Finish it off. This game was a huge landmark in demonstrating what the medium was capable of. It's always great to see someone react to it for the first time.

Plus it would not be long only 5 parts or so just a short playlist for 1 of the best games of all time ps it's 16 Colossians not 30 I cringed each time

Each Colossus is an adventure in of itself. Doing it like that would spoil things.
The later ones will take him more time, so I feel like it would be 6-8 parts.

It's interesting to note that it's never explicitly stated what Wander's relationship with Mono (the girl) is. All we know is that she was sacrificed by her people because she had a "cursed fate" and in order to save her he stole an ancient sword and took her to this "Forbidden Land" because it's said that Dormin can bring back the dead if you kill the sixteen colossi. She could be a sibling, a friend, a lover, or just a random girl he never knew and he's only saving her life because it's a quiet Saturday and he's got nothing better to do than stab fifteen mostly-innocent colossi and one rat bastard (Fuck you Dirge) to death.
Wander [to friends]: I heard stories that you can revive someone if you kill the colossi in the forbidden lands.
Wander's friends: Bah! Lies! ...you'd never be able to do something like that..
Wander: Here, hold my beer..

Many A True Nerd Originally there was supposed to be 48 but it waa cut to 24 and later 16 in the final cut.

having a second arena that you climb up expecting to fight a colossus on top of again only for the arena itself to suddenly rear and show itself as the colossus would be cool. also fighting a smaller colossus on the back of a big one would be cool

This is literally my favourite game ever, with Ico a close second. It was a fantastic experience.
Ico is one of the very few games I've ever finished. Great game.This one I didn't even get the second one down.

It is amazing game design. To allow the one percent of people who see the front door, think it is a wall, and try to get through the window. That is not easy from a level design standpoint.
I want Jon to continue this! He's already 1/4 the way done.
So Jon, the generally accepted backstory for the main character and the sword is that he comes from a tribe of people who used to live in the sealed off land the game is set in and worshiped the god that's talking to you. Then they abandoned that god in favor of a new religion and sealed the old god away in the statues and bound them to the colossi. They moved to a new land and practiced a religion that involved human sacrifice. The main character is one of their initiates and sacrificed the girl, then regretted doing it and decided to steal some of the ancient artifacts their church kept and go back to the land of their ancient god to pursue the legend that it could bring people back to life.
Interesting. Is this a fan theory?
legion999 I mean there's no official explanation, but there was a group of fans that analyzed the hell out of both ico and this a while back and picked out a bunch of small details that point to this being the explanation that fits best. I'll see if I can track down a link to the thesis they wrote on it. It's something like 10 pages of analysis if I remember.
I remember playing this on my friend's PS2 and being absolutely blown away by the graphics and scale. I'm glad they've remade this.
I think Jon completely missed the fact that the big and slow things are big and slow and take time to perform actions.
as someone who has played and speedrunned this game many, many times since playastation 2 times it was extremely enjoyable to watch you conquer the (16, not 30) colossusses .:)
You should try to crouch instead of stand when getting back your Stamina and jump-stabbing also helps many times :)
...and also with L2 you can center the camera on the colossus while you're not aiming

in my top 10 favourite games ever. The best fit of calling a game epic with the sheer scale and spectacle of the boss fights and the story behind it all is so powerful
Its a fairly short game that I would love to see you play. Also there is a flying bit, with a giant flying snake.
I remember playing this on the PS2 when I was much younger, with my little sister watching in awe of the massive creatures and helping me figure out the puzzles. This video brought back many good memories, thank you.
Jon you can better your frame rate by switching to performance mode instead of cinematic mode

I was gonna say this, but you did first.
Incredibly amazing game....easily one of the best games ever. There are only 16 colossi in the game though, not 30, but man is it an absolute joy ride every step of the way. And after beating the game on normal you unlock normal time attack and then you can go NG+ to hard and beat it on hard to unlock hard time attack.....both time attack modes actually reward you significantly better gear including a parachute later in the hard time attacks....and you can use that parachute as well as increased stamina from further NG+ wins to get to a set of 79 secret collectibles which lead to a mind blowing reward.
You're free to hate. But every colossus is an entirely different puzzle and an epic fight of its own from a flying eagle like colossus to sand worm, to lok-ness type lake monster and many more no two are the same. The rules that apply to one don't apply to the next and the game just keeps getting better until its epic conclusion and even that is just the beginning of a long journey before you can hope to touch the game's secrets.
A lot more complex than the Fallout games.....but complexity doesn't always mean better. Nowhere near as complex as an RTS but a lot better than all RTS games ever made.
Don't forget the lizards, Jon. And the fruit.
If you're gonna continue this game, check trees and save shrines for fruit and white-tailed lizards. The fruit increases health and the lizards increase stamina.

The camera acts as it does because it's designed to either point you in the right direction (moving to focus on the bit you can jump and grab to for the colossus on the canopy for example), or to show off gorgeous vistas and scenery to help sell the atmosphere. It's a game that kinda shows you itself without your input which is admittedly different from most games today that expect you to look around yourself.
I feel that Jon will be surprised. The small colossi are probably the hardest ones.

One hint, Jon, when you do use Agro more, you'll benefit from changing your right hand a bit to hold triangle with your index finger so you can gallop, adjust your view with your thumb, and access R1 and R2 with your middle finger if you need it.

The fact that when he can't see you and you're standing in its stone part so he can't feel you he actually doesn't know where you are, is amazing

Jon, when you go to stab the weak spots, watch your stamina meter for the expanding ring of dots that indicate your stab strength level. It seems like you were guessing how long to hold your stab button, so I thought you might be interested. Also, iirc, there are trees throughout the area that bear fruit, and if you shoot the fruit down with your bow and pick it up it can grow your health bar.
Please make this into a series!! Also if your frame rate is low you may have a film video setting on.
To be fair, I don't think framerate is really that important as long as its ~30+, I think developers focus too much on technical aspects of the games, rather than enhancing the actual gameplay. There is tonnes of beautiful games that are fairly sparse in terms of actual game. EAs Battlefront games are insanely pretty but are shit in content, for example.
A big part of the game is it's mysterious amd you have to piece the backstory together. Hence you know nothing about the forbidden lands or Wanda or the girl.

Jon, 30 colossi is how many were planned for the original game, but due to budget and system constraints the final game just had 16. I imagine the remaster wasn't able to restore the 14 incomplete bosses and their areas. Also keep an eye out for small glowing lizards.

I love the fact that there are so many ways to defeat most of these colossi. Go watch some speed runs of these things, they are phenomenal. Especially number 3. Watching people catapult off of his sword straight onto his head is, and I hate using this word, epic.
I am amazed at how Jon fails miserably to reach every collosus' weak point the way the game intends him to... and yet he finds a way to do it every time! I am laughing so hard

This is weird though, the first colossus shouldn't turn hostile unless you attack it first or climb it. Did they change it? Also, Jon, after stabbing the leg you can climb up its back, those armored ridges can be grabbed, you didnt have to go on the arm. That perception score, eh? And no, the black tentacles are coming out of you on the level of your belly, not crotch.

The glowing cracks are not weak points, they just grant access to weak points when stabbed
Technically, the glowing cracks literally are the weak points and the fancy glowing bits are "vitals".

I'd definitely like to see you play more. The next colossus, Avion, is my second favorite; Second to Phalanx (13th Colossus) of course. Additionally, there's only 16 Colossus, so the game is nice and short!
Personally, I think the camera work is beautiful. It's there to show you where to go in as graceful way as possible. It wouldn't be the same game if you were stuck looking at the character's butt the entire game, it tries to make it a cinematic experience. It also always tries to focus on you so that's why there are some weird shots too.
