There ARE NO TURKS in INDO-EUROPEAN ANATOLIA It is South Asian Indus style dance mixed with Indo-European West Asian dance style. Because the Roma and Sinti and any others from these groups are South Asian people who immigrated to Indo-European WEST ASIA
Beautiful and unique dancing Bravo...Romani or Roma or Rom=Gypsys and means In Indo-Aryan language husband or man...There are 500,000 Gypsys in Turkey at least some sources say it's 5 million...and Gypsys=Rajasthan=India...
@beledigirl3 I'm also not quit sure what it means but in my opinion it is something like "Eat this!" or "I hope you will crush!". As you can see it is the gesture of crushing down something. Also in non verbal communication in Turkey we use this gesture if we don't like somebody or envy a person.
@TheMrKoray :) ahhh, since you mentioned Ataturk's words, allow me to translate them correctly: "HOW HAPPY HE/SHE IS WHO CALL HIMSELF/HERSELF A TURK!" Selamlar from a bulgarian turk ;)
@escosamir we are proud of our gypies(and kurds lazs bosnians albanians arabs) they are part of our country. thats why we have a idiom WHAT HAPPY WHO SAYS I'M A TURK!!!!it doesnt matter if you are not geneticly Turk!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ArmenianFootball: As long as you are in the USA please remember remarks like this hurt us! Look I know what happened during WWI. Its time to let go! I have American Indian Blood in me. I could hate everyone around me or let it go and move on. I choose to move on! Remember a Soldier's duty is to obey his superiors comands. Turk's are not a bad people!
I love this, love Turkish music too. I'm learning about this so forgive my question but what is that gesture where they look like they are beating on themselves? I noticed the men and the women both do this hand gesture, like beating on their hips etc... Does that represent somethings, does it have an origin? Just curious. Thanks.
Interesting video, thanks whoever put this up. have to say tho, The Gypsies i saw in Turkey were very much poorer than the people in this vid, i know rich and poor in all societies.. The dancing? I've seen very similar in Ireland (gadje) and the Spanish Rom style is almost identical, like i say its interesting. Thanks again and Kushti bokt

ya I ve noticed that ! it s cool anyways - it is just strange for me at first, the pelvic movements by the man :)) it s really suggestive for Arab taste, but i guess for Turks also - AT FIRST. of course it s really nice though :)
Though a guy, he does a lot of moves I associate with Belly Dance by women. I will guess it's just Turkish and I've only seen the women's dance. At the end with the barefoot woman, I will guess this is a gypsy sell of an older/local folk dance.
HEy! Armenian Football: Don't you know that Romanes ( language of Rroma/Gypsies) has A LOT of loan words from Armenian. In actuality , Rroma are genetically closer to us Hyes than ethnic Turks ..anyhow, the point is, this is good dance..and I don;t see how your denigrating words advances hye tad at all --look at our own Posha Lom in hayasdan...or do you not know fo the history between Lom/Posha ( armenian "gypsies") and Armenians-or how they fared during the genocide--guess what? they died too,
Watch up what you're saying Armenian!! thats totally insult of races and its serious. This site isnt some kind of politic site for that kind of polemics so just respect the rules or leave it if you cant behave yourself as a human
Unfortunately it's not Gypsy (Travelers from Egypt), which is always a source of confusion. The official term is Romani for these groups in Turkey. They originate from South East Asia.
you cant tell me you re a Kurd with all the Turks have done to the Kurds, tried to eradicate their language and identity, fight them in Anatolia and Northern Iraq, killing civilians and children at demonstrations, rape of Kurdish women (Turkey as a country was convicted for rape by security forces at the European Court of Human Rights), etc. I am not Kurd, but my husband is, so do not pretend to be a Kurd sorani i do not believe you.. but romani style is great.
Those Turkish Dancers are always so acrobatic & full of energy!

Turks are in fact Roma-Gypsy themselves! Just take a close look at them, they are obviusly similar in appearance!
+Friedrich Kass have you ever met a turk in your entire life? or talking out offfff your ass?
