    The shopping cart quarters are actually one of my favorite parts about Aldi. As a kid I would return people’s carts for them at places like this to make a few coins for the candy machine. As an adult, I often give my cart away, to another little kid wanting candy quarters, to a mom with hands too full of kids and things to fetch a quarter, to the pensioner who is on a fixed budget, to someone who smiled and said hello. The quarter doesn’t mean much to me but spreading a small kindness and even receiving that kindness means so much. It’s like a small moment of goodness in my day. For me, the carts are sort of a symbol for hope.

      I have done the same for some pocket money when I had nothing to my name.
      The best time to make people happy and relieved is to be there during torrential rain storms and when terrible snow is piling high.
      A few bucks in quarters goes a long way at Aldi's when you haven't eaten in days.

      I am delivering a warm smile, lots of goodwill and kindness and performing a good deed for others.
      It's a win-win situation that gave others a smile and positive feeling and relief they wouldn't have had otherwise.
      They were always so grateful, too.
      ❤❤❤

    I don't mind bagging my groceries because I can do it my way. I put all of the cold items together, I can make sure that produce doesn't get damaged, and if you place a loaf of bread on top of a dozen eggs, the bread doesn't get mashed. My mom has banker boxes in the back of her car so she can sort her groceries as she boxes them. It also makes it easier to carry them into the house. Thank you for the great information!

    About the cashier being allowed to change the price at 5:25 : That's true. About 3 years ago I bought a small turkey breast at ALDI. The price tag and bar was smeared when I got to the register. It was $8-something. Since the cashier couldn't get it to scan, he left me have it for only $1. 😃

      @@FreebieLady Recently, quantities of organic Pink Lady apples were low, and just a quick inspection of the remaining bags exposed, at the least, one rotting, decaying apple in every bag. I pointed this out to a Store Associate, asking whether a discount could be given. She agreed with my assessment, but quietly replied, "Um, no, sorry. I (emphasizing "I") cannot."
      Then she picks up a bag in each hand, walks directly to the nearest trashcan, and disposes of them. Dismayed at the obvious waste, but really wanting ORGANIC apples, I selected a bag from the few remaining, though it, too, contained a decaying apple. (This Aldi associate apparently didn't want to, or didn't know, she could approach a Manager to liaison my request.) As I neared check-out, I spotted an Aldi staffer with a "manager look"......After noting the compromised quality he responded, "I can knock off a dollar -- that's the best I can do."
      "Okay...Thanks," I replied. And then he set in repetitively insisting, "But I can't do that again," repeating that protest two more times!! I felt like plopping the apples down in front of him and saying, "Well, I wouldn't want to put your job at risk for something so major....I can live without 'em."
      So, in this instance, not so generous with discounts. And it was so apparent those apples were deteriorated!!

    • @kaycee1196
      @kaycee1196 2 года назад +7

      Is the register capable of "discounting" items? Yes. Are we allowed to? No. If there is an issue with quality we can not discount the item. It goes to donations. Two reasons for this. One, Aldi emphasis on quality and does not want to be viewed as a discount store. Two, it prevents people and employees from purposely damaging items.
      They can only price override when an item is ringing up a different price. If a meat product does not have a label it is supposed to get donated, however if one gets through the cracks, employee needs to get a code for it and weigh it. Everything at register is recorded and anything more then 50% off will get flagged. Employees are not allowed to do this and will get in trouble for it. Please do not do this.

      Hummm... Some ALDI employees have posted here, saying that this is wrong. I must have had a cashier who went "rogue" that day. My story is 100% true. It must have been my lucky day. BTW, the cashier who made this price change for me has been a longtime employee of the store. He still works there today and I see him almost every week. But that was the only time he ever changed a price for me. About 99.9999% of the time everything at ALDI scans perfectly and I pay full price. --But I'll never forget the day I got a turkey breast for only $1.

  • @trublgrl
    @trublgrl 2 года назад +65

    While making you return carts and not having bags and other little things does affect the bottom line, it's important to realize that Aldi's main strategy for giving us low prices is that they limit choice in favor of more types of products at lower prices. You will not find four brands of potato bread or two different brands of baked beans at Aldi. There will generally be one choice of each type, and the majority will be one of Aldi's branded imprints. The products are not all labeled "Aldi," though, but they are house brands. I recommend taking a chance on any product type you normally buy to see if you like the Aldi version. The quality of their prepackaged goods, dairy, breads, and canned goods are all excellent!

      I'm a big patriotic person. 95% of Aldi Finds are from China. If a country of origin isn't noted, I won't buy it. Careful on the garlic and ginger in the cute little net bags. Those are from China and are grown and fertilized with waste. Then bleached to make them look pretty.

    I absolutely agree!!! I used to HATE Aldi’s because produce is a big chunk of our grocery budget. Problem was that in a day or 2 (if even that long) the produce would go bad. I’ve recently been “retrying out” Aldi’s & was impressed this go around. Still slowly trying a lot of their products out, but maybe now I’ll be able to shop there & be satisfied with their produce. Not sure about trying out their meat items…. What does everyone say about those?

Tomorrow! My daughter has the day off and we're going! While my grandson is at work because his hours coincide perfectly with their Sunday hours. I'm hoping the little ceramic cooking dishes will be there! In red. They are perfect for my new air fryer oven. We only have one car for 4 people working and college. I'm really excited. Target used to have a timer so they would have to rush through when they couldn't even say hello to people. It's nice to be timed. But to be frank with you sometimes a little human interaction is much appreciated. They scan fast. But if I thought that they were getting yelled at because they're not scanning fast enough, it does not make me happy. It makes me pissed off. It makes me feel like they think they are robots. Really and truly. So on that point I guess it's important that if you can get scanned in 14 seconds and it's $32 good for you. but I find it very disconcerting abd sad to the human soul that your whole life depends on making sure u scan fast. . You don't have to go slow in this world. But you can't make employees feel like they're flippin robots. Sorry but true...

      That doesn't mean they can't say hello after they scan you. They don't always have a customer before or after you show up. Once they are done swiping your stuff & you pay, they are no longer timed as they have nothing more to scan. My scanner was very helpful after I paid when I couldn't find an item. I came back inside and someone helped me. I asked about the item when I was paying & decided to put my stuff inside my car before looking some more.)

    hi! i’m an aldi employee. you’ve got a ton of things right! but there are a few things that you did get a little bit wrong.
    the register thing is definitely correct. we get tracked on speed, time in between customers.
    but what is incorrect is the “discount” thing. if anything is damaged, we take it off the shelves and donate it (we CANNOT sell it). the only time we can change a price is if there’s a markdown sticker. even then, our manager has to come in.

    • @kaycee1196
      @kaycee1196 2 года назад +1

      Second that. Aldi does not want to be looked at as a "discount store". We can not discount items. It should be removed from the floor and donated.

    • @NickKaplan

      Some managers may offer discounts for specific items for specific reasons, but it is on an individual basis based on the needs of the store and the individual customer. An ALDI associate has the ability to mark things down, but are only allowed to do a markdown if there is a sticker or of they realize there should have been a sticker for dating reasons. Another acceptable markdown is when an item rings at a different price than the shelf label suggests. Any other markdowns have to be approved by a manager.

Also many of the regular products do not contain gluten or other chemicals. I eat a mediterranean diet and they have a huge selection of organic veggies, fruits, etc at great prices! Read the labels! Their jams and jellies areoften produced in Belgium and are a fraction of regular stores imported products. I have a love/ hate relationship with the seasonal items but Look forward to the changes as well. It reminds me of shopping in Europe and you will meet shoppers from many countries at Aldi. The ONLY thing I would caution people about is to READ the labels, whether at ALDI, or anywhere other grocery store. Ground Bug flour (made from crickets, meal worms etc) has begun turning up in many bread products, frozen pizza dough, protein bars, puff cheesies etc, cookie mixes, as a cheap alternate source of flour. So just read your labels. Canada is doing it big time, and you really have to look to find it. And the European Union approved its use too. Good luck.
