When my mother died in 1977 there was a woman who lived up the street her name was Margaret but everybody called her muzi for some reason she took a liking to me and she kind of adopted me. She was a spitting image of Audrey Meadows her mannerisms the hair color the facial structure the eyes everything, she was just a wonderful I will never forget her. She was a wonderful loving women from Ireland and I was a little boy came to the US from, the irony is she never had children she would have been a great mother.

Costas shines here as he asks questions and then sits back and listens, without interruption. THAT is the way to do an interview! People want to hear the interviewEE, not the interviewER.

Every interviewer should be reminded of this weekly. If the person being interviewed is rolling, then let them roll! Costas occasionally sets the scene, then lets her roll again. You put it so well Demef. BTW She probably was too pretty, but she still worked great.

No doubt about that. I don't watch predictable modern sitcoms at all. Why, when one has watched the Honeymooners, there is nothing to compare with it. I'm like Costa and watch the shows over and over. And, oddly, they seem as fresh and hilarious as the first time seeing them. And they personify a (austere) time period familiar to many who grew up in that era.

He's not just fawning over Audrey Meadows for the sake of the show, he's a genuine fan. I would have liked Bob to jog Audrey's memory on filming specific moments in the show that we all love and wait for. Also, he never asked her about the abrupt end after just 39 episodes. That had to be a big disappointment for the rest of the cast.

Cavett and Costas were very good interviewers, and only occasionally tried to show off how much they knew (which was a considerable amount). It's the format that makes the difference. You should only have one guest per show. But the Carson format was the favored format.

Had the extreme pleasure of working with her on a pilot about the time this interview happened. She was perhaps the most gracious actress I have ever worked with. However a chain smoker. Ashtrash trays were hidden around the set!

Audrey Meadows is one of those characters who would still have a sexy appeal even at 120 years old!

Thanks very much for this upload (and all your work), Don. I'm stuck in bed with a disability due to nerve damage, and have spent a good portion of the time over the last few years chuckling at your Letterman posts. "The Honeymooners" is also one of my favorite shows, so this interview with Audrey is a particular treat.

Audrey was the only member of the Honeymooners cast to earn residuals after the classic 39 episodes of the show from 1955 to 1956 started airing in reruns. Her brother Edward, a lawyer, had inserted a clause into her original contract whereby she would be paid if the shows were rebroadcast, earning her millions of dollars.

Good for her. As great as Jackie was, one of her deadpan looks as Alice could stop him in his tracks... and got all of us too.

she was a dear lady - we thought of her and Mr Six (Robert F.) as our Continental Airlines family mom and dad when Continental was known as “The Proud Bird with the Golden Tail” prior to the disastrous Lorenzo era during the early 1980s. She designed the interiors on board Continental’s original four Boeing 747s and McDonnell-Douglas DC-10s when wide body aircraft were first introduced during the early 1970s. We miss you deeply Miss Audrey!

@11:27 Audrey's mental-f**k on Jackie, as they go live on-air is classic! Pranks like that were common among live TV, especially Norm McDonald (SNL) who would screw w/ the cast during the countdown to air.

She was so very special! I should point out that Elvis actually made his TV debut on "Stage Show", which was hosted by Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey and their band. It was a summer replacement for Gleason that was made by his production company. It seems fitting that two legends from the swing era introduced a legend of the rock and roll era.
