Ultimo Dragon was my personal favourite along with La Parka. Dean Malenko was around 15 years too early. Today where people get hard for PWG dance routines they'd love him, but when he was around he was never entertaing and never would have been a draw back then even with a major push.

It's absolutely criminal what happened to DDP. It would be like if The Rock went to WCW only to have him get squashed by Sting then he tumbled down into the lower midcard losing to guys like Disco Inferno and La Parka.
imo Good vid. Malenko is one of my all-time favorite wrestlers, not making it in WWF/E says more about the promotion than it does Malenko. Wyndham, Scorpio, Storm and Vader also deserved much better from WWF/E. Vader was a great monster. imo
Kanyon was one of those guys that were way ahead of his time. Chris's style would be perfect today and would have likely been a top star for WWE or another company. RIP

I've seen the '96 Royal Rumble. They misused Vader from the start. It took him six minutes to eliminate anyone, Yokozuna out powered him and, in fact, he and Yokozuna were sneak eliminated by HBK while Yokozuna had him over the ropes.

I think WWE did not know how to use Ultimo Dragon. Again, this should not be the wrestler's fault. As for Barry Windham, he had a successful run in WWF before he went to WCW. He and Mike Rotunda were the Tag champs and had a good run in the early 80's.
Most of these guys shouldve been used sooo much better, vader shouldve been a huge monster. Dragon and malenko were outstanding workers, DDP had all the charisma in the world
I would like to bring clarity to the reference “adding the word new” does not translate into success. He was speaking of adding the word “New” in front of an old gimmick that previously worked. Jim Cornet was smart enough to realize and use the word “original” Midnight Express. I do not think he was referring to word “New” on a fresh gimmick. It’s sad the poor writing, expensive gimmicks and selfish direction eventually took the WCW down.
It is well known fact that it was DDP who was originally booked to feud with The Rock during Invasion as his WCW character was much closer to The Rock's then Booker T's who ended up doing it. For God knows what rason, they went with Booker T and ruined a potentially perfect feud. Only things The Rock and DDP ever had in common is SIMILAR but NOT THE SAME finishing move.
what seems to be a reoccuring theme with a lot of these guys is that Vince/ WWE creative didnt know how to use these guys properly. Jim Cornette has also said Vader didnt help his case b/c he was kind of a whiner.
I disagree. While not a headliner in WWE, I think Lance had a good (not great) run. A tag team champ as well as holder of secondary belts. Hardly what I would call a flop.
When Vince bought WCW, it was mainly for the rights to the video library and he wasn't interested in the existing WCW talent. Sting wasn't interested in coming to the WWE after he saw how the WCW wrestlers were being handled on TV.

DDP was never as big as the Rock, so that comparison is asinine. Edge would be more comparable to DDP in popularity.

The competition between then WWF and WCW was exactly what made that era so amazing and memorable.

dman, i loved dean malenko with chris benoit... they were great to watch.
Most of these guys shouldve been used sooo much better, vader shouldve been a huge monster. Dragon and malenko were outstanding workers, DDP had all the charisma in the world

I would like to bring clarity to the reference “adding the word new” does not translate into success. He was speaking of adding the word “New” in front of an old gimmick that previously worked. Jim Cornet was smart enough to realize and use the word “original” Midnight Express. I do not think he was referring to word “New” on a fresh gimmick. It’s sad the poor writing, expensive gimmicks and selfish direction eventually took the WCW down.

It is well known fact that it was DDP who was originally booked to feud with The Rock during Invasion as his WCW character was much closer to The Rock's then Booker T's who ended up doing it. For God knows what rason, they went with Booker T and ruined a potentially perfect feud. Only things The Rock and DDP ever had in common is SIMILAR but NOT THE SAME finishing move.
what seems to be a reoccuring theme with a lot of these guys is that Vince/ WWE creative didnt know how to use these guys properly. Jim Cornette has also said Vader didnt help his case b/c he was kind of a whiner.

I disagree. While not a headliner in WWE, I think Lance had a good (not great) run. A tag team champ as well as holder of secondary belts. Hardly what I would call a flop.
Vince can make more money after he bought wcw he could just put it on a tuesday show ...
And could have a war games
When Vince bought WCW, it was mainly for the rights to the video library and he wasn't interested in the existing WCW talent. Sting wasn't interested in coming to the WWE after he saw how the WCW wrestlers were being handled on TV.
