Pillars of the Earth is also my favorite read of the year so far! I read it back in January and I can’t stop thinking about it. Such an incredible story, definitely top 10 of all-time for me!
Matt, respectfully I need you to relax, my TBR is out of control thanks to you and my wife is not happy lol jk. All jokes aside thank you for all your reviews I can’t wait to dive into several books/series the rest of the year you’ve recommended
Lol love it
LOL
The Pillars of the Earth has been my favourite book this year too! Going to read the next book in a couple of weeks. Cannot wait!
The Pillars of the Earth is my hands down favorite book of all time! I look forward to checking out the books on your list that I haven’t read yet. My poor, ever growing TBR lol
I read Pillars of the Earth because of you this year!!! It was soo good!
I'm so impressed with your reading pace and the concise way your able to break down books! You have a talent, sir! Thanks for sharing!
Definitely NEED to pick up Bound and the Broken and Pillars of the Earth sometime in the near future!
Yes you do!
100% agree with you that Dungeon Crawler Carl has the best audio narration in the history of ever. AND I'm really happy to see you are on the Saga of the Forgotten Warrior! Ashok's sword would murder my face if I even looked at it. Great reading Q1!
Definitely need to pick up Will Wight's new series! I completely agree with where you put Of War and Ruin! it was such an amazing read. I can't wait for book 5!
Thanks Matt!!!
The house on the cerulean sea is the only fantasy book i read in 2024 and i loved it
You should have so much more subscribers! I love your content!
Best wishes with what you choose to read. I'm currently reading the Count of Monte Cristo. It is excellent but I might be some time. Good luck. I hope you get some great stories.
I really like it when you recommend reading or audio and why pls keep it up
Thanks, I'll make sure to keep that up.
Pillars of the earth is in my top 3 books of all time. I would reccomend to read evening and morning next Matt, that one is a very, very close second in the series!
dang i wish i had even read 10 books this year of any genre lmao
I read Pillars of the Earth last month. I really like Follett's epic historical fiction. That being said, the first of his Century Trilogy is still my favorite so far, Fall of Giants.
Good list. I read Homeland recently for the first time also and was really shocked as well! It's like Heir to the Empire, they may have started out in fan fiction franchises but they're so good they made the leap into the mainstream genre, and deservedly so. Any plans to read on? It only got better and better!
Excellent list! I expected to see Kingdoms of Death on here after watching your video last week.
It will be on the next iteration of this. I consider that one an "April" book, and this list only covers up until the end of March.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Ahhh. Gotcha! Wanted to say that I just recently discovered your channel and I love your content. Thank you for all the hours of great book reviews and other insights!!
Watching your videos always gets me so bumped up to read more. Thank you for your great work!
I really hope i start to feel like you do about Bound and the Broken later. After book 2 i currently feel like the best description of it is "a bit above average". Its doing just enough to keep me reading so heres hoping!
I read Pillars of the Earth over 10 years ago and it's still in my top 5, I still think about it and the character :') I need to re-read soon !! great list Matt !!
Yeah I could see this being a good reread book every handful of years.
Larry Correias steampunk series was great as well, and it’s done!
Right with you on Children of Time, Eye of the Bedlam Bride, and the Heroes!!! Definitely gotta read the rest!
Yeah you were so right about Children of Time!
I read son of the hlack sword after your review, proceeded to do every book ao far back to back, man ive been loving it so famn good
That's awesome to hear. I can't wait to read more of this series.
I am going to try four of the books listed
Pillars is an all-time'er. Cant wait to keep going with Kingsbridge but Pillars just hit in every way I would want.
I can't imagine the next one is as good as the first, but it doesn't have to be to be a great read.
Hey Matt Empire of the Vampire could be a good pick for the next you are up for your wife and friend. You love it and it has some spicy parts. Great list as always!
Yeah that's a great call!
Wow, great year so far! I need to read dungeon crawler carl and Tchaikovsky already. Age of Madness is so great, I just finished the trilogy. Abercrombie still killing it. Correia's Grimnoir series is really cool, 1920's with superpowers.
I'll have to check out that series!
I'd reconsider keeping the rereads in. By the end of the year Malazan and First Law will be taking up a lot of spots.
Maybe, but I've read a lot of bangers this year that aren't those series. And I'll probably only read 3 or so Malazan books this year
R A Salvatore has written great books back in the 1980s-1990s
Got bad news for Matt that Of Empire and Dust is coming out early next now...
I've only read 11 books so far this year so no sense ranking a top 10 yet, lol. But I have read 4 books I've given 5 stars too so I'll post those:
1. The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson
2. King of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
3. The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson
4. Emperor of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
Sanderson and Lawrence have pretty much been my year so far in reading, lol. I did read Joe Abercrombie's Shattered Sea trilogy but it is nowhere near as good as First Law; not bad or anything but not 5 star quality like almost everything FL.
I have Anthony Ryan on deck after I finish the Lawrence series I'm on (Red Queen's War) and then I'm thinking about diving into the Ryan Cahill series you mentioned above. Trying to decide between it or Brian Lee Durfee or Richard Swan's Empire of the Wolf or Guy Garvriel Kay's Fionavar Tapestry; I'll read them all eventually but not decided which will be next yet, lol.
I also need to get to John Gwynne's Bloodsworn Saga before book 3 comes out later this year.
I got too many books and not enough time, lol. Need to set me up a Gofundme so I can quit my job to have more time to read, lol.
I think it's cool that you don't leave off re-reads from your list. I wouldn't either. I only read 29 books in the first 3 months. I don't think I can do a top 10. But my best books so far are: Return to Edan, Leviathan Falls, the Wickwire Watch, The Dungeon Anarchists Cookbook, Eyes of the Void by Adrian Tchaikovsky, and Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett. I think that's 6 books.
ONLY read 29 books? Lol you are on track for more read than 99.999% of the population.
@MattsFantasyBookReviews lol. I guess so. I imagine you've read more than me, though.
Of War and Ruins does it have strong women characters like the wheel of times?
Pillars ❤❤❤
I know it's not fantasy, but if you love good characters, have you read Lonesome Dove?? I just finished it, and it's amazing! I'm normally a fantasy/sci-fi guy, but I highly recommend it, and I would love to see you do a LD review.
Lonesome Dove was the best book I read in 2022 😀
Oh! Sweet! I'll go watch your review.
Have you not read any Wandering Inn in 2024? Now I have to go back & look! 😅
Nope. Reading rains of liscor right now though.
Freaked out when KoD wasnt on here then realized its an April read
you should pick Empire of the Vampire for your wife and friend to read next 😏
No Kingdoms of Death? Or did that technically fall into the 2nd qtr?
2nd quarter.
Pillar of the earth can be read as standalone??
Yes!
I've learned that I don't enjoy audiobooks as much Unless it's a story I've already read physically. But that just could be because I Haven't gotten the right Audiobooks Just didn't click with the narrator
Are you telling me that Pillars of the Earth has a better villain than Kennit?!
Not as complex as Kennit, but definitely more hateable
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Is… How is that possible?! I’ll definitely check it out- thank you.
Where is Kingdoms of Death, Matt!
I assume Kingdoms of Death didn't get read in time for this?
No, that will be next iteration of this.
Kingdoms of Death isn't on the list?
It was an April read and this list only covers up through March
Larry Correa’s book definitely needs a new cover art . If the novel is as good as you are saying, the cover it really is weak .
It has a different cover
Wait...did you make this video before reading Kingdoms of Death? Why isn't it on the list?
I'm basing the list off where the books were read according to my TBR contest. So Kingdoms of Death is an "April" book and will show up on the next quarter's iteration of this list.
Can’t wait for you to read Ashes of Man. I just finished it and it’s amazing. What a series.
Welp my list sucked
Pilars of Earth, the vilain made me soooo angry, amazing, never expected to enjoy a book with such a pitch. But the vilain, how did the author write a man that is so detestable? I am still wondering.
Yeah fully agreed
Seriously, what happened to the slowing down and taking a break?
That was an April fools joke
😂😂😂😂
heroes better than little hatred?
what the actual fuck man, its the worst first law book after sharp ends
There's a TON of people who love Heroes.
@MattsFantasyBookReviews it's my favorite first law book easily
You didn't read pillars of the earth? Mate.
I"m reading Exile (Drizzt book 2) right now, and PIllars of the Earth is on my TBR!
I hope you love it!
