    While I've had a couple of guitars for years, I've recently bought a Grote Thin Line Tele, a Grote 335 copy, an IYV Les Paul copy and an Indio Strat copy. After years of playing rock, I've really enjoyed trying to play Blues. My newest adventure is learning how to properly set them up. It's an entire world of rabbit holes and I'm thoroughly enjoying every bit of it. I had no idea how well these affordable guitars can play with a bit of love and care. I'm looking at the Grote SG copy as my next little project. Thanks for the content and sharing your knowledge.

    Fun vid to watch, Jimmy. Nice job on the presentation, as always. I'm like you - I just love messing around with them sometimes, & getting them set up just the way I like em.' I don't usually do much... except for the occasional guitar that I like the looks of... but that comes in as not super playable, or a mess. Then I go at it some. Anyway... cool guitar, and great playing. Man - I love lower-priced guitars, and I love semi-hollows.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting! Appreciate your stopping in. As far as the Tele goes, normal setup is a 3 way with neck/bridge pups in parallel with the bridge plate acting as the string ground and the pups have a simple 2 wire (hot ground). To utilize the 4 way switch, and get the two pups to act in series, you would need to add the additional 3rd wire to the neck. Hope that helps a bit…as I recall, a number of different sites offer solutions for the Tele 4 way mod…Lollar comes to mind. 👍

    So far, it's 9s for me for comfort. ANything thinner gives me that paper cut feeling, especially on the high "e." Love these long and detailed looks at taking the time to set up the guitar properly. I'm on the lookout for a lefty semihollow. Here in Canada, it's a sea of "we don't deliver there" or "pay customs an arm and a leg for a guitar like a Harley Benton HB35+." Been hoping for one on the used market, but they gouge because of the lack of available lefty guitars. Still, the search goes on!

    Question for you, Rev: I just got the Indio Boardwalk in the sunburst, which has black colored pick-ups and tailgear. How do you adjust the bridge, to adjust string height? It has the two top screws, but no thumbwheels. I tried turning the screws but they are just about immoveable! I don't want to break anything if there's some secret. Can you help?

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  2 года назад +1

      Hi unklewink…thanks for watching and commenting. To adjust the height of the ToM bridge, you should loosen the string tension then adjust the two top screws to lower/raise the bridge. This allows the release of tension across the bridge and makes turning those two screws easier without stripping them. Get the height right, and bring your string tension back up. Repeat as necessary…hope that helps! Appreciate your stopping in to the channel and congrats on your new Boardwalk! 🎸👍

    You can make string bending easier by raising the stop tailpiece to reduce the string angle between it and the bridge. Decreasing the angle can even make a set of 10s bendable in most cases because it lessens the tension. Just be sure to put a piece of cloth between your screwdriver and the tailpiece bolt heads so they don't get damaged.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  3 года назад

      Hey…thanks for watching and commenting! I can bend 10’s (use to use them a lot before switching to 9’s) but the factory strings on this certainly didn’t feel like any D’Addario 10’s that I have ever played, thus my suspicion that they were not “real” D’Addario strings. They felt quite lifeless, even more so then most junk factory strings….😎

At the 31’06 point I kicked in a little patch set up via my HoTone Ampero…it’s a simple analog delay, set with a bit of a spread, about 20% in the mix…a touch of analog “hall” reverb at about 4 o’clock, then just a bit of compression and the Twiggy Blues overdrive pedal via my SoniCake Twiggy Blues sonic bar pedal. Then it’s just a matter of switching between pups, and rolling back vol/tone to taste….I was just trying to see how the new strings sounded in different configurations, checking for tones and possibly dead spots, etc…
