Ten days after this was released (Dec 15, 1959) I got my first record player that could play both 45 RPM records and 33 1/3 RPM record albums for Christmas. I'm a little younger than you, I was 10, but I already had Elvis' first 3 albums. Now I didn't have to ask for permission to play my albums on Mom's phonograph :) I bought this single too. I think it was probably in late February of 1960 (it took about five or six trips to the store to earn enough money to buy a single). I know it didn't hit the charts until the 2nd week of January at #76, then around the third week it jumped from#61 to #23. By February 22 it peaked at #7. It ended up being on the charts for 15 weeks. And in the last week it was on the charts, Cathy's Clown began it's chart climbing :) Thanks for stirring up these memories!
The Everly Brothers were epic. Best harmonizing I've ever heard. In the photo, Don is on the right. He always sang the melody. Phil, on the left, sang the harmony. Don also sings the solo part on this, as he did on all their songs.
One of the most beautiful songs ever, one of the greatest duos ever! Many great songs. When will I be Loved(Phil wrote it), Cathys Clown, Till I Kissed Ya, Walk Right In and more. Sadly both passed one in 2014, other a few months ago.
Some of the best music ever. My older brothers and sister saw these guys when they toured back in the day. Hence, I got to hear a LOT of their music. God, they were so good.
These fella's were one of the influences of the Beatles, Paul and John fashioned some of their early harmony work on these brothers. Great. Another era, yes, but still sweet.
The Everly Brothers had such a big impact on my youth..even then I imagined love to be like this…harmony for a duet second to none..Simon and Garfunkel is a close 2nd
Nice one Angela. One of this legendary duo's best, of which there were many . Try my personal favourite 'Devoted to You'. These recordings sound as fresh as the day they were made. So, it makes you feel like slow dancing in the nude. STOP IT!
It’s always been one of my favorite “standards”…it’s been covered by a ton of singers…because it’s such a beautiful song…my favorite version aside from this one, is Martina McBride’s.
Most singers get worse as they get older. Not so The Everlys. Their 1983 reunion concert at the Albert Hall after they hadn't sung together or even spoken to each other for the previous ten years, is absolutely astonishing. I have just watched it again. Their voices are even more powerful and the harmonies are spot on. Pick any song from that concert and prepare to be amazed.
Dancing? YES! My first dance at my grade VI "get-to-know-you" dance. Why this song? It was danceable and it was short (in case one screwed up, the embarrassment would be shorter). Peace from Canada.
It doesn't look like you've reacted to them before. This is a pretty song, but they have so many more lively ones (with just as great harmony)! Someone mentioned "Wake up Little Susie", and also, "Cathy's Clown", and the more mellow "All I have to do is Dream".
2:26 sounds a bit like the verse sections from the Jackson 5's - I'll Be There. Although, this song obviously predates that by several decades. Still, I wonder if the J5 song verses were inspired by this.
The EB's influenced so many others, none more than Simon and Garfunkel. The Beatles cite them, as do so many others. Thanks for this reminder of where so much great music comes from.
The Everly Brothers set the standard for rock and roll harmony that lasts until today.
So true
I was a teenager when this song was released in 1959. Had it on a 45 rpm single & played it over & over.

The Everly Brothers are legendary.
The live performance from their 1983 reunion is a masterpiece. This is amazing but the live version makes you cry.
@rickpaul4216: True!! The live reunion version of “Let It Be Me” was perfection. I think even they knew they had nailed that song.
My Mom and I used to put this on and dance to this. The live version is at a whole other level.

Family harmonies are so resonant! They influenced so many artists! A fun one is “Wake up little Susie!” Thx Angela!
One of the early icons of Rock n' Roll, their harmonies were beautiful and their hits were huge. These two brothers were fantastic!!
You are right. Their harmonies are perfect. A lot of good songs from them.
Some of the best music ever. My older brothers and sister saw these guys when they toured back in the day. Hence, I got to hear a LOT of their music. God, they were so good.
The greatest vocal duo in pop history. Check out all their big hits .
No one ever did two part harmony like the Everly Brothers. Check out their live stuff.
I agree. I like the live stuff the best too. They could really sing.
Definitely their concert were they performaned Let it be Me maybe in 83 was a prime example

Simon and Garfunkel credit the Everly Brothers for teaching them to harmonize.
The Everly Brothers (real brothers) had a ton of top hits in the late 1950s and early 60s. Hope you do more of them.
My mom and pop had every of of these vinyl records. Back when class was the norm and you had to have natural talent to be on the radio.
Beautiful Harmony. Thanks for sharing.
I remember Phil Everly saying this was their favourite song.
They were the inspiration for Simon and Garfunkel harmony. When Simon & Garfunkel were 11 years old, they would practice to the Everly Brothers.
i'm sure even angels are touched by this song.
We all want to be loved and to love..
Absolutely love this song my husband and my song

Magnificent.
MY MOTHER LOVED THIS SONG
It’s always been one of my favorite “standards”…it’s been covered by a ton of singers…because it’s such a beautiful song…my favorite version aside from this one, is Martina McBride’s.
They did a live version in the 80s reunion that was much better. Amazing version
They were both Marines. They joined during the draft to keep from going into the Army.
they were pretty awesome
Watch the live version 👍
Jerry Butler did the cover to this song, you should listen to that version. Its awesome.
Huge fan of theirs. Betty Everett and Jerry Butler did a great version of this also. Gorgeous song!!!
I recommend you check out the Jerry Butler/Betty Everett version. Also beautiful!
I like what you are doing

Watch a live clip. & Listen to Elvis's "70"👍
The version of "LET IT BE ME" from their reunion concert is far better.
Glen Campbell did a great duet of this with Bobbie Gentry.
Dancing? YES! My first dance at my grade VI "get-to-know-you" dance. Why this song? It was danceable and it was short (in case one screwed up, the embarrassment would be shorter). Peace from Canada.
Jerry Butler & Betty Everette -Let it be me
Dream was their biggest hit.
❤
The live version from the reunion concert in London is much better version.
It doesn't look like you've reacted to them before. This is a pretty song, but they have so many more lively ones (with just as great harmony)! Someone mentioned "Wake up Little Susie", and also, "Cathy's Clown", and the more mellow "All I have to do is Dream".
Big influence on the Beatles' harmony.
Make out song was what it was.

Don. Beatles attributed their harmony to them side note Axl rose dated Erin Everly dons daughter for 4 years.
Live or Video 50s threw 80s 😊
Try: Jeff Carson “Real Life”…he just died over the weekend 😢
you should do a reaction to the carpenters Hideaway, its a very good song.
Jerry Butler and Betty Everett have a great version of this song.
Can I say was in lob so don't cry
Check out Elvis' version of this song...
Live version is better!
Listen to Elvis's version 👍
Eh, she don't get it.
Elvis version is good but Willies is tops.
I don’t think this is the original.
You don't love it??!! There's something wrong with you. 😊😊😊😊
this girl has no clue what a good song is
Willie Nelson version is better, in my opinion. But Everly Brothers are great.
