- When a mother left her Surrey, B.C. condo for work in the morning, she never imagined that it would be the last time she would ever see her son. She returned to a building that was surrounded by yellow police tape, and it wasn’t long before word leaked out that six men had been slaughtered inside.
As Jules Knox reports, a well-placed surveillance team led officers to the suspects behind the largest gang-related mass murder in the province’s history, but several unexpected twists in this case soon jeopardized the search for justice.

I was one of Chris's friends. His best friend called me to ask if I heard from Chris he didn't show up to Basketball, I said no he should be with you playing basketball, we knew something wrong. Very well said. It is painful to watch the mother be in such pain. It is obvious that her and her son are very close. I hope they remain very close even in his passing. Books can outline the stages of grief, but it is different for everyone. The one thing that is always a positive is love shown to the victims family that loved him.

RCMP's incompetence isn't the only problem folks. The incompetence of soft on crime politicians and judges that put criminals back on the streets sooner than they should be (if at all) makes policing ineffective even when it's done properly.

By accident I found this channel and at random the first two episodes I’ve watched are this one and the Wolfpack case , both linked to each other . Sad to see such ineptitude on the part of the police and the justice system who fail the public and the relatives of the innocent victims time after time.
I had never heard of this channel and found it a few weeks ago... 100% it is now one of my top three crime channels.
I remember when this happened and looking at surrey from south van and it was so sad, i was chris's age and was in disbelief this happened......ill never forget this day...R.I.P. to the innocent victims....

Eileen Mohan is such a wonderful woman. My heart just breaks for her. Her son was a gorgeous, innocent young man who was just in the wrong place.
Eileen lives in my building, she is one of the most brave and gracious women I have ever met, my heart just breaks for her, losing her son in such a horrific way

It always amazes me how people can openly complain about the disruption of their every day lives when one unfortunate person becomes a victim of murder yet alone six. Shame on them.
I lived in Surrey when this happened and I was pregnant with my daughter. It was disturbing to say the least.

Person X is Dennis Karbovanec. He approached police and pled guilty in 2009 to three of the murders. He’s in prison out east.
The other three murders were committed by Matthew Johnston and Cody Haevischer.
The murders were ordered by Jamie Bacon and Michael Le although the initial plan was only to kill Corey Lal. Many of us remember this case vividly including the gang wars that dominated that time. Karbovanec’s decision to plead guilty and cooperate was a turning point in the case.
I’ve seen misinformation stated as fact in this comment section and it’s important that people avoid conjecture. It bears repeating that Chris Mohan and Ed Schellenberg were not involved in crime in any way whatsoever; they were innocent bystanders who lost their lives because the gangsters didn’t want to leave potential witnesses.
Additional notes -
Matthew Johnston died of cancer in prison in December 2022.
Cody Haevischer and Jamie Bacon are still incarcerated. Bacon had many unrelated charges over the years. Haevischer and his lawyer have been busy filing applications for an evidentiary hearing.
Michael Le was the leader of the Red Scorpions at that time. He agreed to plead guilty and cooperate; he testified against Johnston and Haevischer and in return received an immunity deal.
Sophon Sek who facilitated access to the murder suite was sentenced to a year in connection with this case. He died in Cambodia a few years ago.
As an aside, in 2008 Jamie Bacon ordered a hit on Karbovanec which was obviously unsuccessful. Bacon gave this direction because he questioned Karbovanec’s loyalty and thought he may be speaking with police which, as it turns out, he was.
This was just unbelievable, I think about this horrific killing a lot and my heart goes out to all the victim's families

I don't understand the "bailing out" system. It doesn't make sense!
There was hardly any info on this one. So many details completely left out. Its mainly watching the mom cry. No info on the gangs or who each of them was , why they did it. What was behind the plot, the reasons behind everything happening.

There was even undercover recordings caught on tape, of one of the guilty parties confession. But unfortunately, not every guilty person was charged. 2 men were convicted, but this case took more than 2 people to commit.

Not incompetent RCMP lol they arrested them already the guy even said they were out on bail till a court hearing its the Justice system releasing people with serious offences that the rcmp arrest over and over again the rcmp have had there failures but this is not one of them.
An irritating episode to watch. Didn't lay out the facts. Focused on the Mother's pain. Understandable but not the usual quality of crisp editing and story line.
This crime is horrific, I couldn't even survive a loss of a child, but please stop releasing balloons into the air, they do not go to heaven, they end up in our oceans and land, in animals stomachs, dolphins, whales, my condolences 🎉❤

There was a shooting in my building when I lived in Port Moody (2008) and I saw the shooter in the elevator prior but he just smiled when I made eye contact and got off 3 floors before me. I didn't think anything of it until the building was filled with police the next morning. I didn't remember his face, just his clothing. These poor men didn't need to die for these losers 😢

Jonathan Bacon - the oldest - was killed/gunned down in Kelowna in 2011.
Jarrod Bacon - the middle son - is alive and well outside of BC after serving time for cocaine trafficking.
Jamie - the youngest - is still incarcerated.
They have a sister who wants no connection to her parents and brothers. Smart woman.

It sets the tone for what a bizarre and frightening day it was that Friday in October 2007. Some of us remember.
You have to acknowledge it’s not often a plane flies into a condo tower; no one had answers on the spot as to why it happened. That was followed up the same day by the unprecedented discovery of six bodies in another condo tower.
These two very bizarre and very concerning events - both in highrises - occurred in different communities in the lower mainland, but people were glued to the news that night/weekend wondering if our cities had another tragedy on the way. It seems ridiculous now maybe but that was the sentiment at the time.

Doubt it the mainstream media had to sensor everything making the story impossible to make a part 2, but online there are Freelance people who follow and write everything they can about Gang Violence, in Alberta they wouldn't even name a gang or show a logo and still don't very often, because it gives Gangsters the Street Credit they Seek and possibly pop off and do more damage for the fame and other gangs the chance to retaliate, IF they don't know who hit em, but Alberta has a Stricter Court System on Gangs and often follow through with "Double Sentencing" or what's known as Gang Linked Crime or Organized Crime Engancement.

One was a freak plane accident in New Westminster, while the other happened in Surrey, a gangland style multiple mass murder.
My heart went out especially to the 2 innocent victims Christopher Mohan and Ed Schellenberg.
Poor Christopher was only a passerby, wrong place at wrong time, and got pulled in (literally) to the apartment unit. While Ed was an innocent gas fireplace repairman.
Nothing justifies their killing.
My heart really goes out to Eileen Mohan, Christopher's mother. It was horrible how the whole thing was handled in the beginning.
One of the convicted killers had died in prison, in 2022 from cancer.
As a Vancouver citizen, I remember this case vividly and the news coverage that began that Friday night in October 2007.

2005: Terror attack in London
Asking whether a plane crash into a building and a massmurder *in the same city on the same day* could be related isn't that farfetched!
And it's not like it stopped there and then: In 2016 + 2017 alone over 320 people were killed in terrorist attacks by Islamists in Europe and North America alone: all were terror attacks on civilian infrastructures.

Her son and the tradesmen were exiting the apartment at the same time the killers where entering the room across the way.. they were forced into the same room as the other four and executed. Don't spread your

It was stated **numerous times** that Chris Mohan and Ed Schellenberg had absolutely no connection to criminal lifestyles. Ed was servicing the building’s fireplaces that day. Chris had the misfortune to live across the hallway from where the murders took place and was leaving to play basketball when he was pulled into the suite and subdued. Both were killed to eliminate witnesses. This was covered thoroughly.
If you don’t believe the documentary or me then spend 2 minutes pulling a Google search. This is readily available information even if you’re not local.

Reporter said his “gang brother” not “brother.” Dennis Karbovanec is person X and he was extremely close to the Bacon family and the rest of the Red Scorpions at that time.
