I have managed to find 20% more power! Or I had not got 100% to begin with...

  • I keep improving the car, and it is a right laugh to drive. Managed to find a couple of bugs in my throttle code - one was causing slight hesitations at full throttle and the other was losing me 20% power.

    Funny you mention that you want to have the sound synced with the video and you want to hear an RX-8. Maybe with the rotary motor, but given its electric and one of the perks (My opinion, sure other don't share it) of an electric car is how quiet it is especially compared to an ICE. I would be happy to see footage of it moving and driving with no sound since it should be relatively silent

      Yeah, but no EV is silent - they all have a 'whine' and hum to them. The RX8 sounds brilliant as it has that, and then also the gearbox noise. I love it lol

    Great update, the car looks fantastic, I'm sure it gives you a real kick driving it and you should be very proud of your achievements.
    How easy is it to change gear without a clutch?
    Do you have regen as soon as you lift the throttle as in single pedal driving or is it activated some other way like the brake pedal?
    Did you mange to sort out heating?
    What are the plans for the future?

      Hay thanks, it is a rush driving around. The RX8 gearbox is awesome, changing gear under average torque is smooth as having a clutch. If you go heavy footed it is a bit clunky. Not sure if its easy as the motor is free spinning unlike an ICE that has a lot of resistance. No regen atm - need to see if I can add that in / how to! Have all the bits to add heating, but it involves taking the front bumper off, which means not driving the car about, which sucks!

      I have a rough idea of weight, I think she is about 50-75kg heavier overall. So a bit like having a passenger all the time.

    Hi Dave, have you got the bms communicating with the inverter? I'm just trying to figure out what bits can be substituted easily

      They are on the same canbus yes. Not sure they really talk to each other tho!

    Hi Dave, Well done on even more progress!
    Well I'm finally starting the ev journey, sort of. I've joined the local constructors car ckub and got some good direction on where to start with ensuring I can legally do the conversion.
    Do you have have a system diagram of how you connected and controlled everything? I've been looking at the open inverters kits but kind of like your approach better.

      Thats great to hear! I dont really have anything documented ;o/ Once I had done the initial bench R&D that got it all working, I have just planned on the fly!

      To be honest 4th gear is as far as you need to go. That’s good for 120mph which I doubt the motor could do.
