Couple of things. - Really happy about not having « programs » anymore. Got used to it but I never liked it. - Arranger view is amazing. - Thank god for submix and output automation. - And on a broader note. I semi-recently got an elektron syntakt. And i love it so much! So i understand people still asking for more like an good visual EQ and i would love a Lufs meter (pls comment if there is one). I love the direction they have taken. I hope they go all in on it. I was actualy going to put my MPC to the side and bring back my computer but this update brings it right back. I feel like almost everyone should be happy. If you want to treat the MPC as an instrument/ hands on sampler you can and if you want to have it replace your DAW you are now closer than ever.
important note that i´ve seen in other videos, you can still kind of use different tracks to the same instrument, if you create a midi track and point it into an internal track. so if you open a Kit on track 1, you can create a midi track on track 2 and still have different tracks play the instrument loaded on track 1. This can be useful for some people :) as for the track mutes between sequences being the same, i guess if you want a sequence to not play some of the tracks, you can just erase the notes on that track on the other sequence. i have been an mpc user for ages, and this re-design i think will improve the workflow by a lot. the fact that the programs had a mute page on their own and then stuff that wasnt being used still appeared on the program page, and we´d have have to fig it out and delete unused programs was a hassle. It now becomes a lot clearer and indirectly much more memory efficient. this was something that the mpcs were needing in order to take it to the next level. track mixer with faders is somthing i never understood why akai didnt implement in previous versions since the tactile screen was the best way to do it. also, effects presets with multiple effects already assigned, etc. I am really looking forward to having this installed. congrats akai.

Great video! I’m using external drummachines and created custom pad MIDI note number layouts for them (a real pita btw in V2) and save them as seperate programs. This way I can load them whenever I need them. The only real problem with these custom layouts is they do not translate to the Grid view! Normally when you hit a pad (if set in preferences) or touch a particular “midi note” (i.e. the pad number) on the touch screen in grid view, it’s events are automatically selected and I use this all the time to “select all” the pad’s events (because in V2 we have no “select all” shortcut). But with custom layouts, hitting the pad does select all the notes but touching the “midi note” (i.e. the pad number in pianoroll grid view) no longer select the notes!! You must manually select them with the rectangle tool….. An even bigger problem is (and I think it’s related) when you want to copy and paste events in grid view: when you copy midi notes from a custom pad, it no longer paste them at the same midi note (i.e. the same pad number) in grid view, but randomly somewhere else, which is very very annoying. Could you check this out for me please? I hope I explained the problem well enough because nobody is covering this in their V3 video’s. Thanks man.
Thank you Marlow for showing and explaining the difference of each process between the MPC 2 & MPC 3. You really helped me to accept the change of MPC 3 😊. However it's 1 thing you said which I was upset with and that's being able to load multiple of programs. I prefer it that way because that's how I audition different sounds for each key group & drum program before I delete the ones I don't need. So I guess I'm kinda stuck on using the MPC 2 for now.
It seems like Akai is essentially taking more of an ableton/force approach in the back end but using the UI to abstract the workflow and package it as an "MPC" workflow? A sequence now is just a scene in ableton/force.
MPC stands for music production center, so from the start it was geared towards linear song production, more than live gigs. This step towrds ver 3 opens for Akai the door to launch a phrase based machine, more geared towards live music (groovebox), a competitor to the sp404 mkii. The best of all would be an integration of that new groovebox with their EngineDJ. Once you start working with stems you need a strong live oriented product to handle live flipping of phrases.
Okay the first thing you are showing. That all sequences always have the same tracks. I love it. It was always a struggle for me on MPCs to keep track of my track in each sequence and to "sync" them properly. With 3.0 this will be non issue. LOVE IT!!!
@@DavidBulczak this is a minus for me. I think they need to have an option to link for people like you who love this and an unlink setting for people like me who appreciate the old way. We should all be happy.

@@midipaul229 it definitely is. 6:53 old track-mutes gone is fine. But are the PAD-Mutes now remembered with changing sequences? Thats a feature I was looking for since 2019, cuz that would fit my live performance methods. In the old version a muted pad was global, so if I wanted to set up different sequences with preselected pad-mutes it didnt work. They were not saved per sequence. Thnx =)
Thanks god... Akai started to listening customers. It might be first user friendly device from Akai ever. Now even die hard logik fans got your attention 👍
This pad filter that shows the pads that are triggered in the sequence is the best improvement. Said that the program is gone. It is a quick way to try different beat etc with a pattern.
Hi! Great vid! I think while on the arranger/grid, you can change tracks with a shortcut (dont remember which but i believe long press something) and you will get the screen to show all tracks and you just click it to edit that track.... hope you can find it out :)
Nah! lol the greatest thing Akai did with the MPC X is remove the computer. Abelton and Logic require you to see first hear 2nd. (its an MPC 3000 thing) lol
One thing I'd like to see is loading old projects so we can see if there's a difference like will it convert everything automatically from previous MPCs(2000, 3000, 60, MPC 2.0, etc...) of the past into the new 3.0 workflow or will it just drop some of the things and forget the automations on tracks, etc... my guess is it'll convert for you but it's only a guess because track mutes is gone as of now
Im a bit confused. Insread of eplode tracks i use different tracks from the start with the same program. So now i have to load the same program for everytime instead just once ? Doesnt that affect the memory that way ? And can i stil audit different presets of a plugin on the same track ?
I think your first assumption is right. Thus as soon as you explode a track, each of the new tracks will have an instance of a drum program in 3.0. But that shouldn't affect memory too much since programs are just collections of parameter settings. These programs will still share/reference the same samples which are the actual parts that need memory.
A lot of people who are comfortable with MPC will probably not like it, at least for a while, but I think these changes overall will prove to be huge workflow improvements. As long as they keep it from being too buggy and bogged down.
@@mpchead Yeah, man I can totally get that. My guess is this: A large portion of the MPC market are people who have been on the MPC platform for years. There is a returning customer base, but they're probably seeing a huge market they're missing out on because their UI and design philosophy has been geared towards something that is, at this point, essentially outdated. I'm guessing that market analysis demands for changes to be made and there are more possibilities for new customers vs. simply maintaining an aging customer base based on sticking to a UI for the sake of familiarity. I understand both angles, to some extent. I grew up with MPCs, but I took a 10 year break and when I came back I was actually disappointed that so much was the same haha. I learned to enjoy it, but it always felt like modern MPCs have an internal conflict between modern and classic that causes friction.
Just finished the video. Great overview. Thank you very much. Now I can not wait to get hands on 3.0 even more :D One question. Can you explain or show in one of your upcoming videos how the navigation buttons of the X (SE) work in the new main mode and other screens as well?
If I’m understanding correctly. The tracks are identical in each sequence. When you add a track it carries over to each sequence… but what about the type of track? Like track one is a plugin on the first sequence. But on sequence 2 you have to have the same plugin on track one? Or can you change it without it affecting the other sequences… hope I explained it clearly
Thank you Marlow!! I'm gonna wait for the full release, then like one month for the bug fixes :D Then yeah, there goes a big learning curve because I dumb. The old projects line up smoothly on this version?
@@PeteOnTheBeatSame, a big part of my workflow is making a few sequences and flipping between them in track mutes and figuring out where to drop things in and out. Applying the same mutes through the whole track seems counter productive and a backward step especially if it's gonna break old projects
Does each track in a sequence have the same length? For example if I have a snare and a kick can i loop the snare for 4 bars and kick for 8 bars or they both would have to be the same.
Is clip program still functionning as before ? I'd love if they could insert follow action .. it would enable great live performance possibilities. The new mixer is great and arrangement view feels very Daw alike. 🎉
Yes. I've watched other videos. It will give us the capability to adjust the parts around in the arranger. Check out the Akai Pro youtube with Andy Mack. He goes over all the features thus far.
No more mutes on sequences, no more clip tracks atm....no more audio or fx tails atm...just dead stop audio....so its a no from me? I'll wait to see Force update first. I liked the quick hands on of mpc, and this is going to make that kinda impossible. I don't want logic on my mpc😂
hi there for your videos very useful i have different live set for 3 diferent shows i do there's 4 year of work i cant see how my old set will work in the new update since i have all 128 sequences with different tracks for all the different songs and the mutes are a big part of the live show to build dynamics variations i just dont see how that's gonna work now.. why did they take away the flexibility of the mpc
I duplicate my sequences then edit them. So my sequences always have the same tracks. So thats is basically the same. I never use track mutes and i am sure they will fix that issue. I am definitely not building a entire song with 1 sequence. Seems way too tedious. I arrange in song mode. Then convert song to a sequence. Work flow is basically the same for me just looks fancier with a few minor upgrades. Definitely downloading when its released.
Marlow, The mixer isn’t that new.. it looks like a version of the drum synth mixer with upgraded color! Maybe akai force also has that but idk. It’s interesting cus the new main mode reminds me of how I let guests play the pads with the screen from program edit so they can see the waveform while they play.
there are no programs anymore, so if I understand correctly, you just chop, convert it the way you want and you're good. no more unneccessary convertion to a new program.
Marlow im new with the mpc x just getting the hang of the old version should i stick with old version or upgrade to new version just wanna here your opinion
I am really wondering how the new screens react to the qlinks. For example, can we use the 16 qlinks on the X to control the volumes/pans of the tracks in Track Mixer, like on the Force? And is there a button combo on the X that brings you to the Arranger, once again similar to some button combos on the Force?
@@mpchead not to be confused with step sequencer, step time sequencing is what for example Maschine or Ableton has, it would work in a way of pressing record but not play, so you're entering events while the playback is not playing. You could just press the desired pad to enter an event and the sequence locator would advance automatically to the next step.
hey marlow, once again a great video, thanks for that. i have a quick question: so far i have only seen that when you copy a track, the “programs” are also copied. is it also possible to copy only the events in the main menu and select a different sample in the newly copied track?
Can't wait to get my paws in the mpc 3!! and that analog heat too btw. Quick question, do you use the mk2 as an audio interface by itself or do you use it along an audio interface? love the way it sounds. Best regards
Peace Marlow Q: If you sequence a track with a pattern and you replace that track with another program does it delete your midi sequence or replace the midi sequence with the new samples? Q: Can you audition live and swap out individual samples in a track (program) after you sequenced midi on that track (replacing a hi hat sound while the song is playing live for example) respect
Am I wrong or it's not possible to open projects made on MPC 3 on the desktop app that's still 2.15. In other words if you update to v. 3 you are stuck in standalone mode.
So..can you still make a song out of sequences? Actually I think you answered my question. In regards to track mutes, So the track mutes won’t be independent from each sequence?
for live performances, I have my songs on seperate sequences (song a on sequence 1 ect) i like to have my drums on track 1, samples on track 2, bass on track 3 ect, these all use different programs obviously. what i’m asking is , is this now not possible? because of that tracks are linked to programs so if i create a drum kit for song A on track 1, when i go to song B am i unable to put the drums on track 1 as the drums from the first song ? i use the track mutes for bringing in certain things for each song, am i going to have a bunch of tracks filling this screen now because of tracks in alternate songs?
That’s the biggest problem I see. I like the arrangement view for sequences but it’s not ideal for creating entire songs. I believe then you’re left with just song mode. There’s no sequence arrangement mode. Hopefully they’ll add it. Seems like everyone including AKAI glosses over that very big limitation.
They gotta put a band around those midi files like how they have the audio file. So we can arrange better without the confusing i be lost as hell arranging bars
Question about syncing mpc to external source: Currently (any firmware before 3) when MPC is sync'd to external source, if you arm an audio track (1 or more)> arm MPC rec or over dub> hit start/play, it only records a blip (very small audio track) and then immediately unarms the track. Is this still the case? If so, Can you (or anyone) please report this to Akai. I use studio one and it hs to be the master clock source. I have no work around to record external audio. I really want to use my MPC in this manner. I'm not alone, but I'd guess it's under reported.
Is clip mode still on the MPC3 software? I do my live beat shows with clip mode. It’s a big part of my performance. I would hate to see that it’s gone.
Clip tracks are gone. And it's crazy because with disk streaming the mpc live would have been a stem remixing beast. Maybe it will be implemented on a later version, unless akai thinks that this might cannibalise the force sales

Thanks god... Akai started to listening customers. It might be first user friendly device from Akai ever. Now even die hard logik fans got your attention 👍
The ren is definitely the most user friendly one of its time. Look how they made it…literally invited top producers to chime in and give feedback
Great vid. Would love to see what params the Q-links control on the new screens when in Screen Mode.
Best thing is the Lonnie Liston Smith samples
Eagerly awaiting the desktop version
This pad filter that shows the pads that are triggered in the sequence is the best improvement. Said that the program is gone. It is a quick way to try different beat etc with a pattern.
Being a frooty loops 3.0 power user the arrangement view is a welcome sight
Hi! Great vid! I think while on the arranger/grid, you can change tracks with a shortcut (dont remember which but i believe long press something) and you will get the screen to show all tracks and you just click it to edit that track.... hope you can find it out :)
It’s like Ableton and logic💪🏽
Nah! lol the greatest thing Akai did with the MPC X is remove the computer. Abelton and Logic require you to see first hear 2nd. (its an MPC 3000 thing) lol
@@dwightskrappreynolds my 1st recording device was the MPC 500. Zero visuals lol

One thing I'd like to see is loading old projects so we can see if there's a difference like will it convert everything automatically from previous MPCs(2000, 3000, 60, MPC 2.0, etc...) of the past into the new 3.0 workflow or will it just drop some of the things and forget the automations on tracks, etc... my guess is it'll convert for you but it's only a guess because track mutes is gone as of now
I'll try opening some XL projects and see how it works.
@@mpchead Thank you Marlow
Nice vudeo. 16:17 so this is actually the track mute function?
Track mutes are still there, they just don't behave like before. Muting a track in one sequence mutes the same track on all sequences.
Also, can you do a video showing how stems is incorporated into the new firmware?
Will do
Still hope there will be a mouse and piano roll someday. Would make DAWs go out of business
MPC2 had a piano roll, why would they get rid of it?
@@TranceCore3 it dont work easy like mouse
A mouse would be great!

Been wondering this too, great question, great answer @DavidBulczak. Very helpful
When you duplicate programs you are not duplicating samples, only the settings in the program.
@@DavidBulczak got ya , thank you

A lot of people who are comfortable with MPC will probably not like it, at least for a while, but I think these changes overall will prove to be huge workflow improvements. As long as they keep it from being too buggy and bogged down.
Is a big change imo, is hard for me to transition.
I understand both angles, to some
extent. I grew up with MPCs, but I took a 10 year break and when I came back I was actually disappointed that so much was the same haha. I learned to enjoy it, but it always felt like modern MPCs have an internal conflict between modern and classic that causes friction.
This will work great with serato studio. The work flow is very similar.
Just finished the video. Great overview. Thank you very much. Now I can not wait to get hands on 3.0 even more :D
One question.
I'm gonna wait for the full release, then like one month for the bug fixes :D
Then yeah, there goes a big learning curve because I dumb.
The old projects line up smoothly on this version?
No old project don't line up perfect if you use track mutes.
@@mpcheadoh shit. I have a lot of unfinished projects on the mpc.
@@PeteOnTheBeatSame, a big part of my workflow is making a few sequences and flipping between them in track mutes and figuring out where to drop things in and out. Applying the same mutes through the whole track seems counter productive and a backward step especially if it's gonna break old projects
@@mpchead
But now i am a little confused .
Is the new track mute function different to the old ? .
Or why doesnt it work when you load old projects?
Can you check the auto sampler. Just go into it. And check if theres an option to auto sample 8 velocity layers now? Thanks g
Finally I can see in the comments that im not the only one dessapoinelted.
They shoud just add arranger thats that.
Yeah agree
Does each track in a sequence have the same length? For example if I have a snare and a kick can i loop the snare for 4 bars and kick for 8 bars or they both would have to be the same.
Is clip program still functionning as before ?
I'd love if they could insert follow action .. it would enable great live performance possibilities. The new mixer is great and arrangement view feels very Daw alike. 🎉
I think clip programs are gone
Are there now functions for QLinks, like double tap sets default value? ie. pan to center. Posted this on the wishlist years ago. =)
And can we make a sequence, for example, the hook, then the verse and then have them lined up as we want in that grid?
Yes. I've watched other videos. It will give us the capability to adjust the parts around in the arranger. Check out the Akai Pro youtube with Andy Mack. He goes over all the features thus far.
Funny they needed 3 iterations to actually make pad mutes using pads:) great improvement(no sarcasm)
I don't understand. You could always do pad mutes using pads. Maybe I am missing the point.
Quick question, will the update work on Mpc one also? I’m new to the Mpc family, be easy lol
Yes on all MPCs
I don't think it's going to work, just keep the old version.
@@mpchead thank you for the feed back i might get mascine plus or push 3 as i don't stay stuck on a mpc i can't upgrade
Marlow,
The mixer isn’t that new.. it looks like a version of the drum synth mixer with upgraded color! Maybe akai force also has that but idk.
It’s interesting cus the new main mode reminds me of how I let guests play the pads with the screen from program edit so they can see the waveform while they play.
All you see in the update is basically the OS of the force.
Great demonstration. Is beta out?
You cam sign up for it. Not out for the public yet
Is there anything different with chopping samples and converting to programs?
there are no programs anymore, so if I understand correctly, you just chop, convert it the way you want and you're good. no more unneccessary convertion to a new program.
I think the terminology changes but the workflow is the same. Now you convert to a track, and save the track. I'll show this on a new video.
Marlow im new with the mpc x just getting the hang of the old version should i stick with old version or upgrade to new version just wanna here your opinion
If you are new to the mpc I would go for the new update. I am going to make a video about this tomorrow.
I’m. Good. I’ll keep my older update.
Thanks for sharing brother, looks interesting. Wondering if they are also going to give the computer version a face lift? 🤔
I am really wondering how the new screens react to the qlinks. For example, can we use the 16 qlinks on the X to control the volumes/pans of the tracks in Track Mixer, like on the Force? And is there a button combo on the X that brings you to the Arranger, once again similar to some button combos on the Force?
I'll have a look at that for the next video
I'm sticking to the original
Same
I'm Still learning 2.xx
the update is gonna break all your old projects anyway.
@TranceCore3 is it?
@@TranceCore3 is that a fact?
keeping my fingers crossed for step time sequencing
What is that?
@@mpchead not to be confused with step sequencer, step time sequencing is what for example Maschine or Ableton has, it would work in a way of pressing record but not play, so you're entering events while the playback is not playing. You could just press the desired pad to enter an event and the sequence locator would advance automatically to the next step.
hey marlow, once again a great video, thanks for that. i have a quick question: so far i have only seen that when you copy a track, the “programs” are also copied. is it also possible to copy only the events in the main menu and select a different sample in the newly copied track?
I haven't tried that yet but Ill be sure to include it in the next video.
@@mpchead great, thank you! :)
Ayo Marl.. btw.. what u say to the Stem Separation Quality in Standalone?
Not bad, needs improvement.
As an OG One owner, I would love to see Marlow spend 2 weeks to 30 days making beats on it to get his take on the budget MPC.
Working on it.

@@PeteOnTheBeat ha, those Zzounds payments were clutch for me!
question, what happens when you load a clip program? if it turns into a drum track now do the clips still auto loop and repeat?
There are no clip programs on Mpc3
loopop says there clip programs are converted into drum programs
Do you find the new 3.0 update more snappier?
Not really
What will happen to previous songs? Is it work or not?
At this point it is better to wait and see what the official update will do.
Can't wait to get my paws in the mpc 3!! and that analog heat too btw. Quick question, do you use the mk2 as an audio interface by itself or do you use it along an audio interface? love the way it sounds. Best regards

Q: If you sequence a track with a pattern and you replace that track with another program does it delete your midi sequence or replace the midi sequence with the new samples?
Q: Can you audition live and swap out individual samples in a track (program) after you sequenced midi on that track (replacing a hi hat sound while the song is playing live for example)
respect
Q1 I haven't tried that yet. Next video
Q2 yes you can
@@mpchead Thanks Marlow. Yeah it would be dope if we can save sequences like patterns by themselves and load that up into projects
Am I wrong or it's not possible to open projects made on MPC 3 on the desktop app that's still 2.15. In other words if you update to v. 3 you are stuck in standalone mode.
Yes that's right, can't open them on 2.15. Is just a different machine, that's what Ive been saying. They basically put a force inside the mpc.
Is there a clips view like in the Force?
Not that I am aware of but it wouldn't surprise me if they were to come up with something similar in the future. Specially now that clip view is gone.
Hi there, what about the Clip Launch mode? :)
I think that's gone but maybe there's something new that I've missed
What if you create multiple sequences but then want to put them in arranger? Is it possible?
Each sequence has its own arrangement. It's not an arrangement for all sequences.
Question about syncing mpc to external source:
Currently (any firmware before 3) when MPC is sync'd to external source, if you arm an audio track (1 or more)> arm MPC rec or over dub> hit start/play, it only records a blip (very small audio track) and then immediately unarms the track. Is this still the case? If so, Can you (or anyone) please report this to Akai.
I use studio one and it hs to be the master clock source. I have no work around to record external audio. I really want to use my MPC in this manner. I'm not alone, but I'd guess it's under reported.
Can you transpose different sequences like on MPC 2 ? Example intro -3 , first 4 bars -0 , second 4 bars +3 , third 4 bars -2 ? 😮
A dica do Load new track é preciosa…
is there a dedicated button on the x to switch to arranger view?
No, no mpc has that.
@@mpchead of course not labeled, i meant one that now functions as the short cut. like program edit is now track edit.
In 3.0, is it possible to write automation for XY insert fx on the master outputs using the touchscreen?
Is clip mode still on the MPC3 software? I do my live beat shows with clip mode. It’s a big part of my performance. I would hate to see that it’s gone.
I can not confirm anything but as far as I see currently (I've watched a lot of 3.0 videos :D) clip tracks are gone for now.
I think clip tracks are gone, I can't confirm, but I don't see then anywhere
Clip tracks are gone. And it's crazy because with disk streaming the mpc live would have been a stem remixing beast. Maybe it will be implemented on a later version, unless akai thinks that this might cannibalise the force sales
I really hope this is not the case. I take my MPC across the country soon abroad for live beat shows. I feel like this is a bit negligent.
