This light is very pretty. The only thing I would change is to have it connect to the wood on the outside with the three metal tabs. In order to thoroughly clean the inside, you need to disassemble it. The dust is going to accumulate from the top.i like your meticulous work ethic. It makes for a perfect finished product the first time.
Glad you liked the video. The metal tabs are on the inside to give it a more finished look. If you were going to put them on the outside the wooden base would have to be much larger and would be out of proportion to the rest of the project. The plate in the top holding the battery pack can be removed if you want to get inside the tower to clean it. These are made to be used inside the home and shouldn't get very dirty over time. I appreciate your input, always open to different ways to make these projects. Regards, Bill Stone
hi, love this lamp, and the easy way you explain how to do stained glass, do you use cement after you have solderd every thing to stop it rattling, if not what size came do you use please
Hi John, Thanks for your kind words, so glad you enjoyed the video project. I don't glaze these small projects, they don't have to be waterproof, and they aren't subjected to a lot at banging around. The Lead Came I use on all of these video projects are RU-70 U Came and RH-9 H Came. They are made by Cascade Metals, and they have a great chart showing all the different sizes of Lead Came, check them out on the internet. I use that same Came on my larger projects and you can see some of them if you watch my video WHAT DO I DO WHEN NOT MAKING THESE RUclips VIDEOS. Back to the glazing of the projects, I don't glaze anything under 1 1/2 square feet unless it's going outside and needs to be waterproof or in an area where the project is going to exposed to a lot of jarring say like in a door. If you like you can glaze these projects, it will make them stronger. Again, thanks for your comment, and please feel free to ask me anything about these projects. Have a great day!! Regards, Bill Stone PS: I have also made several of these light towers that plug into the wall, instead of using the battery power lights. They sell then both plug in and battery operated. I get them from Amazon.
@@billstonesstainedglasscrea3310 I want to make a square lamp using 4 pieces of 8 inch x 6 inch pieces of glass, and trying the came method, but I have been told its not possible to seal the edges, I have made 3 other lamps all using small pieces of glass and agates, using the copper foil method, have you any suggestions please
Hi John, Not sure why someone would have told you that!! The Light Tower in this video has sealed edges about 24" long, and I've even made others that are as long as 30" or longer without any trouble. The U came I use is RH-70 U came and it has a crown face and a flat back, so it makes it easier to marry the edges together without open areas between the panels. They do make a H came that the back is completely round all the way and that one would be much harder to keep from not having open areas in between the panels. Check out the Video, Leaded Glass Solar Lantern Planter, fast forward to the 58 minute of the video and you will see how I keep these panels together without any open areas in them. Use a 60/40 solder and 700 degree tip in my soldering iron.
