Today, I am talking about the career of Chris Jericho. From WCW, to WWE, to AEW, I will be evaluating how the later years of his career are going to affect his overall legendary legacy.

Ric Flair's last match was at Wrestlemania XXIV. He never wrestled again. HE NEVER WRESTLED AGAIN.
Yeah tell that to TNA,Or Hulk Hogan's Hulkmainia tour from years ago , or Conrad Thompson.
@@Filmation77 NO!!!
@@kimmolaine8069 yes it was , and the older he got the better he was
@@Filmation77anything involving with ric flair after his match against shawn is filler it's non canon
@@Jkhealth964 in WHAT reality? its called a wrestling career. Or are you one of those marks who think the character of Ric Flair ENDED with WM XXIV which is Silly thinking cause Psst , there was a charater called "Nature Boy Ric Flair" BEFORE he came to WWF. and "Retirement Matches" in Wrestling have as Much Value as a return Match Clause after somebody loses their World Title.(Ask the late Terry Funk who had 2.445 Retirement matches) and Ric didn't retire himself, VINCE McMahon did.and Ric has said so himself . All that match did was say that Ric Flair could no longer compete at that high WWE level (and use your brain here: why do you think that Ric's Final WWE match was based on the Movie "OLD YELLER"? a story about a person putting their dog out of their misery cause it couldn't GO anymore and it was in pain.) that's why it was so heartbreaking but perfect at the same time. when Ric Flair succesor ,HBK, was the one to take him out. it was that they now call today "CINEMA" WWE ric flair was dead, but WWE isn't the BE all END All of Pro wrestling
He overexposed himself! That simple! In WWE, he took breaks so he doesn't overexpose himself. In AEW, he never did. It was all about him and him alone! He took a billionaire son's money and ran wild! Yeah, he pocketed a ton of money, but to his legacy, he damaged it big time.
That's a great point that I didn't even think about. He used to go on tour with Fozzy all the time and then it was a big deal when he returned.
Its about money. Even to clickbait RUclipsrs its about money.
Of course its for money. Its human. The whole "doing it for fans" rubbish is good for a few years until celebrities start prioritizing what makes themselves happy. Like most humans
Like many say for other celebrities, 'legacy' can be very superficial. At the end of the day most people do what makes themselves happy. Not always what everyone else/fans say.
I am certain most commenting here on Twitter are not much different. Choosing happiness instead of how every other person says they should live
I agree. Many of Jericho's best re-inventions came after a break.
His short time in njpw was nice too.
Definitely. I remember I wasn’t really watching wrestling at the time but when he first showed up to confront Omega, I was shocked.
soon as he started that back elbow shit i was like yea bro getting old
😂
The problem is that a lot of these older wrestlers today just can't come to grips with their own mortality. On one hand, it's great to see a lot of them healthy and confident enough to want to keep at it even in their fifties, which is something previous generations of wrestlers rarely did as most of them were lucky to live that long. But all this does is cause them to overstay their welcome, and they end up making fools of themselves and taint their legacy.
Absolutely agree. And I’m not even calling for him to retire, it’s just hard as a fan to watch someone you once loved fall off this hard.
Not even just wrestlers bro. Tom Brady lost his whole family for that last season where everybody was trashing him and calling him mid

Chris jericho after his 2019 world title run doesnt exist to me
Chris Jericho is the wrestling equivalent of Vince Neil.
Oh no it's so true. Now I gotta go listen to the Fozzy cover of Livewire
Thing is Vince Neil was never a good singer, while Jericho was an amazing wrestler.
@@NesToimil Vince Neil was good for his genre of music.
Jericho was arguably decent, but worked better as a character than a "wrestler", per se.
I don't think I've heard 2016-2017 WWE referred to as a "magical time" too often
Haha, don’t disagree but it’s just a time I personally have nostalgia for. Should have clarified that better.
2016- early 2017 smackdown was special 🥲
NXT and SD were on fire during that time. The only things worth watching on Raw were the Jericho/KO stuff and the New Day. Everything else was fast-forward material.
It was GREAT!! It's the time I started watching again!!
The Learning Tree is a really fun gimmick tbf, but the issue with it is that being self aware isn't enough. Jericho should be managing Big Bill and jobbing to younger guys. The fact he is on TV eating up air time when AEW has an issue of not being able to get everyone on TV is a negative. Jericho could build back a lot of good will with fans by just letting go. He doesn't have to retire, but he could be a great part time guy or a great manager.
I look at New Japan. They have a ton of older guys passed their primes who gets spots on cards, but its always with a purpose and the younger guys are always outshining them. Even look at general wrestling history. I look back to Harley Race managing Vader and Flair managing Triple H. Jericho is self aware, but not enough to realize he could do the most good by being a heel manager.
I completely agree. I don’t mind the gimmick but mostly because I’m a fan of Big Bill.
Y2j beating the rock and steve at the same day is one of the best thing i see in wwe

@@shotzcapalot yeah although his title run sucked unfortunately
He won the WCW world title as a face in late 2001 a month before he turned heel
I really like Jericho as the elder statesman in AEW. There genuinely wouldn’t be AEW without him (having the established name was needed to get greenlit apparently). I’ve always been a fan.
… but fuck me sideways, he needs to take a long holiday from AEW. He needs to feck off for a while now.
Absolutely. A break is needed.
You're about to break through, brother. Never stop. These videos are fire.
Thank you so much. It really does mean a lot.
Jericho is becoming what he hated, Randy "The Ram" Robinson
After 2007, Jericho had several hiatus. He disappeared from WWE to focus on Fozzy, so it kept his character fresh. He has been on AEW TV for 5 years with no break.
2008-2010 jericho is the best
WCW jericho by a mile
Suit wearing Jericho was his best work
i did meet chriss Jerico in finland after a wwe show 2004, he was a real awsome person, he didnt have to talk to me but he went outside the hotel and sed hello while i was smoking and took his time to talk to me for 20 minutes before he left the hotel to go eat.
@@sixstackjack Yeah I wanna be clear my videos are never about the real people behind the wrestlers. I know it’s a thin line but I’m glad you had a good experience! Despite everything I said, I’d love to meet him.
He was vital to the rise of aew, and he a big part of its downturn. He should’ve taken a break after the inner circle disbanded. And not only from being in ring, his commentary was also brutal.
I see a lot of people saying he needed to take more breaks and I couldn't agree more.
His self proclaimed "David Bowie of Pro Wrestling " nickname is true after all, right now i think he's in the "...hours" era of David Bowie.
If that’s the case then wake me up when he hits Blackstar
Manager/Comentator Jericho would be nice right now. The learning tree gimmick could humble him in story with frustration
He‘s terrible at commentating.
I would say Chris Jericho got boring in early 2022 when they started the JAS. That honestly is one of the beginning downfalls in my opinion not only of Jericho getting boring but AEW as well.
I agree. The new Japan, inner circle stuff, and his feud with Cody was all pretty good even though he clearly had lost a step in terms of wrestling ability.
It’s crazy how Jericho was (and still is) in the top echelon of wrestlers of all time. Even into his early tenure in AEW as ‘Le Champion’ was brilliant, imho.
But then nothing hit with him ever again? It’s truly astounding considering considering how great he was for SO long
Jericho in the early 2000s moved and looked like a god. He was a master on the mic, too. He was already way past his prime by 2016
You are making a solid point but don't forget people don't want to remember bad thing since it makes them sad
Y2j used to be worshiped. No joke I was there
Of course he's the ayatollah of rockarolla
@@NugundamsisntforshowThe Ayatollah of Rum and Cola
TK signed Jericho to a 10 year deal that will expire when Jericho is 62 years old. Despite the fact that NOBODY that has worked with Jericho has come out of the feud for the better.
TK is the markiest mark that's ever marked. 😂
Jericho is my all time favorite wrestler and my personal GOAT. BUT i will even admit that hes in his "Michael Jordan playing in the Wizards phase" right now. But honestly i dont think its THAT bad. I mean people even want Edge to retire permanently (again) and Flair? Dont even get me started 😅. But seriously though, Jericho is in a bad spot in his later years but he is still Y2J
I totally agree it’s not that bad. Especially because I’m a huge fan of Big Bill so getting to see him on TV more has been great.
My favourite version of Chris Jericho was when he turned heel in 2008 and slammed HBK head first into the Jeritron 5000. He started wearing suits and completely changed his mannerisms and the way he delivered promos. He was fantastic
chris's stuff in wcw near the end was hilarious. id argue thats best chris jericho, young hungry and desperate so stuff like 1004 holds comes to be because of it
Dude was my instant favourite when he showed up, ESPECIALLY once I learned he took his name from one of my favourite ever metal albums.
...leaves me glad I never got into AEW, I can just pretend like it never happened.
One of my favorite wrestlers I think it's time to hang it up❤
Jericho could have had a Legends farewell once AEW was established but he just couldn't let it go which is absolutely understandable
He's still cool I'm not the biggest fan of his current gimmick but he's still the man.
"You know, when I was a kid, I used to think you were cool" This video in a nutshell lol
Do you know what happens to people who say Chris Jericho USED to be cool?
like Bautista and Cena, Jericho should’ve went to Hollywood and made BIG MONEY, would’ve easily been a great star !
He was my fav😢
"Fake it until you make it"
Wrestling seems to be the opposite where once you reach an age where it's obvious you couldn't win in real life, you can just pretend you are still great. No 50 year old could beat prime 20 and 30 year olds and yet we still see guys like Chris Jericho and Sting win matches for 'reasons'.
2008-2016 Jericho was GOAT
No, we remember the Shaq that advertised the general auto insurance😂
This is so real. I remember starting to get more into pro wrestling in 2021 and I loved the stuff I watched from Jericho! I loved the promo where he interrupted the Rock. I laughed hard at the segment where he peed in William Regal’s tea and the way he did a call back to it on AEW. Then the slop of AEW started and I began to notice how he was taking spots from newer wrestlers and making the new guys look weak. It made me see Jericho as very annoying and not entertaining at all.
I’m a huge fan of CM Punk and began to watch a lot of Punk’s 2010’s stuff in WWE. I watched his feud with Jericho after Jericho’s flop era had started and I still don’t know if I hated Jericho in that feud because he was the heel or if I hated him because I knew what kind of gimmick he has now. It sucks. I wanna hate the heel clearly just because he’s a good heel. Not because my opinion on him and his work has changed due to him being so bad rn
I couldn't agree more with wanting to hate the heel because they are a good heel. It's pretty rare nowadays.
I WAS NOT expecting the 'TV GLOW' ending!
@@AceBobcat Haha, I literally just watched that movie a few days before making this video and I loved it.
@@BeanerBroncoBusterYT it's SUCH a great film that just utterly *broke* me the first time I watched it!
I don’t watch AEW but just from what I hear and read on RUclips and different parts of the internet, is that it seems Jericho has been on AEW TV for way too long and he’s had so many gimmick changes. If you look at Jericho after he came back to WWE in 07 till he left in 18/19. The special thing with Jericho was, he would come back, have an awesome run, put talent over, then he would go away for months to a year, then he would return at some point down the line and reinvent himself. It doesn’t seem like he’s done that in AEW just from what I’ve heard. I think if he started doing that again, his match quality would be better and I think people would appreciate him like they used to.
To be fair, most people don't know he's not doing so well in AEW because they don't watch it, so based on that his legacy is probably okay by large
Still the my favorite wrestler of all time
That's valid. Like I said, I enjoyed most of his work.
good video mane
Thank you! Really appreciate it, big fan of your vids.
Chris Jerichos been hated since WCW, even when he came back and said nothing on Raw people were shitting all over him for it. His return in 2007 and the story with Kevin Owens until about two years ago was the only time Chris Jericho was ever universally loved my wrestling fans. Especially 2008 chris jericho nobody liked him after his turned heel on shawn michaels, I was there when it happened the entire arena turned on him that night.
he used to be so damn cool so it’s unfortunate to see him like this
one thing that i dont like about how aew booking of jericho is that out of the 3 stables that he has been in inner circle, j.a.s, and learning tree is that after the ssaid stable has broken up none of its members have done nothing of note aside from maybe danny garcia or sammy gavara
Great video
@@hectorlumbagoCringe Thanks a lot man! Really appreciated.
@@BeanerBroncoBusterYT of course, I’m excited to tune in for more, I can tell you care and are knowledgeable but not pretentious or rude, much love
WWF Y2J was the best time that i grew foundly of him ever since then. i slowly turn away he gotten more cartoony as time went on, now he's just hulk from WCW in AEW. lol
I'll never let what Ric Flair has done in the last 15 years ruin his legacy, and nor will I let anything Chris Jericho tries or says ruin his legacy. He loves the game and has always changed it up. This most recent stuff isn't working, and maybe he should stop, but lots of guys hadn't yet at his age.
He has definitely overexposed himself and his role needs to change!
My favourite era was suit and tie 2007 or so, hosting Talk is Jericho and such. and I haven't enjoyed much of what he's done the past 7 years, but hey. I don't think anything he does in the ring can ruin his legacy. Or the cruise ship stuff. The only thing that could remove him from my personal top 5 is if he does some terrible things outside of the ring.
He is still one of my all time favourites
Chris Jericho the goat 🐐!!
Yeah but once this guy retires or dies everybody will be like "He was my favorite wrestler!" 😭 "Don't go please!"
That's not really a bad thing. He’s had an incredible impact on the industry and has been one of the most versatile performers ever. My criticism is more about whether his recent matches are adding to or taking away from his legacy. I hope people do celebrate him when he passes.
2008 chris Jericho was legendary .
RAW is Jericho, he was a breath of fresh air back then in WWF now he's a fart in the wind that u just want to get rid of. lol
Does he ever do the lion tamer anymore? That was dope.
What Jericho needs to do, is something crazy...
He needs to go away for four to six months... not gone, but off camera, outside of the main scene.
Then you bring back a blended version of the pain maker and the list... not as a wrestler, as a manager... bringing in a monster heel... then Jericho's list... is everyone he has elevated... it's not you made the list, but you have been eliminated from the list... put people off screen for a month or so... let them polish up their mic skills, heal up, repackage, spend the time in the tank. Bring them back with actual storylines.
Use it as the vehicle to reset AEW... then you blow it all off and have your monster heel, pull the pay off we never got for WCW Goldberg... because as this list gets shorter and shorter, Jericho... starts interfering more and more.
Then put Jericho back in the ring after he has had some time to cook up something worth watching.
Jericho is in it for the money in my opinion. He’s already got a podcast, a band, and published multiple memoirs but he’s got the dad bod now. If he’s not renewing a contract with AEW in the future, then he’ll retire as a multimillionaire with a bigger bank account than now. I don’t doubt that he loves the business, but does he really *need* to be in the ring twice a week?
Jericho isn't essential anymore,
He can't go in the ring as well,
He physically isn't convincing,
His characters feel pointless,
What else can he do?
Chris Jericho is my number one but recent years have nearly clouded that belief.
Undertaker wasn't champion for the last years and years. Because it would have been incredibly stupid. That's why he didn't do it. It's the position Jericho is placed in.
For me Chris Jericho huge fan it's freaking sad what he's become
I think in the first minute you talk too high about wrestling. If you think of a legacy of any person the whole career is included, the ups and downs. Take Christiano Ronaldo or Messi for example. Their current clubs weaken their legacy. It's not a specific wrestling phenomenom. Everyone should know when they reached the peak. But it is always up the viewer how to remember one
This is a great point, I defiently get a little too dramatic sometimes lol.
I think they flipped him between face/heel too much in AEW and he’s lost rizz as a result. He can still have good matches imo but too much time without taking a break, heel/face flips, bad booking, too many run ins in his matches, always being in a stable, the learning tree gimmick etc are all hurting his aura.
I think he still has a lot to offer when he locks in and I don’t hate him like a lot of people but he could use a break.
I still enjoy him lol I like the learning tree thing because he literally took all the online hate and trolling and is trolling the fans like when does the tv time line. 😂
The more fans hate on him still wrestling the more he doubles down and it's obvious he doesn't care about the fans opinions at this point.
Also AEW in its current state is a far cry from what it was 5 years ago...saying aew is standing firmly on its own is hilariously since they can't sell out buildings, get good tv numbers etc. The booking is awful and I'd argue Jerichos learning tree stuff is one of the good spots hell the merch quickly went to number 1 shortly after he started the gimmick so do people really dislike it that much? What are these marks doing? "Hate" buying the learning tree shirts? 😂😂😂
NJPW Pain Maker Jericho was cool.
WCW,one foot on chest pin,"common baby" is my fave version.
And then I realised I don't give a fuck about some else's legacy.
He lived long enough to be a villain
So you're saying, he's old?
Whooooaaaaa
I have no issues with Jericho still wrestling, I still find his stuff entertaining. The hate boner people have for Jericho is crazy, seeing people leave the stands kinda sours me more on wrestling fans more than anything. Like sure you hate watching Jericho but what about the other guy he's in the ring with? You hate them too?
Ultimately though if the guy wants to keep wrestling he should keep wrestling, when you're so used to a lifestyle, it can be difficult getting out of it and will leave you with regrets, Tony is willing to book matches for him so why not?
This is a great way to look at it. Yes, I'm not a big fan of Jericho right now but I do not hate him and I would never not support the wrestlers around him. I love Big Bill, Shibata and Hook so all of the stuff surrounding them was bearable for me. And I agree with you, I understand leaving wrestling can be hard for these guys and I am super sympathetic towards that.
The wrestling business is mostly about money, but Jericho truly sold his soul for the next paycheck. He didn't care about how he'd look to his fans, all he cared about was money.

I think the problem was the poor handling of the allegations. It also showed his true colours in that situation. Jericho benefitted massively when the world had no idea of private life. It made his character stronger and Alive.
look am not disagreeing with you but all this wouldn't matter if he handled the situation better fans will always have a soft spot for old wrestlers regardless of how slow paced they are look minoru Suzuki or Tanahashi its only a small minority that don't see the appeal.
Also Jericho always put people over in almost every program till he got to Aew something changed to a point where even beating Jericho does nothing for anyone. Also the booking doesn't help him at all. If he was booked like Lesnar it would have been better.
Loved rhe video and i have subbed
Thank you! And yeah I agree, I just didn’t really want to talk about the allegations for two reasons. 1. We don’t really know what happened. 2. I just wanted to keep it to his in ring work.
I think michaels having a shaved head helps him alot.
2 different people, easy to seperate
Hes got the vince stomach (roids). Its kidna sad.
He should have gone away for a little. If he disappeared during that time from after Worlds End to the build to All In, he would be beloved right now. If I see you on tv constantly and you produce MID, I'm gonna be like "Yo, fuck this mfer". It's over for him.
I completely agree. He’s been on TV almost every week for like 3 years.
The more i learn about Jericho as a person, the less i like him. Great wrestler, though.
I don’t watch those Saudi shows so their legacies are still good for me
A lot of the comparisons made here are kinda unfair. Like yea he won the Ring of Honor title and he’s main eventing Ring of Honor, but that brand needs somebody like him for the exposure, for the TV deal, and when he drops the title to somebody younger and coming into their prime, it’ll be a bigger deal than beating Mark Briscoe.
On AEW, he’s not in anything like the position of Goldberg who was squashing new stars and holding the world title, and he’s not at the stage of Shawn Michaels who absolutely couldn’t go anymore. He’s doing decent matches and putting people over.
I do agree that he’s past his best and needs a break. The Learning Tree is not terrible but it’s not cool, it’s nowhere near as cool as Inner Circle was. But I think the talk of him needing to retire are a bit premature. He’s got value still, but I think he needs to transition to more of a manager who wrestles sometimes.
Wait till Jericho retires everyone going to say I took it for granted and didn’t appreciate his work.
Is that a bad thing?
Celtics Shaq is a big meme
Tbh in my opinion it's more are and the aew audience that hates him lol I like him the few times I have seen him in aew but I love him
Painmaker . Said no one ever.
There are a myriad of examples of legends whose middling end careers don't overshadow their peaks. Hogan's Mr America gimmick is rarely brought up in conversation with his tenure prior to that.
It's not that the learning tree stuff will be remembered well, but it just might not really be remembered at all as time goes on.
That's a good point. I guess it feels that way because we are currently living it and it honestly feels like it's been going on for years lol.
Jericho has definitely fallen off but his downfall is being overblown imo. Granted he does suck right now but its not legacy destroying.. yet
I'll have to disagree that pro wrestling is unique in regards to people holding it against you if you're washed in your late career. For the NBA, former MVPs Westbrook and Harden regularly catch shit even tho they're both rotation players.
Also if we're gonna use wrestling to compare, I don't think anyone uses Manami Toyota's late career against her versus her peak in the 90s
Y2j forever.
All wrestlers should retire at 50 , I mean all sports retire 35-40.
Honestly the learning tree is not that bad, Jericho still has a place at aew, it's just not the place he used to have, he should be in every ppv especially doing singles matches, and he should show up on Collision from time to time instead of being on dynamite.
He’s Still Cool
List of Jericho should have been his last run
Chris Jericho is a shell of himself. He was great in the past but now he is just an overbearing ego maniac who fails to put anyone over and just needs to retire from the ring and stop appearing on tv every week.
As bad as the Jericho learning tree arc might be, is it really much worse than the Don Callis family, the pinnacle, or anything else on the show?
I think Jericho is getting flack because of two reasons, one is we expect him to be much better than what he's doing right now and he's just stagnant. But the other reason is his politics, people want him gone because he's a republican.
But he's far and away not even as bad as some of the other stuff. I mean Christian and Killswitch have been in the same storyline with each other for what feels like three years at this rate. Genuinely it's the fault of the show itself and the way most stories go nowehere outside of the main event matches.
@@Thainofmordor Those are some good points but it’s a hard disagree on the Don Callis family. Takeshita and Fletcher are two of my favorite wrestlers and I like Don. He’s pretty funny when he does commentary.
