    When you are digging don’t put so much down pressure on the bucket because if you hit something in the ground you will completely bend everything that is connected to the bucket. So if you want to dig a hole make it at a gradual slope and if you are going to dig down don’t lift up the tracks of the machine and don’t spin the tracks at full throttle when you have that much down presser on the boom and hydraulics.

    • @bambihall169
      @bambihall169 3 года назад +16

      Tbh if you wanna dig, get a mini, skids aren't a digging tool, they are a moving tool more than anything.

    • @garymurt9112
      @garymurt9112 3 года назад +3

      The correct procedure for skid steer is to put the boom completely down to the stops then tilt the bucket down to cut. Now you only want to cut a little like you only want the cutting edge one inch below level. The reason for putting the boom completely down is there is stops that help lock the boom to the machine in the front reducing the spring in the boom frame and most sideways movement. If you have the correct matched bucket on the machine, placing the boom completely down, when you curl down the bottom of the bucket should sit completely flat on the ground with a little down pressure. That puts everything in plane and allows you to cut to grade level.

    • @garymurt9112
      @garymurt9112 3 года назад +2

      Otherwise your recommendation about not spinning the tracks and not spinning the tracks is correct.
      Skid steer sounds complicated to explain till you actually get the hang of using them correctly then things become pretty clear once you understand everything.

    What a beast! I always enjoy operating machinery like this and those joystick controls are so much easier than the old pedal style controls.
    Just don’t be disappointed when you find yourself slipping all over the place with those tracks in wet weather. They’re great at spreading your weight over a large surface area and not sinking in mud but the large surface area also means very little pressure downwards in any one spot. Combine the lack of downforce with rubber tracks on wet grass and you’ll find yourself sliding to the bottom of hills if you’re not careful. I’ve seen it happen with machines this size and if you get it stuck, it can be a nightmare to get it back out.
    Wait, you have a 5 ton with a huge winch.

      Or a compact tractor like kubota b01 series ($12k new - cheaper used) or mid-size lx at $17k or a cab+a/c lx at $25. All 3 - can get a rear backhoe attachment, front bucket and forks attachment, and even a pull mower all could be useful for Matt. I'd get the mid size but the compact will work - just the backhoe bucket is small and front can't lift a lot with forks but can do a ton of work vs digging holes yourself.

    Not very affordable even used but they are great to have. Our farm actually has an older ScatTrak that has come in very handy. That Bobcat should give you the ability to purchase a lot of aftermarket attachments that will serve you well. My grandfather had an 80s model that had a small backhoe attachment. I also know there are brush hogs that would just eat up those logs and shrubbery in your way. Big auger attachments for fence. Each of those attachments aren't cheap either but mansion owners should be able to afford it. Now your ranch needs a utility building to store/protect them... Good luck!
