod. Im wondering my they don't start using huge screens like tesla
hey scott i really really like this build i subscribed watched all your videos, the fabrication part is what is iffy for me and how did you get the ipad jail broken?
Super sleek set up.. thanks for the videos.would love this on my truck and I am getting started pretty soon... other than the calls do you have any issues with music or anything else at all?? I assume you still able to answer phone calls because your phone is connected to the radio and also have steering control??? Thanks in advance.
Your phone can be connected directly to the head unit, or if you have iOS it will "share" the call from one device to another (that part doens't always work) but as far as playing music that always works well and yes I have the steering wheel controls are integrated to the head unit via the adapter from PAC.
Scott Schramm thank you for replying so quickly. I do have ios can’t wait to get started. I was looking at some videos about the pioneer control app and the guy was saying that volume control did not work on the phone or tablet that it had to be manually done at the stereo unit or steering controls (which I do have) I saw you playing with different tracks and eq but didn’t notice if you have volume controls in the tablet . I was also looking at similar Kenwood radios hope you can do a review on them before I start my project.. again thank you 🤙
@0:16 you can see me use two fingers and "twist" to turn up the volume. I never use that though as I just push the buttons on my steering wheel since it works all the time, where as the on screen volume control only works if you use the ARC app to play your music.
Hmm you must have a GLS model. You might have to do something custom in order to retain that, or maybe you can relocate it in the space below the AC controls/pocket.

Hi Ashish, for the Elantra (depending on the year of it) the iPad Air may be too big. You will likely need to do an iPad mini in horizontal orientation
Hello all well? I am Brazilian and I will be in Orlando next month, I loved the equipment that you installed, will I be able to conquer one of my trips? Did you buy yours?
Yes everything should fit and work the same way in the SE model, but I don't think you'll need the SPDIF adapter unless you special ordered it with the Dimension sound system. Normally the SE only has the standard stereo system so your speaker hook ups should be right where the head unit it instead of in the trunk.
Is there a setup video? I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5s and I have an iPad and extra dash kit and want to do this but don’t know how I will be able to play the music and such through the car.
My iPhone basically mirrors the calls to all my other devices signed into the same Apple ID so they all ring at the same time, and then I can answerer any one I want.
I have Activator setup to lock the screen when power from the lighting cable is removed. You need to have a Jailbroken iOS device in order to do this. The app is available within Cydia.
Scott Schramm yes, just like these. The issue is that the iPad appear not listen well when it sync with ARC. Without sync with arc Siri listen my voice. Very strange...
When you activate Siri, the bluetooth profile changes from a "music streaming mode" into a "phone call mode" so that it can use the microphone. When this happens, sometimes the first second of audio is not heard. (in this case, the "doo do" noise from Siri). I've found that even though it may not make the tone, once the music fades out just start talking and it should pick up. Now the other thing to check is the volume. Like I mentioned before about the different bluetooth modes, they have different volume amounts. So even if you can hear music but when you switch to voice, you may need to turn that one up. The final test is to make a Bluetooth phone call (even with your phone if needed) to verify that the mic is connected and picked up sound well. I hope one of these things fixes the issue yours is having!
Please let me know how you managed to get the ARC app to work on your iPad? I thought it was iPhone only? I tried installing on my iPad but the screen size is reduced. I've contacted pioneer but no response. Thank you in advance.
Yeah, its a shame Pioneer can't make an official iPad app. For now you have to change the search mode in the app store to "iPhone" and then ARC will appear in the search results. Once installed it will either run small (1X) or really big and pixilated (2X). To get it to fill the screen, your iPad needs to be jailbroken so you can install "PerfectFit". It won't be perfect, but it will be better. There are some UI elements that will be off center, cut off, or overlapping others, but overall I think its better then the default. Hope that helps!
I did consider that option in this video: ruclips.net/video/Kfc__VGeM2U/видео.html CarPlay is still very restrictive (although getting better) so I still prefer having the iPad because I can use any app I want.
Scott Schramm wow just watched your other video, I always kind thought it would be cool to do an install and have seen a few videos of people doing it, but wow you went over all the pros and cons and actually got it done ! I’ll be stuck with a CD mount for my iPad..as much as I would like to do the full proper install it would be to big of project for me /: I started to look into just installing a my google speaker in my car, but then it wouldn’t run through all my speakers
This is dope. I’m looking into buying a 2014 sonata myself. Are you able to use video apps like RUclips and if so, how are you able to watch videos full screen with the portrait(vertical)setup?
Question about the head unit itself. My current Kenwood will automatically switch to HD radio if the station I have preset simulcasts on the same frequency. Does this Pioneer do that or is HD Radio a completely different source than FM/AM? Also when you cycle through your FM presets will it automatically go from FM1 to FM2 to FM3 or does it just cycle through the 6 presets on the current band(aka FM1)? Thanks for the info and this is a great install!
I tested the FM radio and when pressing "next"/"previous" it only cycles through presets 1-6 of the band you are in (FM1 for example) It does not automatically go from FM1-6 to FM2-1. You can however press the "back/band" button to quickly switch between FM1, FM2, AM, etc. you could also program this button to one on your steering wheel if you use it often. In regards to the HD radio tuning, it will automatically tune from FM to HD. There is also a setting to turn this off. I can't remember if its on by default, so you may need to enable it inside of the "function" menu. Bonus: there is also an option to "block" FM stations and have it only seek/scan HD stations. Note that you'll need strong reception in order for this to work well. Hope this helps and sorry for the delay in getting back to you!
How did u get the Hyundai interface to still work? I just bought a 2017 sonata limited yesterday. Looks pretty similar on the interior. My 1st new car in 12 years. U have had good luck with ur sonata? Couldn't beat the warranty 😊
My Sonata has been great. A lot of people had issues with the engines failing in the 2011's but they have had a lot of recalls to prevent it. I've had no major issues with mine. Links to the interface are in the video description.
@ScottSchramm you did a amazing job wow ..only if I had time to do it myself . Sheeesh clean and nice . I'm in Oklahoma and it's hard to get custom work done. I subscribed
Great question. I've only had it warn about over heating once and when it did, it just shut off the screen. Music still played and navigation alerts still worked. After 5-10 mins with the screen off it cooled down enough and worked fine since. I have tinted windows so that helps a lot :)
Update: now that its peak summer, I will say on the very hot days of leaving my car parked outside at work causes the iPad to overheat and not function for a while. It takes a while for the AC to cool down inside the car and then it starts working again. I've tried putting those sun covers in my front windshield but found the best thing is to just remove it from the dash.
On the very hot days of leaving the car parked outside it causes the iPad to overheat and not function for a while. Sometimes music and navigation will still work, but with the screen off. It takes a while for the AC to cool down the inside of the car, but then it will start working normally again. The best thing to do is just remove it out of the dash if you plan on parking in the sun for any length of time. Same goes for winter time in below freezing weather.

Here are the parts you will need:

Do you use Maestro or Idatalink to retain the steering wheel controls? I have a 2012 sonata and the only thing I need is the adapter to retain the steering wheel controls
Friend Acott which application you use to interact music and radio on the screen q you turn to volume?
@0:11
Could you post a link for the Pioneer ARC app, I cannot find it in the App Store
You have to change the filter to "iPhone Only" instead of iPad
its not bad just because the UI beats apple car play and android auto since you have a full tablet experience. it looks like a great mod. Im wondering my they don't start using huge screens like tesla
Isauro Banuelos Do you know the name of the UI he’s using?
hey scott i really really like this build i subscribed watched all your videos, the fabrication part is what is iffy for me and how did you get the ipad jail broken?
Scott Schramm awesome thanks !!!!
Any idea if this will work for a 2015 Sonata? I already hand navigation, just want to upgrade.
2015 models and newer have a competently different dash layout which would not work with particular modification.
can this be done if the passenger airbag thing is on the top of the dash instead of side
Hmm you must have a GLS model. You might have to do something custom in order to retain that, or maybe you can relocate it in the space below the AC controls/pocket.
The only problem I have is finding the fabricated mount for it I can’t order it off that website anymore
@@hansreitsma4862 I can't find the exact one that I used, but here are two that look to be pretty close:

@Scott ..... loved the setup you've done ..... Just keen to ask if this setup is possible for elantra?
Hi Ashish, for the Elantra (depending on the year of it) the iPad Air may be too big. You will likely need to do an iPad mini in horizontal orientation
how did you connect your ipad with the head unit? the arc app won´t recognize my ipad, but works perfectly with the iphone! any advice would be great
In the settings on the head unit you have to specify between iOS/Android and USB/Bluetooth.
this is so fucking awesome
Hello all well? I am Brazilian and I will be in Orlando next month, I loved the equipment that you installed, will I be able to conquer one of my trips? Did you buy yours?
I have a 2011 sonata se would that work on my car. I have no back up camera
Check out this playlist of videos which shows more: ruclips.net/p/PLeiKzXHZh57AZUDCOpb88EE2uhQKJbobm
Is there an app to control the fm radio on the iPad? If so, what one? Do you have to set it up with the stereo?
Pioneer ARC. It's shown in the video.
I want this screan from were can i buying
What music player are you using in the beginning where you were able to change the EQ settings
Pioneer ARC
What about if you have a phone and want to connect it to Bluetooth for music
You could certainly pair the phone to the head unit via bluetooth, but I see no point in doing that when you can play anything you want from the iPad.
Scott Schramm yea I want to get this setup I have the same car
Where did you get the airbag Indicator light from?
I removed the OEM airbag module and installed it in the 3rd party dash kit.
@@ScottSchramm the supplemental seatbelts and airbags indacator was from what model car?
@@kashh2564 It's from my 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited. It's the original indicator that came with my car. I re-used it with the new kit.

How are you making the calls work? Are you calling the ipad instead of your cell phone?
My iPhone basically mirrors the calls to all my other devices signed into the same Apple ID so they all ring at the same time, and then I can answerer any one I want.
I thought that functionality was only available on WiFi, or did I misread something?
It can work over cellular.
Scott Schramm how does this work, I can only get this to work over WiFi. How do you setup the shared cellular connection?
@@newchannelnewchannel116 Your phone can make a hotspot or use a mobile data device
Hey man thats awesome, how do you make the ipad turn off when the keys are out? This will help alot! Thanks!
I have Activator setup to lock the screen when power from the lighting cable is removed. You need to have a Jailbroken iOS device in order to do this. The app is available within Cydia.
Hi Scott, my Siri won’t work when I turn on the radio. When turn off it works well. What could be?
How are you trying to activate Siri? Push and hold home button on the iPad? "Hey Siri", or the button on the head unit or steering wheel?
Scott Schramm thanks. Will try tomorrow and post here what happens.
Scott Schramm this helps a ton, thank you!!
Hey man nice video but WHAT HAPPENS TO MY BACK UP CAMERA i really want to get this on my 2014 sonata
ruclips.net/video/WjHvcLF1IHU/видео.html
This is sick
I think a double din with apple car play is probably much easier and more user friendly !
I did consider that option in this video: ruclips.net/video/Kfc__VGeM2U/видео.html
CarPlay is still very restrictive (although getting better) so I still prefer having the iPad because I can use any app I want.
Super clean
OMG THAT IS SOOOOOOOOOO COOL!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!
Where I can buy that screen Tesla???
This is dope. I’m looking into buying a 2014 sonata myself. Are you able to use video apps like RUclips and if so, how are you able to watch videos full screen with the portrait(vertical)setup?
Yes, you can use RUclips or any other video apps. The videos can play full screen. Please just don't watch the videos while driving :)
Wow you lived so close to best buy, nice
I drove to a public park as I didn't want my home to come up on the location current :)
Thanks for the reply. After more research I ended up buying the same head unit. The app is so much better than the Kenwood. Thanks again!
Where did you get the frame for the ipod??

How did u get the Hyundai interface to still work? I just bought a 2017 sonata limited yesterday. Looks pretty similar on the interior. My 1st new car in 12 years. U have had good luck with ur sonata? Couldn't beat the warranty 😊
My Sonata has been great. A lot of people had issues with the engines failing in the 2011's but they have had a lot of recalls to prevent it. I've had no major issues with mine. Links to the interface are in the video description.
Which brand and link is this. And is this a hybrid or gls sonata ??? Link to buy

Are you having any heat issues keeping the iPad installed on the dash in direct sunlight?
Great question. I've only had it warn about over heating once and when it did, it just shut off the screen. Music still played and navigation alerts still worked. After 5-10 mins with the screen off it cooled down enough and worked fine since. I have tinted windows so that helps a lot :)
Update: now that its peak summer, I will say on the very hot days of leaving my car parked outside at work causes the iPad to overheat and not function for a while. It takes a while for the AC to cool down inside the car and then it starts working again. I've tried putting those sun covers in my front windshield but found the best thing is to just remove it from the dash.
bro please tell me how you did this I will pay big money for help doing this 765 610 six 331
Scott Schramm The heat is destroying that poor iPad
Does it ever mess up during the summer? I imagine it can very easily get above 100F in direct sunlight with the windows up
On the very hot days of leaving the car parked outside it causes the iPad to overheat and not function for a while.
