For my first bike I got a 2016 dyna low rider no faring and the first few times on the highway 65 was scary, now I can comfortably do 80. It takes time to get used to the wind pressure
Still have my 2011 softail and love riding that bike still. I love my street glide that I have now as well. Had he started on a non fairing bike he would have adjusted easier probably. But he started on a Cadillac lol.
I couldn’t get rid of my fairing fast enough after buying my Ultra, and I traded it. Yeah, the winds beats me up at prolonged interstate speed, but it forced me to slow down and remember why I was on the bike in the first place. Nice ride.
The wind sucks. But it's a part of the ride. Official Mac, good looking bikes. I spent 25 years on fairing bikes. In the late 90s and early 2000s riding from Vegas to Sturgis on my old Dyna I was so happy to be on a bagger. Today I ride the RKS with the WindSplitter. I chose the RK to get away from all that silly tech on the newer bikes. The only tech I have and need is my speedo. I have HD lowers and modified wind deflection here and there and my King is perfect on the highway. Good luck. Good review.
I have an ultra limited and a road king. Long trips are on the ultra. Short rides by myself in the Texas Hill Country on the Road King. I have the same windshield on my RK. More for bugs than wind turbulence. Love them both.
went from a 04 Heritage, to a 2017 Road Glide, then got the 23 Road King Special. Bought a windshield, when I bought the bike. Got a clear one, but it works great. Agree with you on the wind.
Picked up my 23' RK special 2 weeks ago and jumped on the freeway and u aint lying ,i was taking punches to my chest lol, but ima keep jumping on the freeway and try to get used to it, i use to ride road glides and wanted a road king this time around. Good video
This is true! I have a Roadking Classic and without a windshield, I am limited to in town. Anytime I know I'm getting on the highway, the windshield goes back on.
Wow, a big fellow like you. You sound delicate. No windshield lets you enjoy the organic ride, I ride a 2020 Low Rider S. I respect different strokes for different folks.
My first bike was a kawasaki vulcan 900. Only transportation for a year. Rode from Houston to San Antonio every weekend when I was dating a woman there. No fairing or windshield. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The road king is the perfect bike to me. Bags for touring and the pure motorcycle experience. I would get a windshield for longer rides tho. Just for versatility
Simple solution my RKS brother. Get a neck gator and pull it over your face, wear goggles (7eye), ear plugs, and a 3/4 helmet. You could also use a full face helmet. Or…on long rides on the hwy…yes you may need a windshield if having difficulty holding on at 70+ for a long time. Seriously though, my first suggestion helps you cut through the wind and looks much better as well. Just give it some time to get used to everything, and remember….it’s not a car 😂
Look at Quadzilla, they make a batwing fairing that attaches the same way. With or without an inner fairing or get with a radio and speakers. Keep it light with just a plain inner fairing.
I don’t have a windshield on mine. I just hop on the 75. The gage say a 100, and I’m taken it there. Sometimes I wish I had a windshield. I do plan on getting one. Plus I just got my first bike in January for my 40th bday. Shouts out to my wife🤟🏽. A 2005 Road King Custom. It doesn’t have enough power for my taste though, 1450cc, but I’m definitely grateful for my bike. My next bike id love a Road Glide, or an Indian Challenger. I’m not a Harley guy, I just love motorcycles. But Indain is definitely my personal favorite. My bike needs a lot of work. Not the performance part. It’s just the outer appearance. It needs a good detailing, but I ride that bike with pride.
I agree with the windshield I don’t have one on my Honda Stateline yet . I’m going with a Memphis Shades batwing fairing. It is hard to ride without a windshield you have to hold on for dear life.😎God bless.
Yeah I think it’s a personal preference. I wear a full face helmet and 99% of time I have my windshield off. Only time my windshield is on is 36° and below. I love the wind.
@@officialmac valid I recently got me a Electra glide and I will note it is a huge difference but I’d say it’s probably because I was used to no fairings why not a big deal for me. Great looking bike none the less.
Iv been thinking for a few years now i want a Road King or an Indian Springfield. I love the feel of a bike without the fairing but man like you said a 100 miles or so and it loses its luster..
Ive thought about getting that shield but afraid it will be too short for over 6’ and cause buffeting. I tried some of the big traditional road king shields but now I run a 11” calsci mini shield. Keeps wind off the chest and really all I need for anything except interstate.
Yup once you have a fairing bike you will never wanna go back!!! Tried it and had trade it back in for a fairing bike or you have to have a windshield get the wide one too

How tall are you?? I got crazy buffeting with the stock windshield and upgraded to a 21” visor. A good leather vest really helps with the wind to the chest. Thinking about getting lowers to help with the wind draft from below
I still want me a RK. I love you bike my brother. I’m gonna get me one someday. Right now I have a 21 street glide special and want to get another bike.
Hey Mac. I ride a ‘19 Deluxe and love the look of no windshield. However, I got the detachable windshield for those long haul trips. One tip, to keep it easy to get the bracket in the rubber grommet is to put some silicone. Search Doc Harley Removable Windshield. This is where I got the tip. Ride safe!
I have had them all; Faired, un-faired, naked, half fairing, windshields, cruisers, touring bikes etc. and it all boils down to personal preference. The full on air on a RK, is better than the dirty air from faired bikes that buffet and beat. Pure air pushes you, but does not beat you. I ALWAYS wear a FFH and 95% of the time a riding jacket, and have a better ride on my RK at 70mph than I did on my RG or FLHUCI, ubefore I spent $100's of dollars on windshields and deflectors. Once I put my windshield on the RK, the buffeting goes up and dirty air is an issue. I have 3 bikes, and I prefer the RK in it's raw form.
@@officialmacYeah, but the Windsplitter sucks unless you’re 5’-6”. I am replacing mine with a KlockWerks Flare in 19.5” height so I have clean air at my helmet. The windsplitter looks cool but it’s pretty ineffective for someone who is 6’ tall.
Man I just got a XM receiver hooked up on my Road King . Right off the bat. Issues with the receiver, a signal hit and miss , and the receiver reads entering stand by mode . Then I turn the Commander touch receiver off thinking it would reset . Well it then would not turn back on . During the time of riding experiencing the issue, I also noticed less power under throttle. My bike does have a dynajet tune . So now I don’t know how that could be affected ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Go back to Japanese bikes, the whole point of a road king without a windshield is to ride under 70 miles an hour the feel the win the smell, the leaves the trees and chill. My question is when did you get your first Harley Davison?
To smell the leaves and tree’s you should just ride a bicycle because wind sand or stones don’t feel good on your face at 70mph no matter what bike your on bud!
Maybe it's just me, but if I want that much wind blocking, I'll drive the car. It would DEFINITELY need a windshield for long trips, absolutely. BUT you can take it off around town. Like having the best of both worlds. I just wouldn't want all the wind blocked while I'm on a bike. That's the whole point of riding. IMO.
Okay, one more comment, I have a 2017 Heritage Softtail and took the windshield off. Deffinately need to have a windshield if your riding on a highway or anything over 40-45 mph. It just isn't enjoyable otherwise. I have a 2019 Road King Police Special and it has a windshield and is a Great motorcycle with the 114 engine. Good luck with the bike!
You definitely have to get the Wind Splitter windshield, the Memphis Shades Road Warrior fairing, or the Klock Werkz fairing (which is probably the best one) if you are hitting highway miles. None of those add too much weight from what I hear either.
I ride a 2020 Road King special, Been Cross Country 3 times, 600/700mi days, no windshields, no radio. If you need all that on your bike you might as well just drive a car

Man, to say the Road King Special is the worst riding bike is a serious crock of shit. You cannot compare a bike without a fairing to a bike with a huge one like the Road Glide. And to say a new rider needs a fairing is also absolutely ridiculous. My first Harley was a 2020 Low Rider S. I made a 2,800 mile round trip from Indiana to Sturgis and back - no windshield or fairing. After a year of the LRS, I test road a Street Glide, Road Glide, and a Road King Special. I have a RKS for a reason. Better handling than either Glide. Do I have a windsnield for it? Yep. Do I keep it on? Nope. Off and on. 22k miles later, this bike still shines brighter than any Glide.
I'm still rollin a 2001 fatboy. No windshield, no bags, no sissy bar, and no engine gaurd. Has a Danny Gray buttcrack solo seat. Still run a 3/4 helmet. I run the highway daily. 80mph most of the time with one hand on the handle bars. The whole point of a motorcycle is to be in nature. To see and feel everything. I've never understood riders trying to cut down the wind. If you honestly want to cut the wind down by 85%. You might as well just buy a convertible! Just sayin! Cheers!
For my first bike I got a 2016 dyna low rider no faring and the first few times on the highway 65 was scary, now I can comfortably do 80. It takes time to get used to the wind pressure

I've never understood riders trying to cut down the wind. If you honestly want to cut the wind down by 85%. You might as well just buy a convertible! Just sayin! Cheers!
Real Riders Only.
Road kings and heritage softails make for a sick cholo bike tho?? Lol
