- Michael Heseltine, former Conservative Deputy Prime Minister, on BBC Newsnight (Thursday 19 October 2017), gives his opinion on Brexit, the Brexit negotiations, the position of The European Union and member states, the European vision, the threat of a Labour and Corbyn government, The Conservative Party, Theresa May, and the divide in society.
Old school. He is a world class. Shame we don't have politicians like him anymore.
Of course people don't like to hear what Hesseltine is saying but so be it.I'm no Tory but on this subject Hesseltine is spot on.
What he says is certainly true. Even if people don't like to hear it....
like lemmings running of a cliff without critical thinking what are we doing just follow the leader
Why is the truth always bitter in taste?
Watching these 'interviews' these days compared to ones conducted by Sir Robin et al shows whats wrong with the Headline ,140 character reality we live in. No real interest in substance just get a headline to spin on Twitter
Dave Cross very true.
My God they seemed surprised at what he says. The whole of Europe knows this.
Why is it that people like Heseltine, who have spent practically a lifetime in politics have such difficulty accepting the outcome of a democratic vote? It beggars belief.
100% true
So basically he's saying the EU will be in bigger trouble (dissolution) if UK leaves successfully, surely that means UK has the upper hand and therefore the argument he makes about UK needing EU more is *illogical*. UK actually holds the cards and EU is in a desperate struggle to save itself.
Amy Wheelwright The UK doesn’t have the upper hand because only the EU can agree the eventual terms of the relationship. What he’s saying is that it’s in the EU’s interest to agree a deal that is worse than the full membership the UK has today, the UK can’t cherry pick various aspects of membership.
Im struggling to see how this means the UK holds any cards. As they can’t force through a favourable deal. Maybe you can explain?

WE the UK were not told what the outcome of being in the EU would be when we joined. Now we want out the media is shouting us down! we were lied to about how many members there would be. N Kinnock and his ilk want to secure their jobs and pensions that is why him and his cronies want to stay, pensions for the boyos!
Mrs May is the Black Knight in Monty Python & the Holy Grail...
"Tis but a scratch!"
Can the UK not invade Europe again? Make the Europeans British subjects and get them to pay the severance sum?
After all, the man toppled MT...
So what? Does he not have the right to disagree?
Also because of what I am saying, he certainly does.
He is the man who had heart attack to get out of answering questions about his gun dealing!
What the hell has Heseltine done to his hair? ....it's usually white/grey! The Trump-look is not one I think should be emulated.
Heseltine receives an annual farming subsidy of £90,000 from the EU. No wonder he wants to stay, he might also miss out on his EU pension.
Only individuals that have been elected, appointed, or worked for an EU institution or body, receive a pension from the EU. Michael Heseltine has never been elected, appointed, or worked for an EU institution or body. So perhaps you could acknowledge that fact, because you're wrong.
vote was out get on with it.
you cant see what EU is its not nice
