I have to say Chris, this is the most instructive and constructive video I've watched in a long, long time!! I have to admit, it did take me about 115 minutes more than the 5 mins advertised, but thats down to my stupidity!! Thanks to you, I now have a great website to show off my images, I'm really over the moon. Thanks again Chris for a brilliant video.
Hi Chris, thanks for a great video - short and to the point! Did you ever create the follow-up one that you refer to? I can't find it anywhere, but I'd love to see it. Thanks!
Thank you, Chris, for a brilliant tutorial. I knew nothing about creating a website using Adobe. With the help of your tutorial, I've succeeded in creating one. A BIG thank you.
Come back to this for reference. Squarespace is a little too expensive for what I need so I'm going to follow this video and make a simple portfolio this evening! - Cheers Chris!!
This a nice addition to the Adobe subscription I didn’t know was there, thanks for that Chris, I’ll have a give it a go and my favourite images out there for the world to see without being mutilated by Facebook compression . I actually discovered last month that my wife gets full access to the entire Adobe suite through her work (a large UK university) which has enabled me to cancel my sub and save a few quid a month! Hope lockdown mk2 is treating you well, nearly there now. Stay safe!
Fantastic video! Is there going to be a part 2? I've made a website and got it up and running... But now I'm simply going to steal... eeerh... Be inspired by your ultrafast build:)

Excellent video Chris - thank you so much for posting! I really enjoyed learning all this - I subscribe to the Adobe photography package so will be able to access Adobe Portfolio. Really looking forward to having a go! Much appreciated - thank you Chris!
It's something I've always thought wouldn't be possible for me, but your video has definitely give me some inspiration, and I will definitely give it a try Chris.
I think that is definitely the case Nigel. Personally, I use Lightroom Classic, Spark and Portfolio. I rarely use Photoshop. Never touched Lightroom or Lightroom Mobile.
Thanks Chris that was really helpful. I do have a website but because I only have it for me and to share with family and friends , it is a bit over the top for my needs especially as there is an annual charge. I do subscribe to Adobe so I will give it a go. Take care.
I am using LightRoom Classic. I have figured out how to make a photo collection. However, I cannot see how to sync that with the Adobe cloud storage. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Brilliant! thanks Chris, well explained and so simple.... going to have a go this afternoon. Just one additional thought to add. As photographers we're exposed to theft of our images. Yes, you can link to other sites. If I were to give up my WordPress site I would continue to sell my images via Ko-fi. What do you mean by 'custom url'?
@@ChrisSalePhoto by custom url I mean having for example 'website.com' instead of 'website.myportfolio.com'. From what I've read I should be able to go into my account with the company I have my domain with and change the DNS settings
Excellent video Chris, even though I already use portfolio as my website platform and I’ve linked it to my domain, I saw a couple of things that I can use to improve. Good job.
Hi Chris.. thanks for the tutorial, Just a question, how can i create some album inside the Page? Example.. i would like to have on "Work" Page .. two album , Family and Wedding then i want upload different pictures inside the album.. Is It possible?
I had already built my own Adobe myportfolio website but the help I really need is in SEO. I'm not expecting a high ranking but it would be helpful if Google would at least find the website. In particular what are meta tags and how do I write them? Most of what I've found on the web and RUclips on this subject just goes over my head. I know it's not directly a photography topic but if you should find yourself with some free time on your hands (too much to ask?) can you explain this in simple terms for the hard of understanding such as me. Many thanks.
I think you a right there Adrian. But I very much doubt SquareSpace would ever be interested in a pokey little channel like mine. Adobe on the other hand have been super supportive of my channel recently.
Thank you Chris! I've had a subscription based website for several years, which costs me now quite a bit more than my Adobe Photographers subscription. So I've been thinking about switching to Adobe Portfolio, and letting go of my zenfolio site. I like the way the zenfolio site looks, but it's more than I need now. You mention at the end of this video, that you plan to do a follow-up to this one to demonstrate ways to give your Portfolio website more professional punch. If it is up, couldn't you post me to it, and if not, are you still planning on doing an update? Count me as interested!
Hi Chris, I set up a portfolio website via my adobe subscription and I found it extremely difficult to set up and alter (I am very poorly skilled in IT though) when i finish watching your vlog I will revisit to see if I manage better, thanks Derek
Really Derek? That does surprise me. I found it so easy. I guess it helps having 20 years of experience in IT! :) Let me know how you get on second time around. There is an article on my website that you might find useful... chrissale.co.uk/wp/create-a-photo-website-with-adobe-portfolio/
Thanks for your clear and concise explanation.Chris, but like David, I have spent half an afternoon trying to make the page, and I admit it was worth it. One question, how do I make more collections of photos, i.e. different albums. I would be very grateful if you could answer me. Signed, an clumsy follower :)
Excellent video, well described. Thanks Chris. Oh, do Adobe charge for hosting the website or is that part of the subscription - I have the same photography subscription.
Hello Chris, I've just watched at the video, I am working right now on my website with adobe portfolio but how can I make sure that the images won't be stolen or copied? Also can I put information on the image for google +? thank you for your reply; Very interesting video
Thank you so much for this information. Your step by step instructions guided me through the process this morning. I was thrilled it didn't take me all day. I do have a question....is there some way to add text to the photos in the portfolio?
Unfortunately I don't think there is. If you want to add text to photos have a look at Adobe Spark. I use it to create the thumbnails for these videos.
A very helpful and well constructed video, so much so that I have just set up my Adobe Portfolio website. Very happy with the result so thanks for your help Chris. One observation - Google draws a blank when you search for it, probably a limitation of the product given it is basic and I am not paying much for it?
Tnx Chris didn’t know this ever existed. Looking up for the follow up. Does it mean that if you stop your subscription the website disappears and does Adobe lay any claims over the photos posted there?
Hi Dimitris - to answer your questions, yes you loose your site if you stop your subscription, but I believe Adobe just stop traffic to it, it isn't physically deleted. I don't believe Adobe had any rights to your photos if you add them to your website. I don't know for sure but I will ask them.
Hello Chris, thanks for the information, it's something I have been thinking about to showcase photographs. As it is a subscription, how cost effective is it? As lockdown continues stay safe 😷
Hi Malcolm - It currently costs me about £11 per month to host chrissale.co.uk. A photography plan with Adobe costs £10 per month. For that you get Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, Lightroom Mobile, Photoshop, Adobe Spark and Adobe Portfolio. I think that is a pretty good deal.
Thank you for this tutorial Chris 👍 I look forward to the follow up. How would you rate the benefit and potential business value of such a neat simple website compared to your established site? I'm thinking particularly if we wanted to promote sales of photographs, would it be sufficient? Thanks again Chris.
Hi Stephen - I think that Adobe Portfolio has the potential to replace my WordPress site. The 2 areas that it doesn't cover is blogging and eCommerce. However, we do have other options for both of those these days. For example I now sell prints via my Ko-fi page.
Wow, that is very interesting, I never knew this was in my photography subscription from Adobe! This website is completely free (except for of course paying for the monthly subscription)?
Hi Elly - yes, absolutely! Adobe will host 5 portfolio sites on their severs for you as part of you Creative Cloud subscription (photography plan). If you do go ahead and build one I would love to see it.
I actually went to college back in the mid-late 90's to learn how to build web pages, and did build quite a good one for a friend with a b and b, have not got a clue what I learned back then though, just taken me an hour to build a home page, as an exercise in keeping myself busy a bit longer it works well, I suppose sizing the images for the web in photoshop would be better perhaps than just copying straight in from LR ?, you do realise you have now left yourself open to all sorts of how do I do this, dont you. lol
Hi Kelvin, didbyou build the homepage with Adobe Portfolio? To answer your question if you share a Lighroom album via the cloud all of the resizing is taken care of automatically. When adding individual images (as I did on my home and about pages) it is probably wise to resize them. I output most of my images in 1920x1080 directly from Lightroom.
Thank you Chris. I missed your webinar on building websites, I wish I had been able to participate in that. I've thought about starting a website in the past but just couldn't convince myself that my photos were good enough to bother having my own website. If I built a simple website like the one you just demonstrated, how difficult would it be to take down if I decided I no longer wanted one?
Hi Peter, to answer your question it is very simple to 'unpublish' your Adobe Portfolio website. Just a click of a button I believe. I think we all have concerns about our work being good enough to share. But I don't think you'll ever know unless you try.
Interesting information Chris... Unfortunately, or fortunately, I’m not a user of Photoshop nor Lightroom. I had a copy of each back in the days of old when you could purchase your software once and your done rather than paying for it month after month use it or not as Adobe thinks it should be... I’ve never had a website, perhaps someday I will but it won’t be via Adobe as I just haven’t been able to come to terms with continually paying for your software.
Hi Hugh - personally I prefer the subscription model. A photography subscription costs me just £120 a year. How much was CS6 when it was launched? £600? That's that annual price of their full suite of products. Seems like a bargin to me in comparison!
Although I had to stroll thru your video to get the tutorial (after almost 5min of nothing), I appreciate you sharing how to create a portfolio. I finally created one, from your directions.
Useful video but a little bit more detail on how you added the image to the about page and opened the text box to type your about info in would be useful , I appreciate you were against the clock. But adobe portfolio isn't very clear to use for a none IT expert like me , which is why I suspect people don't use it
Worked it out now after watching this video several times I now have a functioning website and now looking forward to the follow up video , thanks Rich
Hi Chris. I have been trying to build a simple Portfolio website after following your instructions. No joy, unfortunately you sometimes use words which I am unfamiliar with. How about an 'idiots guide' to build a portfolio for people in their 80's. Regards from another Chris.
I don't think we want to be too committed to Adobe. As Dimitris just said having Adobe control your online presence ties you to their subscription. That's the problem. It takes away one's independence and control over their own website. At least that's the perception. It may be a great website, but it's not ours. I love Adobe and really want to be an Adobe fanboy but I haven't updated from PS 6 because of the subscription model. And it's not even that. It's the fact that it's REAL SIMPLE to join but try cancelling your subscription and you have to ring a call centre overseas and wait in line 3 days (exaggeration) before you get an answer. Are you kidding? That's my issue. I may be wrong about all this now so apologies if so but at the start cancelling a subscription was made impossible.
Hi Tony - My own personal experience with Adobe subscriptions has been very good. I used to have a Premiere Rush subscription but I decided to cancel it. It could not have been easier. You are right to a certain extent about Adobe having control of your online presence but everyone has full access to the underlying HTML of their site so it would be easy to get a copy. That way you'd could keep hold of all of your content.
I wish you hadn't tried to do it in 5 min, I'd rather a little more time and explanation. I'm finding these website makers don't allow me to show my photos as I took them, they keep cropping them to fit the mold. I should be able to adjust that myself, if I want.
What a pity you wanted to do it in 5 minutes... I would have preferred a little slower demonstration and going step by step... maybe Adobe has changed things meanwhile, but I did not find certain steps. Have to look further.. thanks anyway !
Hi Hilary, before I became a photographer I had a 20 year career in IT so I have a little experience in this area. Unfortunately there is practically nothing that can be done to stop people from stealing your images. The same goes for platforms such as Instagram and Flickr I am afraid.

Thank you.
Found the video today, sadly your website doesn’t exist anymore?
Thanks man now I look more professional lol
Something to keep in mind: please everyone, don't make an intro section where you have to click enter.
the myprotfolio extension is annoying tho
Is it free Chris ?
Its not free anymore
I wish you hadn't tried to do it in 5 min, I'd rather a little more time and explanation. I'm finding these website makers don't allow me to show my photos as I took them, they keep cropping them to fit the mold. I should be able to adjust that myself, if I want.
What a pity you wanted to do it in 5 minutes... I would have preferred a little slower demonstration and going step by step... maybe Adobe has changed things meanwhile, but I did not find certain steps. Have to look further.. thanks anyway !
you never made the follow up video *sob*
Brilliant, you're wasted on this photography game. Ever thought of a career in IT?
IT is a young man's game David. I am too long in the tooth these days. :)
I’ll set a week aside
I reckon you could have it cracking in a weekend Tim!
Please turn off the music, otherwise a very good tutorial.
that " myportfolio " kills the whole thing tbh
a big problem for me with this website is anyone can download your photos a with a single click - I just nicked one of your photos - only kidding :-)
@@SteveMellorPhotography As someone who has had _dozens_ of photos nicked over the years, props to you for the 3rd point!
Hi Hilary, before I became a photographer I had a 20 year career in IT so I have a little experience in this area. Unfortunately there is practically nothing that can be done to stop people from stealing your images. The same goes for platforms such as Instagram and Flickr I am afraid.
