Not drummer here, but a songwriter, and I have come to appreciate how much changing the accent on the hhats changes the feel of the whole beat. Here, the snare hits sound so different in every hh variation, yet they’re the same. BTW, drummers, THIS is what we want 1st in a drummer: solid rhythm, and control of the basics. If you can nail an awesome drum break, great, but unless it is in the pocket, it don’t mean diddley. Thanks for this. And thanks to the percussionists who hold us scraggly musicians together in a tune.
Love that your commitment to drumming includes finding any place needed to practice that doesn't involve evictions or driving neighbors to commit acts of violence. 😂
Always appreciate the means to getting better by changing accents and articulations. It's a subtle nuance that can change everything about a song and its drumming. Cheers man
This is a great lesson. Thx! I turned into more of a workout by reversing the ride part to my non-lead left hand (leaving it on the snare or the hi hat) and hitting all accents. Whew!
As a beginner, Iwas looking for some tips on how to improve on the HiHat and found this channel. After browsing many of your videos here I just had to subscribe! Really like your style and the not too long but still very helpful lessons. Great stuff!
Thanks to this video, you've got a brand new subscriber. So cool, easy to understand and fun - exactly what I needed! 😊 Cheers from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 🤙🏻🥁 PS: Love the hair colour 💙

The hair.... i cant
You don’t have to
Nice grooves, terrible hair
Totally unnecessary comment
I think you played twice the number of bars you could have...got boring
You know you can fast forward on RUclips, right?
